Craig Smith reports on a morning to forget from the Swan Ground

BROMLEY GREEN 0 – 7 KENNINGTON

Our second game of this pre season saw us entertain Mush league side Kennington A. We met Kennington several weeks ago in a 6 a side tournament where they won every game so we knew that this would be a real challenge. It is somewhat disappointing to report that we didn’t really step up to that challenge today. Admittedly Kennington were a very strong outfit. Not only is it evident that they play in a division 3 leagues above the one we were in last year but they also came to the Swan Centre with a desire to win. Starting the game – Tony and I wanted us to continue in the vein of last week. Taking advantage of a physically bigger side by playing football – which we did so well against Betteshanger. A fine move down the right for the visitors saw them open the scoring within 5 minutes and from this point we dropped our heads. Kennington went into the half time break with a 3-0 lead. Despite this I feel it important to note the positives. We settled after 20 mins – holding Kennington out having already been 3 down and even began creating chances. Liam Wratten also saved bravely at the foot of their striker. The half time team talk was filled with the desire to show a true account of ourselves. It was evident that we were lacking complete effort and we went into the second half with hope of winning at least that. Kennington scored early on in the half – and once again heads dropped. Much like last week when we go behind there is almost an “oh well” mentality – when the real mentality should be “lets get this back”. 3 more goals followed including two screamers. Liam Wratten once again pulling off a wonderful save before the attempted header away from Reece Murrell was cruelly put into the roof of the net. The result isn’t what disappoints me – at the end of the day it is irrelevant – the disappointment lies within the mentality of some of the players out there today. We all know we are better than that – I want to install a resolve within our team which shows we can fight back from anything. My advice to the boys is this: Forget today – move on! Now we continue building for the new season – if at the turn of the year we are in a title race then this game will be a distant memory. Finally special praise to Dan Churchley today – who looked both lively and inventive throughout the game. Reece Murrell also showed what he can bring to the team. Unfortunately it looks like captain Joe Barton may miss the remainder of pre season with ankle trouble. We hope to get him back as soon as possible.

Squad: Liam, Jamie, Mike, Jack, Joe, Kryz, Dan, Martyn, George, Aaron, Kieran, Marcus, Matt, Reece, Dave

Dan Churchley: another scary photo!

Next fixture: Sunday home Kennington (10.30)

The visitors to the Swan Ground on Sunday morning for another pre-season friendly are local side Kennington. At this time of year there are always players away on holiday but it will give Craig and Tony a chance to look at those who have recently joined us.  One newcomer this season, Michael Smith, netted against Betteshanger in his first game, while there were also first outings for Adam Jeffrey and Kieran Hawkins. Latest to join the club is Jack Fuller who is expected to make his debut this week. Barry Sheather takes the whistle with the kick off at 10.30am.

Excellent first friendly outing for Green but Betteshanger edge in 4-2 at the Swan Ground on Sunday afternoon

Match report from Craig Smith

Credit must go to the boys who turned out in roasting hot conditions on Sunday for our first friendly of the new campaign. Originally this was set as a test – to see if we could compete with the league champions from last season who had been promoted. We have since found out that we will be joining our guests in Division 2 and the boys proved that they have the potential to be challenging this season. My instructions before the game was to play short simple passes for as long as possible. We wanted to make sure that Betteshanger were doing the running around. The boys delivered as we looked very comfortable and created a few chances. The decisive moment came after the first water break. The first bit of football Betteshanger strung together culminated in a fine finish. Previously they had been limited to the long ball – with a keeper who kicks it as far as any of our senior keepers do. Heads down Betteshanger doubled their lead with a controversial goal – which may have been offside – when we lost the ball in an attacking position and a bounce in front of Liam Wratten ensured the ball went in. The break saw Tony and I reiterate the need to play football and once again the boys delivered. With Aaron pushing upfront and Reece Calahane coming into centre midfield we had more options. A fine through ball from Reece was latched onto by debutant Kieran Hawkins – who after a fine bit of skill halved the deficit. With this the chances came. Aaron forced a point blank stop from the keeper and headed just over and Dave was unlucky from a few yards out. Another controversial goal – with no linesmen – allowed Betteshanger to make it 3-1. Not to be outdone fellow debutant Mike Smith finished from an acute angle after great work firstly from Calahane and secondly from Hawkins. 3-2. With minutes remaining the size of Betteshanger told as a deep cross was nodded in from 6 yards to complete the goalscoring. Overall the boys can be very pleased with how they played. We were able to roll the subs on and off and this meant the entire squad got a good run-out – many in several positions. Special mention to Jack Blowers who adapted very well to a new position at centre half as the game went on. Also to Adam Jeffrey who made his debut across the backline. Next for the boys comes Kennington and with the way we played today we surely must go into the game very confident. Squad: Liam, Martyn, Jack, Joe (C), Jamie, Kryz, Ash, Aaron, Dan, Marcus, Kieran, Mike, Dave, Reece, Adam.

