The weekend ahead

Saturday firsts home to New Romney (cup game postponed from last week) Kick off at 1.30 Saturday reserves are now away to Lydd Reserves and not Oakwood Reserves for a league fixture. Sunday firsts away to Ashford Cavaliers in the Premier. Sunday reserves home to Churchills. Under 16s travel to Thanet.

**********

Ben Henaghan is leaving the area: Sunday first team utility player Ben Henaghan has played his last game for the club. Ben, a hundred per cent man who has recently excelled in midfield, is moving back up north. We wish him well for the future.

**********

Two players gain first aid certificate: Congratulations to Liam Smith and Craig Smith who this week attended a first aid course and are now fully qualified. This is the kind of interest and enterprise we need and it is so important to have members at our games that are able to assist people in difficulty. Well done gents!

Saturday Night Update: All Green Senior Games are off this weekend (10/11)

Players keep ringing me asking why games are off and whilst I do understand the frustration we can’t blame Phil for the conditions underfoot. Safety must come first and that is why there were no games in the Ryman South today at all, a single match in the Kent League (a crowd of 31 watched Sporting Bengal Utd lose 3-1 at home to Norton Sports) and no matches in the County League Premier or Reserves Division Eastern. For those in doubt, the Saturday match was called off mid-morning jointly between Phil and the manager Dave Smith and Sunday morning’s game was called off at 6.02 pm by Phil and myself with the ground hardening as we spoke. Of course we all look forward to fixtures against old friends such as New Romney and Kennington but waiting till a later date is better than serious injuries. In one last effort to get a game on this weekend, Phil is hoping by the time of the U16s kick off that conditions are playable, and most importantly, safe for all concerned.

**********

Briefly…

Jason Thomas is determined to play on and hopes to be back in action next weekend despite a three-month wait for keyhole surgery on his dodgy knee.
Next Saturday the firsts have a crucial home game with Coney Hall where we really do need the points to be able to breathe a little easier. Skipper Glenn Mackett should be refreshed after a long lay off and new signing Andy Wood gives the Green more options. Meanwhile Alfie, Trent and the reserves face another stern test away to Oakwood Reserves. On Sunday we make the short trip to Goldwyn School to meet Ashford Cavaliers for what should be another entertaining affair. I am awaiting the Sunday reserves fixtures…details soon. We can only hope for a proglonged dry and mild spell so some momentum can be formed in this stop-start season.

From the Committee: Former player and manager Gary Skillett has been co-opted onto the Executive Committee with a view to being fully elected at the next AGM. Gary, who currently sponsors the U16s, will not be attached to any particular team and will provide both experience and objective input.

Report from Craig on Sunday’s local derby win

Hi Dave,

Please find match report below.

A hard fought victory has seen us stay right in the hunt for the title. This was the first time we have played someone for the second time this season and the Boys showed a lot of character on a heavy pitch which hampered rather than helped us.

We have improved loads since the last time we played Borough. We haven’t lost in the league since the opening day of the season and the pressure was on us to go get the victory. Borough made it hard. Their keeper made a fine double save – first from Kieran then Martyn. On a break Borough benefitted from some overplay at the back and went 1 up. 1 could have soon been 2 if it weren’t for a fine save from Liam. The boys then burst into life. Kieran skimmed past 3 before finding his strike partner Reece for a tap in. Borough were so concerned with Kieran that Reece was able to punish them the whole game. Kieran to his credit rose above it all (even a naughty challenge) rite at the beginning and contributed to his teams cause. At 1-1 the boys were more comfortable and after their keeper bravely stopped Kieran we soon and our second as a delightful little chip from Reece gave him his second of the game.

Half time allowed us to regroup and outline the need to take the game to them and we did. We were put under pressure but superb sweeping from Jordan gave us a nice safety net. 10 mind into the second half John Holt burst through 2 players and cool as you like slotted home to make it 3-1 . His first goal for the club capped a fine performance. 3 was 4 after great work from Krysz found Dan Churchley who knocked a beautiful whipped cross onto Reece’s head to complete his first ever hat trick. Thoroughly deserved. The remainder of the game was us digging deep. Battling defending and real heart. Jordan superb, Joe Dominant, everyone committed 120%. Kieran had one ruled out for offside and George came close but overall a superb win which sets up nicely for a 6 pointer against Betteshanger next week.

A gutsy performance and well deserved win. Borough’s manager complimented Aaron who controlled the game. We are coming together as a team now, there is a real togetherness in our quest for the title. I have a selection headache for next week as all boys performed well and I have some returning but I am delighted to have such a problem.

