Match Report v Dover Town

Bromley Green 5 – 5 Dover Town

We welcomed Dover Town to the Swan Centre for our second game against them in as many weeks and a rejuvenated Dover side pushed us all of the way and earned themselves a point.

Once again we started slowly – gifting the visitors a goal with some week tackling and poor possession of the ball. We hit back instantly – a master stoke of a pass from George Wall was latched onto by Kieran who knocked it passed the advancing keeper. In recent weeks this has been the catalyst for us to push on but Dover once again pegged us back. An error at the back punished us and we were again behind. Both sides were reduced to ten men after an unsavoury incident. Jack Blowers being the culprit for us. Credit must be given to the boys who battled as Kieran once again levelled us with a neat finish.

2-2 at Half time and we were playing as poorly as we have all season. There was a lack of commitment – We weren’t winning the 50:50s and certain players were not influencing the game at all.

Not learning our lesson we again gifted Dover a goal as they took a 3-2 lead. This was cancelled out by Reece who showed composure in front of goal. At 3-3 I wanted to push for the win and this was our downfall as gaps in our three man defence appeared and Dover made it 4. Martyn Dalby was now coming into the game and after the first bit of real football we played all game we equalised again as a 1-2 with Kieran was dispatched by Martyn. Again we continued to push for the winner. We finally took the lead with 10 minutes remaining after some good football out wide by Kieran and Martyn resulted in Reece bagging his second.

We were looking better going forward than we were defending and having missed a couple of opportunities to kill the game off Dover’s number 10 who had been flirting with offside the whole game broke through and made it 5-5. It was no less then they deserved. To add to the drama Kieran was hacked down in the area with 30 seconds to go but players may have obscured the refs view and we were not given anything. It must be noted that Jamie had a good game on the left.

A draw isn’t the end of the world. Ultimately it is still in our hands but we have given ourselves 4 tough games in order for us to win the league – we need to be at our best in all of these in order to win them. We must be at 100% in all of them! I am hoping for the boys to deliver now as this is a great chance for them all.

Team: Liam, Jamie, Martyn, Adam, Joe (C), Jack, Dan C. Aaron, George, Reece, Krysz, Marcus, Matt

MoM: Kieran – always looked like he would drag us into the game and his work rate was second to none.

Defeat of Hawks sets up local cup clash

Team chief Dave Smith reflects on the 2-1 defeat of Hawkhurst

There is no such thing as a bad win, so Saturday’s hard fought 2-1 victory over Hawkhurst,is a good result even if the performance was not the best and it now sees us with a Weald of Kent Charity Cup semi final away at near neighbours Kennington.

We started slowly and it was the visitors who had most of the possession, without really creating a good chance and it was in the last minute of the half that a good cross from Craig Norman was finished well by Dan Cornell to put us in the lead.

The second half was very much the same and it was no surprise when Hawkhurst levelled, from a long free kick not dealt with by our defence,in truth the visitors then missed a couple of golden chances,to finish the game off,but they were to regret not taking these, as direct from a corner Ryan Norman put us back in the lead. The last 15 mins were edgy but we held on for the win.

I do think the stop start nature of games being cancelled has not helped us get going since Christmas and the heavy pitches are very draining. But next week we travel to Sheerness for a real 6 pointer and we will need to be back to our best to come away with a victory.

Thanks to all the people who came to support and to Craig and Max for their help, sweeping the changing rooms and getting the goals ready.

Narrow Weald of Kent win for Green

Bromley Green 2 Hawkhurst 1

The Green edged a close tie with Hawkhurst at the Swan Ground today with a gritty squad performance. Missing a number of regulars, it was always going to be a difficult hurdle to overcome but we nicked it through scores by Dan Cornell on the stroke of half time and a Ryan Norman corner which appeared to go straight in after the visitors had deservedly equalised at 1-1.  Full details and match report to follow from Dave Smith. Phil Wedge reports on Sunday’s 2-0 victory away to Wye
FIRSTLY. Congratulation,s go to charlie clark and his girlfriend kerry on the birth of there baby girl early sunday morning . Hopefully this will teach chaz a little self control ?                                                                                    RESERVES IN CONFIDENCE BUILDING WIN.                                                                                           Sheer grit and determination pulled us through this game with WYE who put plyers behind the ball and frustrated the green for much of the game . But with MAJOR in control at the back and BURDEN back to his industriest best , it wasnt a case of if we,d score but when . And when we didi what a goal it was a great run by GLEN ROLFE and lay off to DAN JACKSON resulted in JACKSON smashing the ball into the top corner. This led to WYE being even more defensive ,which enabled us to start playing football and dominate the game ,WYE were finally killed off when man of the match BURDEN broke through the midfield to slot home no2 .The only downside to the game is worrying ankle injury to NICK OWEN.

Looking forward to the weekend

Fabulous set of fixtures…up to the weather now!

The fixtures for this weekend look full of promise and we can only hope for the weather conditions above and below to allow us to return to some sort of normality during what is a stop-start campaign.  First up is what promises to be a cracking Weald of Kent Cup tie at home to Hawkhurst. In modern day terms the Green have appeared in, and won, the coveted trophy more than any other amongst the big guns but two successive final defeats mean we need to set the record straight and succeed at the final hurdle.  We seem to go from inspiring to insipid and Dave Smith will be looking for the lads to give maximum commitment for what is bound to be a close encounter. Alfie, Trent and the boys go to Platt Heath United Reserves on the back of two desperately disappointing showings against Lydd and Otford respectively that has seen us slip from top spot. Two big games then for the Saturday sides and on Sunday it does not get any easier with the firsts facing a trip to High Halden where Brewmaster provide the opposition in the Ashford Charity Trophy, and the seconds entertaining Tommy Lockett, Joe Milton et al as part of the Galacticos squad.  Rounding off what hopefully will be a terrific weekend of action, the title chasing Under 16s are hosts to Dover Town in the afternoon.  The message is simple, as Craig put it: “Win our remaining five games and we are champions!” No pressure then boys…just go out and play and you’ll do it.  Now, please, some decent weather!