A Special note: Congratulations to Liam Wratten, Jamie Hurst and Martyn Dalby, all who made their senior debuts in the friendly vs the Man of Kent this weekend.

Green open league campaign with local derby

The fixtures for the coming season have paired the Green away to local side Kennington Juniors on 14 September. Another local derby follows on 21 September with Ashford Borough Colts visiting the Swan Ground. Kick off for boths games is 2pm.  A copy of all fixtures will be given to players at the ground this Sunday when we welcome Betteshanger for the first pre-season match.

Sunday night update 13 July

Forms please: some of you have still to return your white Bromley Green FC application for membership forms with your £10 annual fee, your signature and a parent/carer signature.  All the time you are youth players, we have to have consent from a parent/carer for you to play. Despite some of you wishing to argue with me, the fact is that you are not insured and cannot receive emergency first aid/medical treatment if it is needed until this form is signed by your parent/carer and returned.  The consequences of this do not bear thinking about; so please just get it done before the friendlies. Those of you who have not attended training recently will not even have the form, so please get one from Terry this Tuesday at training and return it to him next week.  Also, some of you still need to give Terry your two passport photos; again please attend to as a matter of urgency. Many thanks, Dave.

Kennington friendly fixed for Sunday 3 August

Another fascinating friendly has been booked with local side Kennington providing the opposition at the Swan Ground on Sunday 3 August. I have spoken to Tony today and he and Neil (Kennington manager) have agreed on a 10.30am kick off. Dave.

Monday 7 July evening update…

Folkestone Invicta will visit the Green on Thursday 14 August for another exciting pre-season match

Following last night’s news that Betteshanger will visit us for a pre-season friendly, another exciting fixture has been booked for Thursday 14 August when Folkestone Invicta will bring their highly-rated Under 16s to the Swan Ground. Talking to The Green Lane tonight, Dave Homewood said “I am delighted the Vics manager Stuart Welsh has agreed to bring his lads here for what should be another stern test for the Green boys. Invicta are a senior club, one of the top in the county, and I am sure we will make them welcome and give them a good game.”  Kick off will be at 6.30pm.

Sunday 6 July evening update…

Green welcome league champions Betteshanger in mouthwatering opening pre-season friendly

The boys are keen to get their pre-season programme under way and have meaningful  opposition as we prepare for next season in Division 2. What better way to start than to take on the league champions Betteshanger … and that’s the challenge for the lads on 27 July when we welcome the current title holders to the Swan Ground.  Kick off is at 2pm.  Watch this space as I have invited a number of the top sides to face us in friendlies between now and the league kick off in September. Dave.

Reminder: As several players find dificulty in arriving on time for a 5.30 pm start, training from now on begins at 6pm…so please arrive by 5.45pm

If you cannot make training, out of common courtesy you should text Craig or Tony

Please return your BGFC Application for Membership forms to Dave or Terry as soon as possible with your £10 annual membership (remember, as you are still youth footballers, it has to be signed by a parent/carer)

The £10 for name on shirt and £10 for a complete tracksuit will be asked for at a later date…this should make it easier for everybody to find the money over a period of time

Dan Churchley set to follow in Danny Valler’s footsteps

A delighted Dan Churchley receives the U15 Managers Player of the Season award from first team stalwart Danny Valler. Valler himself is a former youth player who rapidly progressed through the ranks to win himself a string of major honours, including four league championships with the Green’s Sunday seniors.

Craig Smith: new team boss

New management duo appointed following the departure of Steve Mailey

Statement by The Patron of Bromley Green FC

With effect from Monday  30 June 2008,    the structure of the Under 16 management team will be as follows: the Team Manager will be Mr Craig Smith who will work alongside former senior manager and player Mr Tony Williams. The Executive considers that this blend of youth and experience, with two gents passionate about the game, represents the most professional and exciting way forward. Tony will supervise the 6pm Tuesday training sessions henceforth and cover when Craig is late back from work. We wish Craig and Tony a successful partnership as they guide the squad through the next stage of their football and personal development. The Executive takes this opportunity of thanking Mr Steve Mailey for his excellent work over recent months and is deeply sorry to see him leave. It should be reiterated that the club has done everything in its powers to persuade Steve to stay but we must now respect his decision to devote all his energies to Ashford Cavaliers FC.

