Ashford Charity Trophy ties all away!

Once again the Saturday Reserves have had a lousy draw in the Ashford Charity Trophy, coming out of the hat away to local rivals Kennington. Should we come through that one, another away tie awaits at old friends New Romney. The Sunday firsts are away to Ashford Victoria and if successful will be, yes you’ve guessed it, away to the winners of Appledore or Wye Monarchs in round two.

Monday night snippets

More photos to follow but a quick update on Monday night (29 June)

The boys won 8-0 in the 6-a-side competition tonight to make it three wins on the trot. Don’t forget it is the quiz this Saturday evening at the ground and on Sunday morning there is training and a bar-b-q. Items for the Boot Fair and 50-50 Auction can now be donated. Next meetings are on 6 July at the ground with the Executive at 6.30 and the General Management Committee at 7.30.

At the end of his first full season with the club, midfielder Robbie Greenfield picked up the Sunday first team player of the year award – voted by the players themselves. Mr Consistency and with a sprinkling of vital goals, Robbie is an ideal model of behaviour and attitude for other young players. Here we see Robbie pictured with Maxine Smith.

Character George enjoys awards night

19 June 2009 G Stafford and TS Memorial CupFifties star George Stafford, brother of Jack and the late Tommy, is still a character and we hope this is not his last visit from Sydney. Here George is seen holding the prestigious Tommy Stafford Memorial Cup for Youth Clubman of the Year. While George was able to make it from Down Under, Munch missed the 2 o’clock train from Yarmouth! Never mind, Jamie is a deserved winner for his good attitude towards the club and the cup was received on his behalf by his father Del Boy.

An unfortunate injury kept Reece Hagger out of the Sheber Cup final but the club rewarded him with a special youth award for the tremendous progress he had made throughout the season. The coming season will be a big one for Reece who was in imperious form for the Sunday firsts before getting crocked.

Caption competition

19 June 2009 Lee Milton and Craig SmithFor a free pint [or pot noodle for those under 18!] just for a laugh, think of a caption to accompany this photo of Lee Milton and Craig Smith at the awards night 19 June 2009.  Click on ‘Comment’ and type in your entry … it is as simple as that. Closing date is Saturday 4 July and the winner will be announced at the quiz night.

Winner: Kelly, who probably will not be over-enamoured with either a beer or a pot noodle, so we will let her choose her prize!
