Green old boys win it for Kennington

Wednesday night’s only Kent County League Division One match provided a close-fought affair at Ulley Road that saw the Ashford boys take the points from a 2-1 win over visitors New Romney. Former Green striker Steve Harris set up another ex Green man Ollie Finch for the opener and yet another former Green defender, left back Marc Collins, made it 2-0. However Romney plugged away and, with the moaning from Lee Miles and prompting from Andy Read in midfield, came back to 1-2 and probably on the balance of play deserved a share of the spoils. However sound rearguard work by Sam Cridland and keeper James Hayden, who is retiring at the end of the season, kept the Blues at bay. Wing back Pat Law and midfielder Chrissy Howells, along with second half substitute Andy Davis, caught the eye for Kennington who will be disappointed at seeing Danny Barham leaving the stage injured.