Team: Liam, Adam J, Jordan, Joe (c), Dan, Mike, Martyn, Aaron, George, Kieran, Reece, Krysz, Jamie, John

MoM: Jordan who swept superbly the whole game and Reece who was cool as you like for all Three goals

Craig

Next week, please note I would like to talk to all players, officials, parents and supporters after the game with Betteshanger. We will consider options for next season for the players with everyone’s opinion valued. The findings will then be put before the Executive at their next meeting and a decision made. Anyone who would like to discuss the options with me beforehand is welcome to email the above address or ring me on 07980869351. I look forward to your input. Thanks Dave.

(Please note…if the Betteshanger game is off for any reason…the meeting will take place 2pm)

SORRY…THE RAIN HAS BEATEN US!

Like most local matches, tomorrow’s Under 16 fixture has fallen foul to the weather with our pitches simply too wet to risk playing on … so we’ll play it later on in the season

Happy Birthday to Aaron from everyone at The Green

From Craig Smith: I would firstly like to state how proud I am of my team after yesterdays narrow defeat to Ashford Borough A. The boys showed true heart and determination and I am proud to coach them. They didn’t deserve to lose the game and together we will do everything in our power to win the league now. Ashford Borough A 4-3 Bromley Green On a terrible pitch this derby cup 1/4 final was everything you would want in a football match. Even the parents who turned up to watch the game next to us were watching our game. Goals, Comebacks, Tackles, Dram, Controversy – It had it all and Bromley Green can be proud of all 14 players who put in a hearty performance and be proud of all the support from the club and parents. On a boggy pitch we knew we were in for a tough game. We lie nicely in 2nd of our league whilst Ashford Borough sit top of the division above us. We went into the game with our strongest squad and gave the division 1 side a big scare. We started well. Aaron smashing the bar with a 20 yard effort. This came from Nice play out wide before it worked its way to Aaron in the middle who was unlucky. Unfortunately it was rare in the first half that we got the ball wide – the times we did we looked dangerous as this was the nicer part of the pitch. Borough’s attack headed by ex Green man Gary Penfold were dangerous. The played slick football and took the lead after a move down the right ended up with the ball going in at the near post. It was hard to see how this went in but we couldn’t dwell on it. Ashford Borough pushed for more and if it weren’t for Liam making 2 great stops they may have got it. First an advancing save similar to that of Carsons vs Juventus in 05 and then a tip over the bar. Borough did double their lead when a cross on the right from the dangerous Penfold was controlled by the midfielder and tapped in. His first touch from the air took it round Liam – somewhat fortuitously – but none the less the lead was doubled. It could have been 3 if not for an amazing tackle from Martyn Dalby – Gaping goal for Borough and Dalby put his body on the line to make the stop. Adam Carroll came on in place of Jordan O Gorman to make his debut for the club. At half time the boys listened. They understood everything said and the team that came out in the second half was the team that can win our division. They pressurised Ashford Borough at every opportunity. Reece,Kieran,Aaron,Smithy and Dan gave their defence no time and this panicked them. Martyn Dalby and Adam Carroll picked up their two big midfielders and they went quiet. By reverting top 3-5-2 like we did last week the boys took the game to their opponents. A corner from Kieran was bundled in to make it 2-1. Quite who is claiming this goal I don’t know – first come first served I believe. Adam was becoming a real handful in the middle of the park but an injury meant he was replaced by the more attacking George Wall. This paid off as we firstly levelled the game through Kieran (again coming up trumps when we need a goal) and then Kieran raced through to a ball from George took on two and beat the keeper to go 3-2 up. In between this Liam had made another great stop. I made it about 88 minutes when we took the lead. The boys dug deep. Jordan made a challenge on the byline missing the ball and the player as it went out – out throw? apparently not as it was given the other way. Some neat build up led to a thunderous drive on the right to make it 3-3. This was time and I was looking forward to getting the boys in ready for extra time. We then played a further 4-5 minutes in which Ashford Borough with their tales up scored with the last kick of the game. Fair play to Borough they never gave up and secured the win – but the boys can count themselves very unlucky not to have least taken it to extra time. One incident earlier in the game for me could have resulted in us playing against 10 but football is football and the boys never complained they fought hard and showed a real togetherness. It was pleasing to see the boys upbeat at the end pf the game. They know they worked hard and played well. Adam J, Jordan and Joe again looked good as a 3 and our strength in depth was shown as Adam Carroll, Martyn Dalby, Aaron Neil, Mike Smith, George Wall, Krzystof Pierzchala, Jamie Hurst and Dan Churchley all played in positions to help the team even if slightly different than their usual place. Hold your heads up lads – next week Kennington and we know that if we play like we did today we can push for the title. Team: Liam, Adam J, Jamie, Joe (C), Jordan, Martyn, Aaron, George, Dan, Reece, Kieran, Adam C, Krysz and Mike. MoM: A tough one again as all played so well. Aaron looked dangerous going forward, Martyn held the midfield very well and Adam Carroll was very impressive on debut but it once again goes to Keiran – its not just his goals but his work rate which is providing us with something no other team has. Jack Blowers has left BGFC with immediate affect. Jack who has been playing a year above himself has gone to play for Ashford U15s. We wish Jack every success. Their are a few rumours as to the reasons for his departure but we thank him for his contribution and will continue without him.

