The clubhouse will not be open on Saturday but everyone is welcome on Sunday for the Premiership deciders on TV … website will be updated as and when my computer and ‘Dongle’ cooperate!

Some of our youth teams have tournaments on Saturday so let’s hope for some decent weather for a change. Details of the 9s, 10s, 11s, 13s, 14s entries plus the U16s who go to Ramsgate can be found on the Youth Football tab.

In goal at Southwood will be Wilson who is pictured celebrating his goal of absolutely no consequence in last month’s Dads v Managers match.

Liam Smith will be in charge of the Bromley Green adult side that has entered the Corinthian FC Tournament on 20 May. Everyone is reminded that entry by Bromley Green FC into any competition, adult or junior, must be sanctioned by Dave Homewood on behalf of the Executive.

Happy birthday to Jacqui

The club extends its wishes for a happy birthday to Jacqui Thomas today (Wednesday). Training this evening at 6pm for the Under 14s and Under 15s. Clubhouse opens 5.30pm.

Tonight the Ashford & District Saturday League staged its Cup Final at Homelands between last season’s beaten finalists Rolvenden and AISSC. Editor’s update: The Den completed the league and cup double with the final score being Rolvenden 7 AISSC 0. The sides meet again on Saturday at Stanhope in the final league match of the season.

Belated birthday greetings to Jack Hollamby who was the grand old age of 10 on Saturday. Do drop me a line when birthdays are coming up as I do not have the database at hand at present and obviously information on very young players is not on facebook.

All the goals came in the first half of last night’s Kent County League Division Two East affair between Hadlow Evolution and Sevenoaks Town Reserves which was switched to Town’s Greatness Park venue. Hadlow won it with scores from Myles Lowden (p) and Chris Stoate while Sevenoaks replied through Benji Agana.

Happy birthday to Kenny Hallett and Tyler Montgomery

Two birthday boys today and the club extends its best wishes to Tyler Montgomery, who will be in our Under 14s this coming season, and the versatile Kenny Hallett who made a surprise return to the action in Sunday’s Charity Trophy Final defeat. Ty is pictured left while King Kenny is seen below going through the ordeal of the penalty shoot-out against Essembee at a sparsely populated Homelands.

Llama: “My proudest moment was being made captain”
Playing a huge role in the end of season revival by the Saturday Reserves, which saw six wins from the final seven games of an oft-stressy campaign, has been tenacious midfielder Tom Poyner. ‘Llama’, who has notched some vital goals in recent weeks, referred to being handed the captain’s armband for the 7-2 victory at Bearsted as his ‘proudest moment’. Tom also loudly boasted after the final Sunday Reserves match at Hornash Lane on Sunday: “I have had less bookings than goals scored this year!” Amazing Tom!

Thanks to those who contributed to the Autistic Society Charity Match collection which amounted  to £130 plus donations from senior club officers. If any others would like to contribute, I will wait until after next weekend before sending the cheque off. We are indebted to referee Jamie Hurst and all who worked hard especially Paula who did enough food to feed an army! Thank you again on behalf of the Society. Ian Mace and Steve Mailey put the sides together and some of the old greats were on show despite the cold weather that undoubtedly kept the crowd down this year.

Regular readers will have guessed … I am having nightmares with my Internet and Broadband! Please be patient! At present I am using a ‘Dongle’ on the recommendation of Messrs Smith and Moore and, despite not being sure where to stick this ‘Dongle’, it’s not bad so far. Cost me £15 to get it alive though Pony but never mind. There are lots of positives to report and I will do a comprehensive update as soon as things are running smoothly.

Before we crash again, well done to Nathan Pepper who scored 10 out of 10 in Saturday’s Sponsored Penalty Competition … after Sunday’s heartbreak, we need you in the seniors before too long! But more of that, and lots of pictures of the fantastic 3-3 draw in the Vets Classic later. Any photos from Camber folks please. Thanks for being patient. DH

Tuesday’s arrangements for U21s
Those interested in playing midweek for the Green Under 21s next season are asked to be ready to do some light training Tuesday and we will then have a chat to see how we move forward with squad building etc. Please report to Dave Homewood at 6.45pm for a 7pm start. Those aged 16+ who will be playing in the summer tournaments are also asked to attend and train [remember it is last year's age brackets that apply]. Our first one is on Saturday for last season’s U16s when we take part in the Ramsgate FC Tournament at Southwood. We can sort the squad out when training ends at 8pm.

A cruel way to lose!

After missing a hatful of chances, including a second half penalty kick, the Green ended up on the wrong end of a penalty shoot-out against Essembee in the final of the Ashford Charity Trophy. Perhaps the recent wet and cold weather deterred many supporters as there was a disappointing crowd at Homelands to witness a 2-2 draw in normal time. The added period failed to produce a decider and it was the dreaded kicks that saw Essembee leave the Green as beaten finalists for the second season running.

Division One champions Bromley Green Reserves rounded off their season with a 6-5 win away to Shadoxhurst, thereby ending the Dockers hopes of clinching second place. Kenny Lang and Martyn Dalby hit two each with Reece Hagger and Tom ‘Llama’ Poyner rounding off the scoring for the Green. Carlum McCloud (2), Mitchell Punt, Ricky Nash and Jack Scobie were on the scoresheet for Shadoxhurst.