Dave Homewood (Patron)

Statement by outgoing youth manager Steve Mailey

Breaking this sort of news to the lads was never going to be easy nor was there ever going to be a right time or place. So I must apologise to the lads for what may have seemed a slightly cloak and dagger approach! The truth is quite the opposite. A decision was made by myself a while ago which resulted in my eventual departure and I have to say the manner in which the matter has been handled by certain individuals within the club is a credit to Bromley Green FC.

The underlying desire by all involved was to ensure the under 16 squad continued representing the club in the coming season – as well as the club continuing to offer the lads a place within the club. I am delighted (and maybe a little relieved) that the youth squad will now be taken forward under the leadership of both Craig and Tony. The most pleasing aspect I feel is that the club haven’t simply found two guys to tick things over, they have appointed people with an obvious knowledge of the game, with a passion for the game and, crucially, a personal connection with Bromley Green.

After becoming quite attached to the lads, I’m pleased the new manager(s) have the foresight and the tools to address a more long term plan for the boys. It was time that I was unable to commit to them, yet that seems to have been addressed now and I wish everyone connected with the U/16 well in what should be an exciting time ahead.

My message though, is for the boys – Thank you so very much – it’s been fun, a challenge, and great to see certain lads improve since I joined. The potential of many of you is clear. I hope you understand that every aspect of this change has your best interests placed ahead of anything else. Make good use of what Craig and Tony have to offer and your improvement will continue as you approach the next level of your football education. I hope to come along and watch from time to time and I really do wish you well, both inside and outside of football.

As for Dave, Terry and Stan (among others), your efforts were both noted and certainly appreciated. I wish you well and look forward to working together again someday.

Yours In Sport, Steve Mailey

Green are runners up at Ashford Festival of Sport

Our two sides in the Ashford Festival of Sport both worked hard and finished second and third respectively in a competition strangely based solely upon a league system rather than having a deciding final. All the lads deserve praise for giving maximum effort. The players representing us were: Liam Wratten, Martyn Dalby, Marcus Dalby, Reece Cahalane, Reece Murrell, Jack Blowers, Jamie Hurst, Aaron Neil, Krzysztof Pierzchala, Dan Churchley, Ashley Wojtowicz, Joe Barton, Michael Smith, Kieran Hawkins, Jack Acott and the impressive George Wall who scored in the final game to clinch runner-up spot. The boys are now looking forward to pre-season training under their new manager and coach who were introduced this afternoon and the target is clear: we want to win the league next season! Full details of the management changes and pictures from the awards night will be published on the ‘Latest News’ tab on Monday morning.

IMPORTANT! Can players please bring their two passport-sized photos to training either this Tuesday or the next. You need to get your league signing-on form from Dave.

Green have two sides in Ashford Festival

Bromley Green will have now have two sides in the Ashford Festival of Sport tournament on Sunday 29 June. Apparently there is no revised date for the cancelled Ashford Borough competition which was rained off last month.

Faversham sixes tournament (Sunday 8 June 2008)

The Green were lacking any real conviction in the Faversham Strike Force six-a-side tournament this morning and were eliminated in the qualifying stages. Playing more as individuals than a team and holding onto the ball far too long, we only came to grips with the rules and demands of the competition in the last game which resulted in a 1-0 win courtesy of a Joe Barton goal. As manager Steve Mailey said afterwards, “This shows how much the boys have to learn and a great deal will depend on whether they actually listen or not”. Green: Liam Wratten, Joe Barton, Aaron Neil, Reece Cahalane, George Wall, Ashley Wojtowicz, Martyn Dalby, Keiran Hawkins. The next tournament is the Ashford Festival on Sunday 29 June.

New keeper signs for next season

The Green have moved quickly to secure the services of Liam Wratten for next season. The keeper, who made a huge impact at the Port Lympne tournament, signed at training on Tuesday. Having a recognised man between the sticks has been a long-standing problem for our youth side and we welcome Liam to the club.