Green expect to be at full strength for Cup clash with local rivals

Green hit a dozen against Hawks

Hawkinge Youth 1 Bromley Green 12

The Green boys slammed in a dozen against bottom side Hawkinge on Sunday afternoon as their impressive run in the East Kent Molten Youth League continued. But Craig and Tony are well aware this is only a warm-up for much sterner tests to come as we are now definitely one of the sides to beat in the chase for honours. Craig talks to The Green Lane:

Hawkins hammers Hawkinge
A great win … and a goal for Jamie Hurst!
The warnings pre-game were simple: concentrate on football and do not become involved in any nonsense. We started poorly – we had no shape and from a cross on the right the ball ended up in our goal to put us 1-0 down. It was definitely a cross but Hawkinge’s desire in getting forward overawed the lack of shape we were showing. I was disappointed with the reaction to this goal. Our heads dropped and at times we looked like a broken team. To change the shape Adam Jeffrey came into right back and Martyn Dalby reverted to a holding midfielder – this made a massive difference and allowed us to play. Thankfully we got our act together and started playing football. We came close on a couple of occasions but during an unsavoury episode a player from each side was rightly issued with a red card. Kieran Hawkins once again showed how important he is for us as his willingness to run in behind defences enabled him to lob the oncoming keeper and level the scores. It was all Green now and another goal from Kieran made it 1-2 and then Hawkinge lost another lad for kicking the ball away and proceeding to call the ref obscenities. Five minutes later a Hawkinge player handled in the area and after a brief game of paper scissor and stones Kieran dispatched yet another hat trick with a well-taken penalty.

1-3 at half time we were good value for our lead as our football began to control the game. With a man up we changed to a back 3 and played 3-4-2 in order to really take the game to Hawkinge in the second half and Liam barely touched the ball. Kieran dispatched a 4th with consummate ease – a fantastic curved run and slot home. Jack Blowers was calm as the ball rebounded to him off the keeper as he made it 5 despite two people being on the line. Then a beautiful free kick from George Wall landed on Aaron’s chest and – as cool as you like- he controlled it and banged it into the goal to make it 6. Credit must go the boys as we kept on pushing – whilst at the back the back three of Adam Jeffrey, Joe Barton and Jordan O Gorman was solid and something I would definitely like to use again. Dan’s pace yet again caused concern down the left and Krysztof played well in a number of positions including left wing and holding midfield. A bursting run from Martyn Dalby from his holding midfield position made it 7 before George Wall smashed in eighth. Aaron then wrapped up his hat trick. Reece who played well all game and created 3 in total squared it for Aaron to walk the ball into the goal. 9. Then from 35 yards Aaron smashed home a fantastic drive to compete his trick and make it double figures. Reece finally got on the score sheet, and deservedly so as he slotted passed the keeper for 11 before Jamie Hurst – playing upfront- made it 12 from about 4 yards. He had previously missed 2 chances from 2 and 1 yards respectively – his second miss was out of this world – but credit to him he kept pushing on and his pace allowed him to toe poke number 12. Fair play to the Hawkinge boys who remained on the field as they look like they enjoyed themselves – the keeper even hugging the referee.
In fairness this result means little – we were expected to win and did – tougher challenges lay ahead but it was good to increase our goal difference and we moved into 2nd – 6 points off the top with 2 games in hand. We now move on to Ashford Borough in the cup 1/4 final. They are challenging in the league above us so we go in as underdogs but confident we can get to the last 4.
MoM – Again a joint one as in the end everyone played their part but it goes to Kieran and Martyn – Once again Kieran showed us he can bring us back into games and Martyn changed the game by providing us stability in the midfield.

NEWS FROM CRAIG: THURSDAY NIGHT (13 NOVEMBER 2008)

Hi Dave,

Please find below the preview for our game at Hawkinge on Sunday and then below the squad selected for the game.