There is everything to play for at the top of Division Two with Levins improving their chances after winning 4-0 away to Fox Sunday via goals from Danny Duffin (2), Zak Jones and Sam Bell. Burton Grove finish in fourth place after winning 7-3 at home against Highfield Reserves, who in turn will end up in fifth spot. James Ross (3), Barry Pithers (2), Vinnie Day and Pat Skivington notched for the Grove with Jack Griffin, Jessie Lee Jnr and veteran Keith Mason netting for Highfield.

Hamstreet Reserves, for whom Tom Wilmshurst notched a hat trick, clinched runners-up spot in the Third Division by virtue of a 6-0 win away to Ashford Spartans.Prince Albertcompleted their campaign with a 2-0 home victory overStourValleythanks to scores by Mark Kerry and Reece Prior.

Congratulations to Market who are the new Premier Division champions after beating Mersham 5-2 at The Ridge. Marcus Hodges (2), Dan Cornell (2) and Harry Hrehorow netted for the winners with Luke Stanley and Chris Holmes replying for Mersham.

Have to be quick as sending this from the a library computer due to my broadband internet being down for most of the week. To cut a long story short, it will probably be the best part of a fortnight before things return to normal.  But I will endeavour to pop in here and give important updates.

In the week, the Reserves defeated Lydd Town Reserves 7-2 in the final home game of the season which witnessed some strange officiating it has to be said plus Adam Mercer was sent off for the first time in his career.

Thursday, despite the miserable elements and mud and concrete, saw a positive ‘Meet and Greet’ with the Under 13s and my thanks to to Martyn Dalby for his help in purchasing, preparing and cooking the food. Nice to meet a few parents and relatives for the first time. That said, Tony and Martyn will have their hands full in the coming season with some of the lads!

On Saturday we have the Juniors Sponsored Penalty Competition which starts at 10am and the hope is that ALL youth players take part. I appreciate that some lads are unavilable on Saturday morning and some of the under 10s are in the Camber Tournament but they can take their spot kicks either when they return or on Sunday. The important thing is to raise money to buy new equipment and kits for all of the youth sides.

The Saturday Reserves complete their campaign away to Bearsted Reserves and there could be an early kick off at Honey Lane to allow the boys to return to the ground in time for the traditional FA Cup  Final viewing on TV [the Final strangely gets under way later this year].

On Sunday, the clubhouse will open at midday as we prepare for another cup final … this time against Essembee in the Ashford Charity Trophy at Homelands with a 2.30pm kick off. Sorry information is poor but I cannot access my Bromley Green hotmail account from the library!

Sunday evening has the best entertainment of the weekend when the Vets welcome Ashford Cavaliers Vets with a 6pm kick off. The proposed Cavaliers squad for the charity game; Ben Jolly (TBC), Martyn Johns, Kevin Friend, Tim Bourne, Glenn Chapman, Sid Rand, Carl Jones, Andy Dryland, Mark ‘Spud’ Smith, Steve Mailey, Jason Sterling, Mark Harris, Paul Carter, Jon Beeching. Andy Lowe & Duncan Garrett will join us if cricket gets rained off. The Green squad is pinned up on the noticeboard and includes legendary captain Gary Holloway, Micky Wylie, Tony Gawler and Jimmy Cunningham. Money raised goes to the Autistic Society and all are welcome to join in the fun.

Under 21 side will provide quality midweek experience
Plans continue with the expansion of the club and there are exciting moves as preparations for next season are now well under way. We will have eight youth sides competing in the East Kent Youth League and Ashford & District Youth Football League respectively and once again five senior teams all playing at their optimum level.
The local Sunday League have rejected our request for a third team, comprising mainly youngsters and not taking any player from existing clubs; but we may yet apply to a league further afield to give the lads experience. The club is keen to hear from prospective managers and coaches for all ages and levels and from diverse backgrounds that would like to develop their skills and fully commit to being part of our future. There is a buzz among the ‘older’ youth players with the introduction of a Green Under 21 side that will play their matches on an artificial surface under lights in midweek. A club spokesperson said today: “The Kent County Under 21 League is about to be formed and we are proud to be at the forefront of this new concept which will provide quality midweek competition for those aged 16-20. We want all our lads playing for our Saturday and Sunday senior sides and therefore have opted to play midweek along with about twelve other Kent clubs. The nucleus of the side, which will be managed jointly by Dave Andrews and Dave Homewood, is in the throes of being assembled but there is still room for a couple of top class signings”. With the weather putting paid to all but four games, and no games in the Premier Division, Troggs missed out on the chance to almost seal runners up spot in Division One by being held to a 3-3 draw by local rivals Egerton. Egerton at one stage held a 3-1 advantage with all their goals coming from Craig Haynes, before Troggs hit back to earn a point through scores by Andy Underdown, Danny Jennings and Paul Newman (pen). Shadoxhurst kept their faint promotion hopes alive with a 4-2 win over Market Reserves. Carlum McCloud and Mitchel Punt netted two each with Charlie Fitzgerald hitting both Market goals.
Just one game in Division Two saw Newchurch keep up their drive for promotion with a 6-3 win away to Highfield Reserves on the all weather pitch. Greg Hitchman (2), Tom Wilkinshaw, Darryl George , Ryan Geddis and Reece Fisher scored for the Marsh men with Mark Hilden, Connor Little and Jessie Lee Jnr on target for Highfield.
The one game in the Third Division saw promotion hopefuls Queens Head register a comfortable 7-0 win over Pilgrims. Mike Ward, Jack Holloway and Casper Floyd all scored twice with Jason Headeach completing the tally.