(11.5.08) Green do well to reach Port Lympne sixes final

The Green entered two sides in the Port Lympne Tournament and did really well to reach the final where they missed out to a single goal.  Aaron Neil received the man of the match accolade in the final tie and there were encouraging debuts from keeper Liam Wratten and striker Kieran Hawkins. Final squad: Wratten, Hurst, Murrell, Neil, Wojtowicz, Acott, Marcus Dalby

Sunday 18 May: Barbecue at ground (Aaron, Martyn, Jack to organise)

Green keep up winning run … Thanet are next

The Under 15s maintained their superb end-of-season sequence of results with a 5-2 away win against Park Farm Rangers.  Steve Mailey reports from The Ridge:

Dave,

Park Farm 2 5 Bromley Green With players away this trip to the Ridge meant us taking on Park Farm with just 12 players. The goal keeper situation was an issue yet again – Reece Cahalane agreeing to do the honours this week to help the team. Reece will feel upset at both Farms goals, although he dealt with most other things well. As for Green, we played in patches to be fair. Our back line dealt with most things, although we still panic a bit too much! Midfield saw an impressive display from Pierzchala and a workman like effort from Neil, whilst both Bugden, and later Dalby, offered well from wide. Dan Churchley’s usual work rate earnt him two goals, and further strikes from Bugden and Wall kept our noses in front. An impressive 35 yard effort from Murrell beat the keeper for our fifth. Farms keeper was unlucky in fairness, as a couple of his attempts prevented the score line increasing earlier in the game. In all, a pleasing display, although a little more thought would have seen us wrap this one up much earlier. Man Of The Match went to Aaron Neil for his efforts in midfield, although one or two others were in contention. Well done to all. George Wall double spurs Green to another win

Steve Mailey reports from a snow-hit Swan Ground

Dave,

Bromley Green 3  - 2 Ashford Colts

Played in a snow blizzard, the boys returned to action against

local side Ashford Colts. We began with a good tempo and kept

it up for most of the game. Hurst and Bugden kept cool heads

at the back, whilst Acott put in a fine display in midfield and

again later in defence. Neil created several openings from wide

and Churchley offered his usual work rate further forward. Yet

the star for the day was George Wall, who put in a superb display

in centre midfield. The best i’ve seen him play – and scoring twice

meant the Man of the Match award was a formality. In between

George’s strikes came a goal for Dan Churchley. At 3-0 we were

very comfortable, but the bitter conditions meant several changes

to keep the lads warm, and it did affect our shape. Colts scored

two fairly late goals which resulted in us hitting the panic button.

Barton and Dalby stood firm in the closing minutes to ensure the

three points were ours. Much the better side and a well earned

win. Well done to all.

Steve Mailey reports to The Green Lane

Dave,

Bromley Green 1 0 Deal Town Rangers

Recent results achieved by Deal suggested this would be a close game. It was. A new look back four and goal keeper performed as if they’d been together all year. Murrell and Bugden slotted in well and Dalby kept goal without concern. Certain players are starting to do as i ask and its pleasing to see. Cahalane had his best game to date that i’ve seen out wide, and Churchley’s work rate is a constant threat to defenders. A pleasing contribution from the bench by Pierzchala and Blowers using his size better added to the pressure we imposed on Deal. The goal came from a busy Ash Wojtowicz in the 1st half and we could easily have added to it. MoM went to Reece Murrell in defence for an assured display. The team effort was good after a couple of poor results and the spirit returned. Well done to all. Sunday: Green go down 4-0 at Betteshanger

Steve Mailey talks exclusively to The Green Lane

I had little joy in telling the boys at HT that i felt that was the
poorest i’d seen us play. We judged our opposition on reputation
& appearance rather than ability. The size difference was evident
yet again, but our lack of belief was the main concern. Coming in
at HT 0-3 was all we deserved. I asked them to close down more,
support team mates more, gamble more and make a game of it!
The response was terrific. Churchley and Murrell chased every ball
in attack, Cahalane and Blowers caused lots of problems wide, Neil
began to link defence and attack much more and O’Gorman never
missed a thing in defence all game, earning him MoM.
A penalty awarded against us in the closing minutes doesn’t take
away our improvement between the two halves. Had we done those
things from the start, i’m convinced we would have had a much more
enjoyable game and probably a point or three.

Sunday night report from Steve Mailey

“Dave,

Ashford Borough Colts 1 Bromley Green 0

As with last week, we came away thinking we should have got something from the game.  It was a very close fought game with very little between the sides.  Sadly our lack of height in the middle became our biggest problem.  In terms of attack, Jack Blowers caused problems from wide positions, Kieran John and Dan Churchley worked hard up front. The back line had another solid game, with Martyn Dalby and Jordan O’Gorman having near faultless displays.  The attitude was good and the lads know they were a little unlucky.  To see players showing frustration when narrowly beaten is a good sign of team spirit.