Sunday sees us take on Hawkinge away. This originally qas supposed to be the second of back to back games against Hawkinge but due to last weeks postponement this is the first time we will meet this season. Away from our club results went our way last week with Kennington losing for the first time this season. Betteshnager, Kennington and ourselves have all now lost 1 beating each other. This means that if we can win our game sin hand we would be joint top. It is important however not to get carried away – we must be professional and make sure we stay in the hunt by putting in a solid display against Hawkinge. We know from our test against Easterners that we can’t take any sides for granted and I expect Sunday to be a tough game. We have put some good performances in recently. We have a settled back 5 and spine of the team and Reece and Kieran upfront have knocked in 16 goals between them in 7 games. Competetition for places is still hot! The recently signed Adam Carrol is waiting for his oppourtunity but as long as the boys keep winning they are all earning their shirts. We will need to be at our best to dispatch Hawkinge and I expect nothing less than 100% effort.

See you all Sunday
Craig

REPORT FROM CRAIG…

Hi Dave, Please find the Easteners match report below. Sunday saw us extend our winning run to 6 with a hard fought 4-2 victory against Easteners. On Paper this looked like a game where 3 points should have been achieved easily but Easterners league position is no reflection on their ability and their set up as they made us work mega hard to gain 3 points. Firstly credit to Steve from Easteners – He understands this league and having struggled to get a pitch was Happy to switch the game and also referee it – he was a fine example for Easteners FC and a good ref who dealt with every situation very well.We started brightly. Our pace on the attack caused them several problems – some last ditch challenges and some misses kept them in the game early on. Reece, Kieran and Dan looked a real threat but it was the Folkestone side who struck first. After a poor header away their forward lashed home a 25 yard strike. A stunning goal which in turn stunned us. The boys were caught by this and the visitors had the ball in the goal for a second time only for it to be ruled offside. The alarm had sounded and like so many times this season the boys stepped it up. Some fantastic teamwork from Hawkins and Murrell resulted in Hawkins equalising with his head. A deft flick from Reece setting the goal up. Just before half time Kieran found himself in down the left – the square ball to Reece was on and after a lucky bounce it fell to him to tap in the second.2-1 at Half time the boys knew they were in for a game – Mike Smith was battling hard down the right putting in some great tackles and ?Jamie – recalled to the starting 11 – was showing his composure on the ball and played us out of trouble on frequent occasions. After hitting the bar twice and their keeping making a few stops the away side equalised. punishment for not taking our chances. The boys dug deep. They weathered another storm and showed true grit. Kieran was played in by Smithy and he made no mistake dispatching his 10th of the season into the corner with his left. Soon after Reece finished after a shot hit the bar for his second goal of the game – total distance about 2 yards – but he worked his socks off all day and deserved his brace – as did Kieran. I changed to a more defensive last 10 minutes after this. Martyn Dalby moved to play Defensive midfielder and Reece and Keiran alternated the lone striker role, while the versatile Adam Jeffrey filled in a right back. We saw out the game and picked up the three points.Easteners will prove to be a tricky side for those at the top and I am encouraged by the fact that they may be able to knock some points off the top guns. The next time we play them is the last day of the season where I hope to be playing for the league.Team: Liam, Jamie, Joe (c), Jordan, Martyn, Jack, Dan, Aaron, George, Kieran, Reece, Adam, Krysz, Mike.MoM:~Liam Wratten – He came and got everything all day. Great composure and very brave.Sunday sees the first of two games against Hawkinge – although Bottom Sunday will have taught us to make sure we pay our game and concentrate to get the Three points. With Kennington and Betteshanger playing each other twice this is our chance to get to the top! ALL THOSE GOING TO WATCH ASHFORD (liam, jamie, john, adam carrol, david webb, marcus, martyn, kieran, reece, mike smith, joe, jordan, dan c, george, matt j) MEET AT THE TURNSTILES AT 14:00PM ON SATURDAY (HOMELANDS) ANY ADULTS WISHING TO GO MUST PAY £8. John is unluckly not to come back in as is Matty J. David Webb and Marcus are still waiting for their first appearence but as the fixtures come in now – League and Cup – all places are up for grabs! Adam Carroll forces his way onto the fringe after signing and impressing in training! He may not be asigned in time for Sunday but from now he is part of our squad and our plans!

