Weald of Kent exit

“Dissapointing” says manager Smith

That is the word to sum up our early exit to Tenterden in the Weald of Kent Charity Cup on Saturday, losing the game 1-0 was a real blow just before the season kicks off and although we played some good football at times, we lacked a real cutting edge. But there were good debuts from defender Micky Doyle and forward Linton Hayles
A couple of late withdrawals, saw the team go out not as I had wished. But we started well and controlled the game, a couple of half chances were spurned and Mark Howells was unlucky when his 20 yard shot hit the post. We reached half time at 0-0 and I stated that we needed to move the ball around quicker to open up the visitors packed defence.
We again started well, but still could not break through and were caught out in the 55th minute when a long ball fell kindly for the Tenterden forward who finished well. Changes were made but still we were misssing our chances, Linton Hayles forced a good save from the visitors keeper, but Tenterden remained solid and held on for a good win, despite all our efforts.
With the league kicking off next week, I expect a better performance from the team next week, I aim to stay loyal to the players who were with me last season, but if I do not get what I am looking for then I will not hesitate to make changes.
