Tournament heartbreak but Green boys are lovin’ it!

Green boys won’t be beaten … lovin’ it at McDonalds Olympic Day!

14 July 2012 Green boys enjoying the McDonalds Olympic Fun Day at the Eureka Restaurant accompanied by Mascot Mandeville

Full marks to manager Tony Gawler and his wife Val for keeping the flag flying on Saturday after the bitter disappointment of the cancellation of the BGFC Juniors Tournament due to the state of the car park. Some of the boys re-gathered in the afternoon to represent the club and participate in our sponsors Olympic Fun Day at Eureka Park. At short notice, Harry Middleton, Ki Montgomery, Fikret Yalcin, Ryan Turner, Billy Gransom donned the famous shirt now sporting the McDonalds arches motif.

More pictures on the Youth Football tab. I know our good friend Chris Symons will be so proud that you all made the effort under extremely difficult circumstances.

Glum faces as a day of celebration and sporting fun with footballing friends across the county is ruined by yet another day of rain, rain, rain

The ridiculous laying of a thin cover of some sort of splodge cement by contractors on Friday afternoon with imminent rain forecast, just hours before our tournament, left the car park entrance a sponge. You could not make it up, could you! With it predictably piddling hard early on Saturday morning, we had no alternative but to postpone the much-awaited tournament and disappoint not only all of our own 100+ lads but also children, parents, managers and friends from far and near. As a by-product of course, we lost a massive amount of money in the marking of pitches, goals, wasted food etc. Whether it is feasible to reschedule for next weekend, we will see but already I know Ian Mace, Matt Coniam, Martyn Dalby, Shane Cowley, Jamie Allan, Dave Smith (firsts have a game), Steve (lates) are amongst those regulars not available for their duties. Anyway, I await instructions from the Executive and Admin on a quick decision before I make contact with all teams and their managers again.

After a year’s planning, our children’s tournament is scuppered by the dumb idea to lay a thin layer of grunge in the car park entrance on Friday afternoon!

TOURNAMENT OFF!
Sorry but a 5.45am inspection with it still raining has left us with no alternative but to postpone the tournament … we are planning on holding it next weekend … more details later … all teams are in the process of being contacted

Early Saturday morning … the splodge at the entrance to our car park