BROMLEY GREEN 4 THANET YOUTH COLTS 1

A sunny afternoon, a big crowd and the visitors given a lesson in finishing, made for the perfect day for Craig and Tony as the Green continued their terrific form in the Molten East Kent Youth League. Great stuff from all the squad. Report from Craig …

Hi Dave,
Match report below [Training Tuesday, Highworth]
Reece Murrell man of the match on Sunday

Sunday saw us record our 4th consecutive victory with a 4-1 win over last seasons Division 3 champions.
Thanet arrived with just 10 players a vast change to when I played and they had 20 giants to pick from. Luckily we have a big squad and the boys who have given us this great start to the season are earning their spots.

The game started well. Inside 3 minutes a long ball over the top was latched onto by Reece Murrell who smashed home the opener. This is a different type of goal than usual but we obviously will take it. I feel slightly that the ease of this goal prompted us to go long to often however we got the ball down well at times and always looked dangerous. Thanets #9 looked lively up front – a brave block from Liam and then a header off the line from John saved us before we went on to grab a second. Reece again with a delightful lob over the keeper. Their keeper was good making several stops notably onevfrom George with his face. Liam then ensured we kept our 2 goal cushion with a stop just before half time.

At half time we asked to play our football and not be suckered into long balls. The boys listened after seeing out a ten minute spell where Thanet pulled one back through a well worked move on our right and a top finish, we got the ball down and killed them off. Mike Smith was a real threat down the right and Aaron in search of a goal scored a screamer to make it 3-1. John and Jack were getting a lot of space on the left and after another long shot by Aaron hit the bar Martyn Dalby bagged his second of the season with a neat close range finish.

At this point it was how many could we get. We were queing up but a combination of saves, misses and unluckiness kept it at 4-1, notably Kieran smashing the bar and as Reece looked certain to head in his hat trick their skipper made a brave clearence. I was really pleased with our second half performance. We have played a lot better but we still got the win and we will no longer be a surprise to teams. We must not get complacent we must work hard to push for the title. Our next games come against those struggling but we must be on our games to make sure we stay in the hunt. We had a real solid spine this week – straight down the middle – Liam, Jordan, Aaron and Reece. All were excellent. Everyone chipped in.
Team: Liam, John, Joe (c) ,Jordan,Martyn,Jack,Aaron,Krysz,Dan,Kieran,Reece,Mike,George,Jamie. Sub not used: Matt MoM- As I said we had a solid spine all 4 influenced the game but it goes to Reece who Thanet just couldn’t deal with.

Happy Birthday Joe from all at The Green!

Craig’s report from Sunday…

Magnificent, Magnificent, Magnificent – Its always important to stay neutral when writing these reports but the boys of Bromley Green deserve all the plaudits for their fantastic win in Betteshanger. Going into the game we were in confident mood. 2 Fine wins on the bounce had instilled a confidence within the squad which has been evident in training, evident in their attitudes and evident in their performances. It was a torrential and blustery day where no one would have battered an eye lid had the game been called off – To Betteshangers credit their pitch was in fine condition and they played the game. With such a strong wind the squad agreed to use it to their advantage first. Attacking downhill with a strong wind – the aim was simple – get a half time lead. Betteshanger however started brightly. Some neat football often played them in on our left side and after several warnings they earned themselves a penalty. It appeared that Mike Smith had got the ball first but the Ref felt otherwise. This penalty was blazed over the bar and this was the alarm call that the boys needed. Smithy and Dan regrouped on the left and cut out their option which meant that they resorted to what they did pre season – long ball over the top. When their central midfielder had time he would attempt to slide it through the back line on the floor but with any sort of pressure the long ball was implemented. Liam, who was superb throughout, commanded his area magnificently, he came to collect so much judging the wind against him with fantastic composure. To our credit we didn’t play long ball even with the wind. Short sharp passes getting it out wide were providing our attacking opportunities. A Ball from Martyn Dalby between their left back and Centre half found Kieran, who full of confidence, rounded the keeper to slot home 0-1. Fifteen minutes later it could have been two when we appeared to be awarded a penalty for a foul on Krysz. The Linesman had discussions with the Ref and they decided to make this a free kick on the edge – a controversial decision if I’m honest since the linesman was 50 yards away and the ref 10 but what can you do. Aaron stepped up and hit an absolute beauty of a free kick which the keeper made a world class save from. Aaron was continually a pain in the side of Betteshanger as he was the one leading the pressure on them every time they got the ball -a different style than his usual game but one which was greatly required and greatly affective. 0-1 at half time I told the boys to concentrate. With the wind against us the ball should come through to Liam a bit easier as Betteshanger would not change the way they played. Tony and I reiterated the need to keep the pressure on the ball with a rather amusing half time message from Tony and the boys responded well. Betteshanger had a lot of the ball but rarely threatened. Then from a corner the wind swept it towards the front post. Liam claimed the ball at full stretch on the post. He was then pushed into the goal and the ref somehow allowed the goal to stand. Testament to our character the boys responded magnificently. Aaron cleared one off the line from the next corner and then we took the game to Bettshanger. Fantastic flowing passing – again using the wings. Jack Blowers introduction on the left caused havoc – skipping past three challenges and crossing for Dan who’s touch allowed Aaron to smash in off the post. Kieran then went on a superb weaving solo run and buried it in the top corner to make it three one with 8 minutes to go. The boys then started playing keep ball and for around 5 minutes in their own half Betteshanger couldn’t touch the ball. This worked its way into the box for Kieran to complete his hat trick for the second game running. Again fully deserved! On the whole it appeared as though we wanted it more and the side who played the better football took the three points. The Boys have climbed to third in the table now – level on points with second place Betteshanger and we are on a run of form which we now must look to extend to 4 games when we entertain last years Division 3 Winners Thanet Colts. Fantastic performances throughout – Liam, Martyn, Joe, Jordan and Jon were again fantastic – George played left back for 15 minutes for the benefit of the team when John took a knock and in Central Midfield he caused problems for them. Aaron as I have said was hustling away all game and deserved a goal for his efforts. Kryzs was superb when he came on after 30 minutes. Fantastic vision and a lot of the game went through him. Dan and Jack terrorised their full backs and on several occasions their sweeper with fantastic runs and Smithy once again proved how versatile he is, playing right wing and left back. Reece occupied their sweeper all game which left space for the on fire Kieran to bag his 7th goal in 4 games. Matty Jarvis also made an appearance to take his tally to two for the season. Team: Liam, John, Martyn, Joe (c), Jordan, Dan, Jack, Aaron, George, Reece, Kieran, Krysz, Matt, Mike.