Steve Mailey’s Sunday Night update

Thanet Colts 3 – 1 Bromley Green

Losing out to the top side in the league shouldn’t cause too many concerns, but we left the game feeling we were every bit as good as they are. In a game played in high winds, we started a little slow and conceded quite early, thanks to the wind. We then started to compete more and drew level thanks to a persistent run and cool finish from Dan Churchley. The wind can take credit for a freak goal, which sent us in at the break 1-2 down. The second half should have been our chance to take advantage of the wind, and although we got in and around their area a dozen times, we failed to get the rewards. Committing players forward resulted in us getting caught out and conceding the third. Reece Murrell worked hard until coming off injured; Dan offered his usual high work rate and the entire back four worked really well, with Martyn Dalby taking Man of the Match. Our midfield did little wrong, yet struggled against a very tall opposition. Generally pleased, although a little more composure and a little less arguing with officials may well have given us a share of the points at least.

GREEN WIN AGAIN !

WOODNESBOROUGH 1 BROMLEY GREEN 3

Sunday night report from team manager Steve Mailey

Dave

Another pleasing outing, lads listened and benefited from trying to do as I asked. A sloppy start could have been costly, but we settled and began to look the more dangerous side. Throughout the side, we showed great effort and team spirit. Two wonderful saves from Bugden stood out, as did top displays from O’Gorman and Hurst in a defence that works well together. A midfield master class from Aaron Neil was matched by all three forwards (Murrell, Churchley, John) contributing to an impressive display. Man of the Match is a tough one – but I’d go for Jordon O’Gorman – just ahead of 3 other candidates! Lots of scope to get more from certain players and I look forward to doing just that.

Martin Bugden / Martyn Dalby / Joe Barton / Jordon O’Gorman / Jamie Hurst
Jack Blowers / Aaron Neil / Ashley Wojtowicz / George Wall / Reece Murrell / Dan Churchley
Subs used: Jack Acott / Kieran John / Reece Callahan
Not used: Marcus Dalby

Goals: Martyn Dalby / Dan Churchley / Kieran John

Newsflash!

Jamie Allan has just informed me that the Charlton-v-WBA game is now on the Bank Holiday Friday of 21 March (we had planned for Saturday 22 March). Not to worry, we can either still go to this game which has a 4.45 kick off or the following Saturday against Wolves. Perhaps you can let Steve and Rupert know on Sunday/Tuesday which you prefer…I still need the consent forms and deposits in please [remember you get the £5 back when you board the coach on the day]. Thanks and good luck Sunday. Dave.

NEXT WEEK (20 January): We are hoping to play Thanet in a rearranged match…details Sunday or Tuesday

CHURCHLEY HAT TRICK AS GREEN WIN 4-1

White Cliff Rangers 1 Bromley Green 4

Steve Mailey pronounced himself as ‘delighted’ with the effort and performance of the U15s after his first match in charge ended with this comprehensive victory at Elms Vale Road. Man of the match was Dan Churchley (pictured) who notched a hat trick with the other goal coming from Reece Murrell. Mailey said he “…couldn’t have asked for more from the whole team and I was pleased with the spirit and tremendous work rate. The keeper Martin Bugden deserves credit for good decision-making while the captain Joe Barton was an example of good desire to the whole team. The boys were prepared to listen and do as I asked and although there is loads to improve on, I am absolutely delighted with the effort they put in today.” Coach Rupert Sladden was also full of praise saying “This was the real Bromley Green; full of spirit and playing with pride. It was a fantastic performance and all the boys enjoyed themselves”.
Green: Martin Bugden; Martyn Dalby, Joe Barton, Jordan O’Gorman, Jamie Hurst; Jack Blowers, George Wall, Ashley Wojtowicz, Aaron Neil, Reece Murrell, Dan Churchley. Subs: Jack Acott, Marcus Dalby, Reece Calahane. Next week the lads face a stiff test away to Woodnesborough.

Tough trip to Dover as boys return to action

This Sunday (6 January 2008) The Green  return to action after a long break when travelling to Dover to meet White Cliff Rangers. The first meeting between the two sides at the start of the season ended with honours even and another close-fought encounter is anticipated. Steve Mailey and Rupert Sladden have announced the following squad but there are injury doubts over Bugden and latest signing Pierzchala: Martin Bugden, Martyn Dalby, Joe Barton, Jordan O’Gorman, Jamie Hurst, Aaron Neil, George Wall, Ashley Wojtowicz, Reece Calahane, Reece Murrell, Jack Blowers, Kieran John, Dan Churchley, Marcus Dalby, Krzysztof Pierzchala.

