Saturday Cup draws

In the Les Leckie Cup first round the Green have been drawn away to Staplehurst on 17 October and if we win there is a trip to either New Romney or Lanes End in round two on 5 December. After receiving a bye in the Inter-regional Cup, we face Hollands & Blair at home in the second round on 14 November. The reserves have been drawn away to Borden Village in the first round of the Eastern Reserves Cup on 10 October.

Wednesday morning snippets…

We extend a warm welcome to all of our new signings, some of whom will be appearing in this weekend’s reserve games at the Swan Ground. Full details of the arrivals will follow in the next few weeks.

Congratulations to Gary Mickelborough who came on as a substitute and hit a hat trick on his home debut for Ramsgate (3-2 against Great Yarmouth) on Saturday

Monday night saw a first defeat for the six-a-side lads, 3-2 after being 2-0 up. Further details awaited.

Good to see Lee Gilham and Joe Misfud back in training after lengthy injury lay-offs.

Pre-season line up is finalised

Nutfield FC to visit on 15 August

The busy pre-season friendly programme is more or less settled now with all the teams having plenty of opportunities to become organised for the approaching new campaign. Latest to agree to a warm-up game are Surrey Combination League outfit Nutfield FC, who will be our guests on Saturday 15 August for what will undoubtedly be a really stiff test for Ali Mehmet and the reserve lads. Kick off is at 3pm. Click on the Fixtures tab for a full list of friendlies.

Enquiry from Paul Carter

Our good friend and roving cameraman, Paul Carter, has sent the following request…

Dave: I think it was at the end of the season but I opened the back of my van as a guy was walking past he saw an old bike that I had in the back and instantly wanted it, I was only gonna throw it so it wasn’t a problem and let him have it as I had only bought it for the seat & handlebars, well now I have a better seat so if you think u can locate him (through the website poss/word of mouth) he can have the seat and handlebars back, he said his son played for the green that’s y he was there possibly the Saturday team or even the younger ones, I didn’t know the name. the bike in question was a blue Raleigh Grifter, made from the early to mid 80′s he knew exactly what it was so it shouldn’t be that hard to find him he was a more mature fella so I guess his son must be his youngest child or possibly a grandchild. Wilson: “I want one last crack at it”

19 June 2009 WilsonSteve Wilson, plagued by injuries in the past couple of seasons, is determined to have one last crack at playing and has signed on Sunday forms with the aim of playing for Phil Wedge’s reserve team. Speaking exclusively to the Green website after this morning’s training session, Wilson said “Obviously if I am picked for the senior side I will play but I think I can be more useful to the club helping the reserves. The injuries have been so frustrating but I want just one more crack at playing at a serious level”. Wilson, recently elected onto the Executive Committee as his playing career seemed over, came through the youth ranks and stormed onto the senior scene at a very young age, and will perhaps be best remembered for his Weald of Kent Charity final winner against hot favourites Hythe Town. Despite a successful spell at Great Chart and fleeting appearances in the lower divisions for Shadoxhurst, Steve has always had Bromley Green in his heart and now looks forward to one last chance of doing the business on the pitch. He could well be in action in just two weeks time as the pre-season friendlies get under way.

Green at home to Tenterden in Weald of Kent Charity draw

The first round of the Weald of Kent Charity Cup has pitted the Green at home to Tenterden. Some teams from all over the place seem to be eligible to enter these days; eg Canterbury City who, whilst it is great to see them alive and kicking again, can hardly be viewed as a Weald club.
