Green Saturday Reserves-v-Mersham is on tonight despite some surface water

MoM Chris Pearson in action against Mersham Res

The Green continue their warm-up games at the Swan Ground tonight against Mersham first team [details below] but let’s have a quick look at last night’s senior results: Dover win 2-0 at Ebbsfleet in front of 1131 spectators in the Blue Square South. Maidstone slump 4-2 at home to Hastings and Tonbridge equally flopped on their own patch 3-2 against Bury Town in the Ryman Premier. Mixed fortunes for our local teams in the Ryman South with Dulwich Hamlet beating Whitstable 2-0 and Ramsgate still without a goal or indeed a point after 185 fans left Southwood disgruntled following a 1-0 home defeat by Chipstead. Dare one say they still need our Gazza there! Better luck for Chatham [2-0 success at Merstham] and Faversham Town who defeated Walton & Hersham 2-0. A disappointing crowd of just 122 at Salters Lane however.

Brett Fewell: already a big favourite at the Green

The rain poured down on Wednesday as the Saturday seconds welcomed Mersham’s first team and another fascinating contest developed. Kenny Hallett once again proved what an enigma he is with two brilliant headers as wide men Ryan Fitzgerald and Jason Thomas caused havoc. Although the visitors pulled one back when Ryan Norman slipped, Brett Fewell, surely a candidate for man of the match, expertly chested in a third. The game ended 5-2. One Response to Wet Wednesday but Green win again

  1. I have spoken to Ernie Warren this week and this is the news.
Ashford Town owner Tony Betteridge has welcomed former chairman Ernie Warren back to Homelands as the club embark on an exciting new era.

Betteridge and Warren are currently putting in place a new off-field team in preparation for Ashford Town’s footballing return next year, with a group of around seven expected to form the club’s committee.

A Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Stadium Events Manager, Trustee, Supporters Club member and Press Officer will make up the committee, and it is a prospect that excites Betteridge.

“There has been much disappointment but there are promising times ahead,” he said.

“We want to put together a club that Ashford can be proud of and one that sits well in the community. The committee will help keep everything transparent and correct.

“I feel very passionately about rebuilding the club and getting it back on the road.”

Betteridge would also urge anyone who thinks they can help the club to step forward and lend their hands to the cause.

“We want to hear from people who can help. We are starting from scratch so anyone who can think of anything they can do is welcome to get in touch.”