DECEMBER 2007
JAMIE HURST

This month the spotlight turns on bubbly left back Jamie Hurst who netted his first goal for the Green recently when scoring the opener in the 5-2 victory over Park Farm Rangers.

Born in Ashford, Jamie comes under the Aquarius star sign and attends Homewood School in Tenterden where he enjoys and excels at PE. Jamie supports Chelsea in the Premiership, so somewhat surprisingly the person he would most like to be stuck in a lift with is Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard; and the person he would least like to be stuck in a lift with is Paris Hilton.

When it comes to the television, Jamie’s favourite programs are ‘The Simpsons’ and ‘I’m a celebrity get me out of here’ but for some reason he does not like ‘Emmerdale’. His favourite food is chicken and for drink he prefers a can of Dr Pepper.

Should he have a huge win on the lottery, Jamie says that he would buy new mansions…although he does not expand as to exactly why he would need such massive buildings.

He thoroughly enjoys his time at Bromley Green but the one thing Jamie would like to see the club buy is new floodlights for training. When he leaves school, Jamie is considering either a career in cooking or perhaps training as a PE Instructor.

Mark Acott reports that the U15s played very well and should have won this local derby. Leading 1-0 at half time the Green lost both their strikers Keiron John and Reece Murrell through injury in the second period and paid the penalty for allowing the ball to bounce which cost both goals.

___________________________________________Next Sunday: away to Deal Town in cup

After a less than sparkling friendly performance against Park Farm, that ended in a 3-0 defeat, the lads now turn to more serious business with a trip to play Deal in the cup. Plans for a squad night out with some of the seniors will be finalised at training on Tuesday night.

(14.10.07) Sir James Bugden reports from the Swan Ground…

Green beaten 4-1 by Betteshanger

After trailing 1-0 at the interval, a perfect lob from substitute Aaron Neil evened the scores and the boys looked capable of going on to secure maximum points. However, the visitors went in front with a free kick and this proved a turning point as the Green’s defence faced an onslaugt of attacks. Martin Bugden did well to keep the score respectable in his role as stand-in keeper while there were good performances from Joe Barton, Reece Murrell, the returning Jack Blowers, Jamie Hurst and man of the match Ashley Wojtowicz.  Manager Mark Acott dismissed reports that his son Jack was packing it in as premature: “We all say things in the heat of the moment … like me, he does not like losing … the biggest problem now is we don’t have anyone willing to play in goal on a regular basis”. Next week is a free week. Players and parents are reminded that training on Tuesdays at the ground commences at 5.30pm under lights to save the boys money and there is the opportunity later in the evening to join in with some of the senior players training.

(7.10.07) Sunday afternoon…first with the news…

GREEN CONTINUE TO CLIMB THE TABLE

Ashford Colts 3 Bromley Green 4

Bromley Green continued their good form with a hard-fought league win at sunny Spearpoint on  Sunday afternoon against their local rivals after going a goal behind early on. Leading scorer Keiron John levelled soon after half time and the same player put us 2-1 ahead before the home team drew level at 2-2. After part-time keeper Martin Bugden had saved a penalty, George Wall did better from the spot at the other end to see the Green edge in front once more. Reece Murrell with a long range effort that somehow deceived the home goalie made it 4-2 but the gallant Colts side never gave in and netted again to ensure a close finale. It was good to see a few more parents in attendance and Jamie Hirst’s mother chose Joe Barton as her man of the match. Jordan O’Gorman and Ashley Wojtowicz were impressive in defence and midfield respectively for the Green who next Sunday welcome Betteshanger to the Swan Ground for a 2pm kick off.