MoM: Everyone had a stormer but it goes to Krysz and Aaron in centre midfield second half. Aaron pressured them every time someone got the ball and notched whilst Krysz stuck to their play maker and was superb going forward.

Wojtowicz will be sorely missed

Outstanding midfielder Ashley Wojtowicz is leaving the area later this month and his last home game in the Green shirt is likely to be the clash with Thanet Colts  on Sunday.  Patron Dave Homewood told The Green Lane: “Ashley has been a model of professionalism and loyalty and was a certainty for senior football prior to this news. I am sure he will always regard Bromley Green as his footballing home. We all wish Ash every success in the next chapter of his  life”.

U16 Manager’s preview

Squad Sunday.

Liam – John – Martyn – Joe (c) – Jordan – Dan C – Jack – Aaron – Reece – George – Kieran – Mike – Kryzs – Ash

Sunday sees us travel to top of the table Betteshanger. After a narrow defeat in our first game the boys have really stepped it up over the last 2 weeks and our results are evidence of that. We shall look to carry this momentum with us into the Betteshanger game and attempt to shake this league up. We caught a glimpse of Betteshanger in pre season and with all due respect I know that we as a squad are capable of bring three points back to Ashford. Once again it has been a tough week – 6 players not making the squad in what is a very competitive group. In the end my choices have been based on a top performance last week and stand out performances this year. So Ash comes in for the impressive (and very unlucky not to stay in the squad) Matt Jarvis and everyone else keeps there place. Jamie is still on Holiday and Adam is available once more so the competition for places is seriously there. Yet to make an appearance this season are Marcus Dalby and David Webb – I thank them both for their patience and ensure them that their time will come. If we play the football we played last week and hold firm at the back to the inevitable aerial attacks I am confident we can climb into the top 2 by the end of this week. So should all the boys be.

Manager’s report to The Green Lane…

GREEN’S GREAT CUP  WIN IN RAMSGATE

Hi Dave,

Can you put this on website please

NO U16S TRAINING THIS WEEK. I WILL CALL YOU ALL ABOUT SUNDAY –  CRAIG

Match report below

This was a fantastic performance from the boys in the first round of the cup. They prooved this weekend that they can take the game to teams and punish them. One of the most pleasing aspect was the patience the boys showed.

We took the game to Ramsgate straight away. A combination of short sharp passes and through balls created a lot of chances. If it weren’t for Ramsgates keeper the game would have been over before half time. A magnificent stop denied Kieran from 20 yards and the keepers dominance of his area thrawted many attacks. On 35 mins we had the ball in the net through Mike Smith only for the increasingly influential linesman to rule it offside. The introduction of George Wall was key as he first forced the keeper to save and then smashed against the post. Credit must be given to Liam, John, Martyn, Joe & Jordan who stayed alert at the back and kept them at bay.

