Pamper Night a great success
Full marks to our Ladies who would not be beaten by the wintry weather and raised £95.50 from their Pamper Night. Special thanks go to Liza [left] who organised the event and everyone who turned up on a freezing cold evening and word is that the ladies enjoyed it so much that another one is planned for March.

The next fund raising event on the club’s calendar is the Race Night with Mark ‘Spud’ Smith on Saturday 24 March with the first race at 6pm. Owners and Jockeys are now on sale at the ground at just £1 each. Remember big prizes on the night if your horse does the business! Advance notice: the next Parents v Staff challenge match is scheduled for Good Friday and anyone interested is asked put their names forward now and to beg selection from match organiser Duncan!

Friday am: Maidstone and Ashford home games are already OFF

With a mass of pitch inspections going on throughout the day, we will update here tonight when the picture is clearer. However, already fallen victim to the weather are Saturday’s Maidstone v Folkestone and Ashford v Meridian fixtures.

An inspection of the Waterside pitches will take place at 4pm on Friday and Stan, Dave and Matt will be notified immediately. If there is any chance of action on Sunday, we will give it until midday on Saturday before making a final decision.

Saturday firsts preview: Paul Burt set for return from injury

On Saturday weather permitting we will entertain Charlton which is sure to be another real test of our title ambitions, Charlton hit sit just off the pace of the leaders still have an outside chance of winning the league so this makes there need for the 3 points as vital as ours.
Earlier in the season we recorded an excellent 2-0 victory away at Charlton in a game that was probably one of our best displays of the season.

Burt: returns from injury lay-off

With no game last week and training cancelled the players will be tested as there match fitness levels will drop as games get called off, this is where there personnel desire and commitment come into play, the need to give everything to every game becomes the most important factor.
The squad this week still has Rocky Hayles missing as he is unable to complete his ban until we play, Dan Barham injury is on the mend but not quite ready for this week and Marc Collins long term injury is improving fast and we all hope he can return to the squad soon, on the plus front striker Paul Burt returns to the squad for the first time since December.

Swale United Reserves v Bromley Green Reserves

We travel to Swale on Saturday with the chance to draw level on points with our opponents who currently lie fourth in the table. Our previous meeting in November was a bad tempered affair which saw us take the points with a 5-2 victory. We know it will be a physical contest and we will have to be strong but hopefully last week’s victory has rekindled our appetite. Robbie Greenfield returns after suspension, ironically secured after his red card against Swale. Ryan Strand and Ashley Webster are also available after missing last weeks match as is keeper Craig Mannering but Michael Hodges has work commitments.

Aldington v Bromley Green

Sunday weather permitting will see us travel to Aldington for a league game.  Having shared a good battle with Andy’s teams a few weeks ago, we know they will be looking to revenge their Bodkin Cup exit to us. We were due to play them in a cup competition last week but sadly the elements got the better of us. So after a break I am expecting a great battle with eager players after a rest.
The squad is going to need some chopping and changing. Dan Barham is still injured, and Gary Lockyer has to still serve a one match ban. Ryan Smith commences the start of his 3 game suspension, but  we are hoping to have Paul Burt back after injury.
There may well need to be additions to this squad on Sunday morning, if there are any injury or fitness concerns for this game then please can you contact either Matt or I (MANAGERS). The reason we meet at Waterside is so we can see who is available and if we need to can call up from the reserves. This does not work after we have travelled and made worse by not being contacted beforehand.
The provisional squad is as follows and players are to report at Waterside NO LATER THAN 0915.

Another night of inaction across the county

Tonight’s Ashford & District Youth League meeting due to be held at Sellindge has been postponed due to the dangerous approach roads. The new date is Wednesday 22 February at 7.30pm.

Dartford’s third round FA Trophy tie against Wealdstone has again fallen victim to the weather after a midday inspection at Princes Park. The match has been rescheduled for Tuesday 14 February, with the winners drawn away to Cambridge United or Guisley in the quarter-finals.

Mark Day, Shane Cowley and Andy Williams will be happy after important wins last night for Millwall, Birmingham City and Swindon Town respectively. Not much else to report on with this wretched weather causing mass postponements.

UNDER 10s TRAINING IS OFF TONIGHT AS THE MUGA IS COVERED IN SNOW AND THERE IS ICE UNDERNEATH. NEXT TRAINING IS THURSDAY AT 5PM. DH

THE CLUBHOUSE WILL NOT OPEN TONIGHT DUE TO THE CONDITIONS UNDERFOOT AND THE CANCELLATION OF ALL TRAINING. DH

Midfielder Mani is in good form for the Saturday Thirds and Sunday Reserves at the moment and has notched on four occasions  this season to date. See you at training without the new hairstyle Mani please!

With none of the leading sides in action yesterday, the top of the Kent County Premier Division table remains unchanged and the Green stay a healthy five points clear of the pack. A mid-table affair between Tudor Sports and Sheerness East ended 1-0 in favour of the home side. For results of the sprinkling of games that were played, please scroll down.

Gary Lockyer showed once again why he is such a big favourite at Bromley Green with a typical opportunist hat trick at Cobdown as Andy Williams reserve side won 4-2 to bring home three welcome points. Tom Poyner, busy at this wintry time of year with burying bodies, was also busy finishing off APM Reserves to complete the Green tally.

Hill: fabulous winner on debut

With Waterside frozen solid, the Green Thirds made the short trip to the 3G and came back from a goal behind to win their away match with Riverside Inn 2-1.

After former Green man Matt Wedge had put the Inn in front with 25 minutes remaining, the youngsters showed real character and deservedly levelled when centre back Martyn Dalby hammered home.

The script could not have been written better as debutant 16-year-old striker Jordan Hill headed home a picture book winner with about ten minutes remaining.

Harris: a great debut he will never forget

Notable performances for the Green came from skipper Michael Dryland, Liam Holman and another young debutant, right back Dan Harris, who was many peoples choice as man of the match in his first-ever adult game.

Jack Perreira was given the man of the match accolade for Riverside but for the Green the day belonged to the throng of young lads who showed great skill and application. Another sporting affair between two evenly matched sides matched by a superb refereeing display by the man in black Gary Griffin. Thanks to all the supporters who braved the cold, especially legends John Kelly and the ‘ball boy’ Bob Mummery who will have been warmed by the boys spirit today!

Only one other game survived in the Ashford & District League and that was at The Rype where Lydd United opened up a four point gap at the top of Division One by virtue of a 3-1 defeat of Riverside Inn Reserves.

Phoenix Sports leapt up to third in the Kent Invicta League placings with a decent 3-0 win over Ashford United. Despite the below freezing temperatures, a crowd of 141 witnessed a game in which United saw plenty of the ball but were lacking penetration up front. Alfie Harris (2) and Adam Cuthbert netted the Sports goals.

The only other fixture featured Erith & Dartford at home to Sutton Athletic with the visitors running out 3-0 victors.

Happy birthday Trevor

The club sends greetings for a Happy Birthday today (Saturday) to former player and manager Trevor Strand. Trev resigned as Saturday Reserves team chief at Christmas due to work and family commitments.

Weather threatens wholesale disruption
A mass of inspections this morning is expected to equate to a mass of postponements with temperatures below zero. Please scroll down for those in before 1.30am. All we can do is advise everyone to contact the respective club secretaries before setting off for games. The Bromley Green clubhouse will be open from 8.30am for anyone that wants a warm drink and social chat while we wait to see the outcome of pitch inspections. Not much hope, but fingers crossed!