Six of the best as Green march on in cup

Doubles for Keiron John and Reece Murrell

Bromley Green travelled to South Road, Hythe on Sunday afternoon and returned with a marvellous 6-1 cup win as they put last week’s misery behind them. Martin Bugden took over in goal and his attitude and good handling when it mattered in the first half earnt him the man of the match accolade from the Club Patron Dave Homewood. Second division Stars and Stripes put up a gallant show but the Green have a large and talented squad these days and gradually took control of an entertaining cup tie.  George Wall and debutant Ashley Wojtowicz were impressive in midfield while centre backs Joe Barton and Martyn Dalby cleared their lines well. Reece Cahalane, always a threat down the wing, also shone for the rampant Green who netted through Keiron John (2), Reece Murrell (2), Dan Churchley and Jack Acott. Our roving reporter Sir James Bugden will be at Spearpoint next Sunday when the Green meet local side Ashford Colts in a league clash. Mark Acott and Rupert Sladden hope to have Aaron Neil and Jordan O’Gorman back on board for the match which kicks off at 2pm.

Green hope to be near full strength for Hythe trip

Bromley Green travel to South Road on Sunday for a cup tie with Stars and Stripes and the whole squad will be looking to put last week’s miserable debacle against Ashford Borough well and truly behind them. The Green expect to be almost back to full strength and joining the squad is new signing Ashley Wojtowicz who has impressed in training.

Bad afternoon as Green crash to shock home defeat

The atmosphere from the start was always tetchy as the Green suffered their first league defeat of the season, 2-0 at home to local rivals Ashford Borough Colts at the Swan Ground on Sunday. Reece Murrell made his debut in a game where the Green missed first half chances to take the initiative; while Martin Dalby had to deputise between the sticks. Bad language and attitude from a minority leave much to ponder over from a fixture we were expected to win.  Joe Barton and Jordan O’Gorman both put in mature performances but otherwise it was a day to forget. Next week the Green face Stars and Stripes in the cup…more details nearer the time.

Youth Spotlight: September

AARON NEIL

Talks to the Patron, Dave Homewood

Midfield dynamo Aaron is in his second season at the Green and is the captain of the Under 15 side that plays in the East Kent Youth League. Born in Rochester, he comes under the star sign Sagittarius and currently attends the North Secondary School in Ashford. Aaron, who is considering training to be a PE Teacher, is keen for the club to provide what he describes as ‘good training equipment’…if you talk to your manager and coach and let me know exactly what is needed, Aaron, I will see what I can do.

Fav football club Manchester Utd

Fav TV show Fear Factor

Most disliked TV show Eastenders

Fav food/drink Bacon/Pepsi

Aaron would most like to be stuck in a lift with Wayne Rooney while Jens Lehmann would be his last choice!  Should he win bigtime on the lottery, Aaron would move to South Afica (he does not say why) and buy a mansion in America.  Away from football, he excels at boxing and dirt bike racing.

Aaron is approaching an important season for himself and team mates as in another year’s time some of the lads should be pushing for senior experience. He is the ideal man to follow in the illustrious footsteps of former youth captains such as Paul Brenchley, Lennie Griffiths and Lee McRobert; while his attitude and pride in wearing the Green shirt inevitably draw comparisons with our club skipper Glenn Mackett. We wish him every success on and off the field and are confident he will go on to carve out a great career with Bromley Green Football Club.

LATEST REPORT SUNDAY 16 SEPTEMBER 2007

Keiron John lashed a hat trick as the boys recorded a marvellous 4-2 win against Woodnesborough in a match switched to the Swan Ground. Our roving reporter, Sir James Bugden, says it was an especially good result as two key lads were missing and Jack Acott is also out for a long spell with a fractured right shoulder. Also on target was this months Spotlight player, the captain, Aaron Neil while stand-in keeper Martyn Dalby deserves a special mention. A great start for the Green who have four points from their opening two league matches and are gaining in confidence all the time.

Green: Steven Head, Martyn Dalby, Tom Hazlewood, Jordan O’Gorman, Martin Bugden, Reece Cahalane, George Wall, Aaron Neil, Dan Churchley, Keiron John, Joe Barton. Subs: Luke Boswell, Jamie Head

Keeper quits after one game

The Green have been shocked at the sudden decision by goalkeeper Jamie Head to pack in playing. However, the Green management believe it has nothing to do with the playing side but rather down to other factors outside of the Club’s control. Martyn Dalby is one option to take over between the sticks for Sunday’s trip to Woodnesborough.

Green boys settle for 1-1 draw in close opening league match

Throughout the season, our roving reporter Sir James Bugden, will be corresponding with the Patron to bring details of all the boys games. Sunday saw a marvellous George Wall goal give us the lead but the visitors, Whytecliff Rangers, came back to earn an equaliser. An excellent match with Jordan O’Gorman, Jamie Head and Martyn Dalby the pick of a Green side that never really hit the top form shown in some of the friendlies. Still it is early days and the squad has much more depth to it this season. Mark Acott and Rupert Sladden were delighted to see Vice Presidents Dave Andrews, Mark Day, Terry Perk, Alvin Gigg, Gary Gibbs, the Patron, senior Green men Lee Gilham, Tom Lockett, Darryl Hagger and team manager Phil Wedge supporting the lads. Next Sunday the boys are on their travels…preview later in the week.

