Bromley Green 2 – 6 Kennington
A break in the weather allowed me to finally take charge of the Sunday first team. With the squad shrinking over night, the task for the day was always going to be tough. Within 10 minutes – the scale of the long term task became evident!
A sloppy start, coupled with a lack of fitness as well as a lack of confidence, saw us concede three very quick goals – all of which were preventable. After going through the moaning stage, and then the self pity stage, we began to settle and started to compete. An exchangeof opinions during the break seemed to work as we began the brighter side. The reward came through Kev Barrett, slotting home to round off some good play from midfield. We continued to impose ourselves and our visitors suddenly had to work against us. The come back never quite lasted though as Kennington pounced on an error at the back to regain the three goal advantage.
In fairness, we continued to battle in some areas, yet struggled in others. A couple more avoidable goals hit our net, with a superb headed goal from Glenn Mackett in between them gave us a full time of 2-6. Kennington’s display thoroughly deserving of a place in the semi final and we wish them luck.
As for Green – well there’s lots to do – and a website is not the place to highlight my concerns. It is, however, the place to recognise the plus points from today. They include the solid display and attitude from BJ at the back, the work rate offered by Robbie Greenfield through the middle, and the Man of The Match Kevin Barrett – who showed great effort and quality.
My thanks go to all for their efforts as we look to next week, where we hope to have some more options available to us, as we welcome Kennington back for a league clash.