Key word at half time was patience. We were in control and if we played with a little more quality in the final third we would win. Matty Jarvis came close twice and was getting himself in good positions, Liam then was clever to stop an attack with his feet outside the area. Just past the hour mark Jack Blowers opened the scoring. A lightening run by Dan Churchley for 60 yards was bettered by his delivery which fell to Jack to smash home. The gates opened after this. Kieran lobbed the keeper only to see his effort bounce 1yard from goal and hit the bar. He got his reward for his persistance 5 mins later when he took on two and finished from a tight angle. George who was becoming very influential broke from midfield and smashed it through the keepers legs, Mike Smith playing at right back won a massive 50:50 on the halfway line which sent Kieran through to slot home his second. 5 mins later a great run from Jack was halted unfairly in the area. Kieran stepped up to complete his hat-trick sending the keeper the wrong way.

It was just as pleasing to keep a clean sheet and show our discipline.

Fantastic from all 14 boys and once again a superb turn out by the parents and from Paul. I thank you all for your lifts and support.

Team: Liam, Martyn, Reece, Joe (c), John, Jack, Mike, Aaron, Jordan, Dan, Kieran, George, Krysz & Matt.
MoM: Kieran Hawkins – scored three missed a few but was always there to have those chances! Great display!

Hi Dave,

Sundays preview below

Sunday sees us compete in the Cup against Ramsgate Youth Colts. As the 4th promoted team last year we even things out in the Div 3 cup and therefore we will be the scalp all those teams are chasing. However with professional performances we have a real chance of Silverware.

The boys can be bouyed by an excellent victory last week and we shall be looking to take the confidence from that into Sundays game. George Wall and Jordan O’ Gorman bolster our squad from last week whilst we lose Jamie Hurst, Adam Jeffrey and Ash Wojtowicz to prior engagements.

The boys have prooved their desire two weeks running when we were considered underdogs now they have to proove they can take the game to teams which I know we can do.

Again a huge thanks to those parents watching and driving. To a win Sunday!

Green grab their first win

Hawkins and Dalby on target in tight derby affair

Bromley Green 2 Ashford Borough 1

After going a goal down, the Green fought back to level through Kieran Hawkins and snatch maximum points when defender Martyn Dalby thumped home in a goalmouth melee following a corner. Here Craig Smith talks to The Green Lane about Sunday’s important league win …

The under 16s brightened up a dark Sunday with a fantastic derby victory over Ashford Borough. Firstly I want to thank Matt Hadlum who refereed (The town where John Roffey is living is very lucky) also a massive thanks to Peter Moore of Ashford Borough who is a credit to ABFC and who understands the tribulations of this league also. The game started well for us. Learning from last week we immediately went to play in their half as opposed to our own. We controlled the pace of the game and Liam was left pretty quiet. They however began looking dangerous on the break and after we lost Adam Jeffrey through injury they took the lead. To the boys credit they responded well. A Usain Bolt like run by Dan Churchley was met by Kieran on the volley which just drifted wide. (just who is quicker out of those 2?) Reece Murrell smashing the bar from 35 yards. We then lost captain Joe Barton for the last 10 minutes of the first half with a recurring ankle problem. At this point I wanted to hold out. Some reshuffling put the versatile Jack Blowers at the back and we saw in the half. The boys were told to keep pressing. ABFC were playing on the counter and with better quality in the final 3rd we could get back in this. Kryszsyof had a one on one saved instinctively by the keeper and it looked like it may not be our day. Aaron, who influenced the game from the middle played a lifted ball in behind their defence and Kieran managed to bring the ball down to his left to smash home the equaliser. Justified for us and for the work Kieran had put in. Just 5 minutes later we scored again. This time on his right Kieran forced the keeper to save and Jacks corner after a scramble was lashed home by Martyn Dalby. Again no more than we deserved. Borough pressed us for the last 15. Some desperate defending saw us through. Reece clearing be ball frequently, John showing what he could add to the defence and Joe and Adam returning despite injury to see us through! A well deserved win. Team: Liam, Adam, Reece , Joe (c), Jamie, Mike, Aaron, Ash, Jack, Dan, Kieran, Martyn, John and Krysz. MoM – a bit of a tough one this as great performances by so many. Joint award to Ashley who sat in front of the back four and man marked their danger man so well and Joe Barton who made some super tackles and dominated in the air.

Joe Barton who tackled well despite his injury

Happy birthday!

