Bay drawn at home in Carlsberg FA Vase 5th round
Herne Bay have been drawn at home to Larkhill Athletic in the last 16 of the Carlsberg FA Vase. The Somerset side play in the Premier Division of the Toolstation Western League where they occupy third place having won 12 and drawn 2 of their 18 games to date. The 5th round is scheduled to take place on Saturday 11 February. Meanwhile, the Bay take a 3-1 lead into tonight’s Kent League Cup quarter final away to Erith & Belvedere (7.45pm).

Corinthian secured the first Premier Division Cup semi-final place after a goalless draw at Fisher ensured their 2-0 first leg win was enough. Crowd at the Champion Hill Stadium: 110.

Birthday greetings are sent to flying wide man Ryan Fitzgerald who is 23 today (Friday). Ryan won the Supporters Player of the Season in 2009-10 and is the current holder of the Sunday Reserves Player of the Season.

The club sends best wishes for a happy birthday today (Saturday) to striker Gary Lockyer who is seen here celebrating success at the Green during the summer. Gary, who was a part of the treble-winning squad, plays for newly-formed Ashford United on Saturdays and is not currently permitted to play on Sunday mornings.

Last two survivors both drawn away

The last two Ashford survivors in the Kent Junior Cup, Bromley Green Thirds and Rolvenden, have both been drawn away as they bid to enter the full county draw. For the Green boys, who have to play in Group B even though they are a thirds side, a third round trip to Hunton Reserves awaits on 3 December. The boys have forgotten what it is like to play at Waterside … in fact some of the squad never have – such is the way the fixtures have panned out! Rolvenden travel to West Farliegh who overcame Leybourne Athletic 5-2 in the second round.

Dover part company with manager Martin Hayes

Dover Athletic FC has released former Arsenal star Martin Hayes from his contract following a disappointing start to the season. The side, which drew 1-1 at home to Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday, has in fact only lost two of its eleven Blue Square Bet South matches to date and sits in mid table with three wins and six draws.

Kent Sunday Cup (Junior Trophy)

In the Kent Sunday Junior Trophy three of the four Ashford clubs involved went through to the next round. Grasshoppers travelled to Cheriton and came away winning 6-0 with Shannon Hodson leading the way with a hat trick, and single strikes from Luke Webb, Ricky Bingham and Tom Morgan.  Newchurch also travelled and won 3-0 against Bull Fossils; Alex Smallman, Greg Hitchman and Jim Asbury on target. Marsh Athletic make up the trio winning 6-1 at home against Elvington Welfare Working Mens Club; Sam Lancaster netting four with Ashley Nelson claiming the other two.  Sandgate went to Bridge and, although holding the home side to 1-1 at half time, eventually went down 6-1. Peter Hill hit the Sandgate consolation goal.

Premier Division

In the Premier Division Market Hotel staged a second half comeback against Bethersden. The villagers, 3-0 up at the break with goals from Matt Goldsmith (2) and Sean Halls, ran out of steam during a second half in which Market rattled in six without reply. Paul Burt (3), Dan Cornell (2) and  Ollie Prior netted for the pub team.  Hamstreet and Aldington shared the points from a 3-3 draw. Aaron McGuiness (2) and Tommy Dawes netted for the Street with Ryan Norman, Alex Williams and Kevin Ruane responding for Aldington.  Bromley Green won 4-2 away at Mersham with Steve Harris, Danny Barham, Ryan Smith and Tad Greenfield finding the net. Mark Howells and Seb Arnold replied for Mersham. Kennington went down 4-2 at home to Brewmaster with Craig Brignall and Josh Conlon netting for the home side.  

Division One

In Division One Bromley Green Reserves move to the top of the table after a comfortable 6-0 win at home to Churchill Royals thanks to goals by Michael Hodges, Kieran Hawkins, Reece Hagger, Liam Holman, Jason Thomas and Tom Poyner.  Egerton & Pluckley United won their first game of the season by the odd goal of nine away at Shadoxhurst. Craig Haynes (2) and one each from Ian Hutchinson, Jake Symonds and Will Lawrence accounted for the Egerton tally with Carlum McCloud (2), Mitchel Punt and Scott Flanagan scoring for the Dockers.  William Harvey Inn and Ashford Victoria shared the points with a 3-3 draw after Hayden Slade and Gary Turner had put Harvey 2-0 up inside ten minutes. Josh Hatcher and Ben Williams levelled things up before Luke Walder restored the Harvey advantage only for Dan Christian to earn the Vics a point late on. Market Hotel Reserves went down 5-3 at home to Ashford Dynamo, who had Tim Eade and Charlie Gupp on target with two each and Sean Wallis with a single strike. Glenn Rolfe with a brace and Matt Moon replied for Market.  Red Heathens just edged out Appledore winning 3-2. Dan Pinder notched a hat trick for the Charing Heath lads with  Glen Raggett and Richard Foster on target for the Dores.

Division Two

Charing Sunday and Fox Sunday, who are both finding points hard to come by,  lost again this week.  Charing going down 4-0 away to Highfield Reserves who had Jack Griffin with two and Jessie Lee Junior and Conner Little on target.  Fox went down 2-0 at home to Wye Monarchs with Matt Sherwood and Jack Phillips the marksmen.  Ashford Cavaliers tasted defeat for the first time this season when they went down 3-2 at home to Burton Grove. Stuart Reakes and Danny Young scored for Cavaliers; while Barry Pithers, Sonny Ahmed and James Ross won it for the Grove.  The game featuring Levins and Troggs Reserves was abandoned after 55 minutes when a representative of the school said the game would have to stop for Health & Safety reasons due to the archery competition in the field next door!

Division Three

Still plenty of goals in Division Three, with 29 in five games. Pilgrim Seniors went down 5-4 at home to Hamstreet Reserves with John Marchant, Mark Hazel, Chris Burrows and Michael Cox for Pilgrims; Wayne Cleave and Tom Wilmshurst with two apiece and Dan Woodcock for Street.  Wye Monarchs Reserves went into a 2-0 lead against Mersham Reserves with goals from Sean Tong and Stuart Margetson but failed to hang on as Mersham came back with three goals to take the points via Colin Burkinell with a double and Barry Wilcox.  Stour Valley lost 4-3 at home to Prince Albert, who had Gary Boorman with two, Stuart Watson and Stuart Pearson on target; Ben Beeble-Rogers, Steve Beeching and Tony Spicer netting for Stour.  Albion Eagles won 3-0 at home against Givaudan, Jason Owen, Russell Woods and Darren Brown the marksmen.  Elsewhere Queens Head Rangers tasted defeat 3-2 at home against Brabourne.

Bromley Green v Staplehurst

Tuesday sees the start of what is sure to be the first of many midweek games. Staplehurst are our visitors which is real six pointer as they have taken second place in the league and had an excellent 5-4 win over Bredhurst on Saturday. We had a hard fought 1-0 victory earlier in the season in the Weald of Kent Cup and over the last 2 seasons all our games with our visitors have been close.

This really is crunch time now with 12 league games to go and no room for mistakes, it will be a hard period for all the players but this is where we want to be, challenging for a treble with our fate in our own hands, there will no doubt be twists and turns along the way and some exciting football to be played. It will be a case of taking each game as it comes, getting the result, and then moving onto the next challenge.

The squad will be tested and rotating the players to keep them as fresh as possible will be a key factor. But there is a real buzz in the camp and a belief that we can turn what has been a good season so far into a season that will be long remembered.