Green: Jamie Head, Martyn Dalby, Tom Hazelwood, Jordan O’Gorman, Martin Bugden, Reece Cahalane, Jack Acott, George Wall, Aaron Neil, Dan Churchley, Keiron John. Subs: Jamie Hurst, Luke Boswell, Steven Head

Coming soon: The Bromley Green Spotlight will fall on a different player each month. First up will be the skipper of the side, influential midfielder Aaron Neil.

FA coach joins staff…boost for the boys and help for Mark Acott

Mark Acott will have some of the pressure taken off in the coming season following the appointment of an assistant to help him with the coaching of the Under 15s.  Rupert Sladden, a young FA coach just returned from America, was first approached by Patron Dave Homewood last season whilst studying at South Kent College and is seen as part of the club’s long-term planning.  Homewood said “Mark has proved his dedication to Bromley Green but quite frankly has too much on his plate; the arrival of Rupert will not only add a new dimension to the boys’ training but also allow Mark some breathing space to concentrate on the multitude of tasks facing a manager.  Rupert, who hails from Elham, will be under the wing of Vice President Terry Perk who was last night elected as the club’s Development Officer.  Part of our vision for the future is a return to being the leading provider of opportunity for youth in the district and I firmly believe that Mark, Rupert and Terry form an exciting team off the field.  As far as on the field is concerned, several of the lads, admirably captained by Aaron Neil, have the potential to move into the senior sides over the next few years.  These are exciting times at the Green and the team cannot wait for the real action to begin next month”.  Sladden, aware that it will take time to settle into his new role, sees his job as “…helping Mark to see the boys into a higher league placing than last season”.

Message from the Patron of Bromley Green FC

Firstly, thanks for a splendid turn-out at the Annual Awards Night; I know it meant a lot to Mark your manager, and of course several of you picked up some very special awards. Congratulations to the trophy winners but I think the whole squad deserves praise for coming through a sticky patch when it would have been quite easy to call it a day. I hope you already feel a part of the club, and I can only repeat that it is yourclub as much as mine or Mark’s. We have a reputation as a club with a social conscience, where people come first, and I will treat you with the same respect as that accorded to our most senior players. I will be looking for complete dedication from you in the future and in return I pledge 24/7 support from myself and fellow officers. There is an old saying in this town that goes “Once a Green boy, always a Green boy” … I trust you will all embrace that ethos and I wish you a successful and enjoyable new season with many more to follow. All players are invited to contribute to the website with their comments, ideas; simply email me at

davehomewood@bromleygreen.co.uk

or use the mobile 07980869351. Starting in September, there will be a monthly player in the ‘spotlight’, where you can give your views on all sorts of things … we have done this before with the seniors and it is good fun…and of course you can have your picture and opinions spread ‘worldwide’! I will explain this properly one Tuesday when I see you and will start with the captain Aaron.

19.2.07 The lads went down 5-3 to Betteshanger this afternoon but there is definitely an air of optimism and a move to winning ways should not be far off.  All credit to the new-look team which fought back magnificently after being 4-0 at half time.

Acott determined to build for next season

Under 14 manager Mark Acott will be the first to admit that his first season in management has been far from easy.  However, despite several players being poached and others moving on to different pastures, Acott has been busy filling the gaps to keep the side going.  Amongst the newcomers are Marcus Dalby, Daniel Churchley and Kieran Leppard and we extend a warm welcome to each of them.

Urgent moves are being made to find a suitable training venue while the manager has made two more signings to bolster the squad.

The Green U14s had their fair share of play against Park Farm Rangers on Tuesday evening before eventually going down 0-2 at the Swan Ground in their last friendly prior to Sunday’s moutwatering opener when Ramsgate are our visitors for a 2 o’clock kick off. Clashes with the Rams have traditionally provided plenty of spice and there is no reason to think things have changed during our break from the East Kent Youth League.

After several years without our own youth sides, the Green are back in the East Kent Youth League this season with Mark Acott as the team manager. Training is  on Tuesdays at the Swan Ground and any players or parents interested are welcome to contact Mark at mark.acott@networkrail.co.uk
