The weekend as it unfolds…

Sheber semi beckons but Harvey give us a fright

An entertaining cup tie at the Swan Ground on Sunday morning eventually swung the Green’s way…but what a battle William Harvey put up before extra time provided a winner. The Green, nicking it 5-3, ended with ten men after Reece Hagger had seen red. Phil Wedge now prepares for a semi final on 12 April. The Green goals came from Charlie Clark (2),  Ashley Webster, Richard Floyd and an unfortunate visiting defender.

The Kent County League rep side went down 6-0 tonight (Saturday) away to the Guernsey Senior League. The Green only had one game today, with the seconds at home to bottom side APM Mears Reserves, and amazingly the visitors gained their first away win of the season with a 3-2 scoreline. After being 3-0 behind, there was a home fightback with goals from Tom Poyner and Ashley Webster but it was too little too late. Things became worse with yet another sending-off for Tommy Lockett. Elsewhere, congratulations are due to Dover whose 6-0 thumping of Sutton secured the Ryman Premier title. Over the years we have had good relations with Dover, particularly some fascinating adult and youth friendlies, and it is good to see football thriving again at Crabble. Back to the County League where an Ollie Finch score was not quite enough for Kennington who went down at home 2-1 against second placed AFC Sheppey in Division One East. Lydd Town meanwhile, despite a change of management, continue to struggle with a 3-0 home setback against Staplehurst Monarchs and a 15-0 roasting for the seconds away to Platt United Reserves. Kennington Reserves however continue to impress, gaining a 1-1 away draw with Bearsted Reserves. More news as it arrives.  Looking forward to the morning, Phil Wedge knows his only chance of silverware this term is the Sheber Cup and he will again place his faith in a mixture of youth and experience as William Harvey are the visitors to the Swan Ground for a quarter final tie. The Sunday Reserves manager is without the injured Chris Burden and James Major while Nick Owen has family commitments and misses the tie. Definitely in the squad are youngster Aaron Neil and the in-form Lee Milton.
