| Craig reports on the final game: Sunday saw the climax of our season and we disappointedly bookmarked our season with a loss at the beginning and a loss at the end! That being said – everything in between was brilliant.Easteners welcomed us onto the field with a round of applause for us securing runners up. Our thanks go to them.I want to get the dissapointing things out the way. We were let down by people not turning up! all season we have had 20 man squad and I struggled to 12 this week – If i had known then fair enough but it is disrespectul to those who were there that I wasn’t informed. I won’t hold grudge- we will move on but all need to know it is not acceptable!
The game was played in good spirit. Easteners – who I feel are one of the better teams we have played all year – were fired up and really took the game to us. They created oppourtunites and scored with a fantastic finish. We rarely threatened but when we did the visitors number 1 was up to the task. Our make shift back four of Adam,Jamie,Martyn and Aaron were put under pressure and for the most part performed well but Easteners fluid passing allowed them to attack regulaly. We were dealt a blow when the pitch decided to rip half of Martyns leg off and as he was receivng treatment more round pegs in square holes at the back were required. Credit where it is due though as all my players worked hard. Easteners 1 goal advantage could have been 2 or 3 – they were good and forced me into changing our shape. I decided to play with the positions I had – changing to 3-5-2 and attacking. After the break we scored instantly – Reece Murrell lobbing the advancing keeper and we needed to kick on from this. Easteners however showed great resolve and re took the lead. The game went from end to end in the second half but it was the visitors who had the clearer oppoutunites – Liam saved well a few times. As time ran out we played 3-4-3 and hit the post in the last minute but to be fair it would have been a point stolen. The game was a tribute to two teams who respect each other and who play football. We weren’t at our best but part of the reason for that was the pressure we were being put under my easteners so congratulations to them. So the end of a good season. League runners up and at bareing in mind we were promoted from 4th last year that it a great achievement. We will now have a couple of end of season friendlies and look to enter some tournaments so we can end our season in line with the senior sides. Well done boys for a good season: Team: Liam,Martyn,Adam,Jamie,Aaron,John,Dan,Krysz,George,Marcus,Kieran(C),Reece |
