Green legend John Kelly reaches the big seven-0
Regular supporter, John Kelly, celebrated his seventieth birthday yesterday and we send him belated congratulations. Our great friend, supporter and Vice President Bob Mummery, said the goalkeeping ace of the 50s, 60s and 70s was unable to watch today’s game against Great Chart as he has just had a [successful] knee operation.
“John would have loved today’s display, especially the contributions of the very young boys who were quite brilliant,” enthused Mummery after seeing eleven great goals, “… he intends to be back supporting the boys next week with Jack (Stafford) and myself”.
John’s record shows just 130 senior appearances, however he played for the best part of 20 years before accurate records were kept/available – goodness knows what the real figure is!

Young and old strikers bag four each for rampant Green Thirds
Visiting Great Chart were never in the hunt against a Green Thirds squad that continues to place the emphasis on youth and four goals each for new striker Jordan Hill and the experienced Terry Perk led the way to an 11-2 victory. Further scores from Martyn Dalby and Shqipron Ahmetaj (2) rounded off the tally with Ross Blandford and former Green man Paul Biggs on target for Chart. Youngsters Hill, Dan Harris and new signing 16-year-old Aaron Hobday demonstrated why there is so much faith put in them by the club as planning is already well under way for next season. Next Saturday the lads are at home to Riverside Inn. Managers report of the Great Chart win to follow.