Lots of birthdays lately, Ashley’s last week and Dan’s this week. Birthday wishes from everybody at the club.

Hi Dave, Please find below a look ahead to Sunday’s game

Sunday sees us in another local derby this time hosting Ashford Borough. Both sides lost last week so it is crucial for both teams to get on the board. Ashford Borough lost a tight affair 5-4 to Betteshanger whilst we also lost in a tight one 3-1. I have seen Betteshanger play and feel that we can compete with them so I expect to compete Sunday. We are bolstered by the return of Ashley Wojtowicz and George Wall. We have a strong 15 man squad and once again it was extremely dificult telling 5 players that they hadn’t made the squad. Their chance will come, those in the squad now no they have to proove themselves. I’m confident this week and so should the boys be. Let’s get our points tally rolling. With the squad we have we can compete with anyone in this league. Craig

Under 16 squad for Sunday’s home game with Ashford Borough

Liam Wratten, Jamie Hurst, Martyn Dalby, Joe Barton (c), Reece Murrell, Adam Jeffrey, Kryz Pierzchala, Ashley Wojtowicz, Aaron Neil, Jordan O’ Gorman, Jack Blowers, Mike Smith, Dan Churchley, Kieran Hawkins, George Wall Will players please text Craig confirmation that they have the details for Sunday Those not selected, I have spoken to you all and hope you realize that competition for places is strong. I urge you all to keep plugging away as your chances will come. Also we are having squad photos this week so I hope to see you all there.

1pm meet at our ground versus Ashford Borough

Craig Smith sends his match report for yesterday. Bromley Green can be very proud of their youth teams efforts this weekend after a hard fought 3-1 defeat to Kennington. Also a fantastic turn out by the non playing squad and parents. All of you I thank you and hope to see you next week. There is only 1 thing I can criticise in the game and that is our own sloppiness as we gifted Kennington a 1-0 head start. We overplayed from the kick off and a stray pass was intercepted and duly converted. Pre season saw us drop our heads in this situation but not this time. We took the game to Kennington and for half hour we were barely troubled. The pace of Kieran and Dan looked like it was troubling the home side but we failed to play to their strengths and left them challenging in the air to often. We had spells of super football and with this, especially in the second half we opened them up. On 29 minutes a huge kick from Kenningtons keeper was met by their forward ad it dropped between our defence and a stranded Liam. Lesson learnt Reece, Joe and Lian cleaned the rest of these up all game. Some great skill and a superb cross from Jack found Smithy 2 yards from goal to header home. 2-1 at HT we had a shot. Our football in the 2nd half was great. On three occasions we opened them up and their keeper, who was excellent, saved from Smithy, Kieran and Jordan. We pushed hard for the equaliser yet with 5 mins to go were caught on the break. Cruel on Liam who had made some good stops. At 2-1 we had a stonewall penalty waved away, but for this we would have some points. The whole team played well, special mentions to Joe Barton who prooved why he is captain. The responsibility he took on Sunday before and during the game was top draw. Also to debutants, Kieran, John, Adam, Liam and Mike. Managers MoM: Jordan O’ Gorman

GREEN TACKLE LOCAL RIVALS IN OPENING LEAGUE FIXTURE

Tonight’s text from the Under 16 management…

Hi Dave,

U16s preview for Kennington game. This Sunday sees my first competitive game with the U16s. My overriding feeling at the moment is excitement. We have had a tricky pre-season against teams from higher leagues but now we can get started. The club as a whole has gone through a big change this summer and Tony and I aim to start as well as all the 4 senior sides. Kennington will prove tough opponents. We are in a new league and many clubs would love the set-up Kennington Juniors have. Our squad though is strong. We now have a 20-man squad and real competition for places. The squad we travel with Sunday are the ones who have the chance to get us off to a flyer. Those left out are snapping at their heels for their places. If we show commitment, discipline and play a high tempo football game like against Betteshanger we will earn 3 points. I hope to see plenty of support from parents and the club at Ball Lane Hockey Club. 2pm ko. A special mention to our sponsor Vicky’s Guest House – we will be wearing our new kit on Sunday. Also happy birthday to Ash who is 16.

Bromley Green 0 Folkestone Invicta 6

Despite the scoreline, Craig and Tony were full of praise for the effort put in by the boys on Thursday night against another well-established and larger Mush League side that made us pay for hesitancy and indecision in crucial situations. Terrific performances from Jack Blowers (below), Aaron Neil and Ashley Wojtowicz covered the cracks with Kieran, George and Jordan all away but credit to all the squad. Report to follow from Craig…
