Under 10s training as normal tonight

Thanks to those who supported our own bar for the Liverpool v Manchester City game including Mark Smith, who is organising our Race Night on Saturday 24 March, and out of favour defender Ricky Milton (left) who not only enjoyed the cheap beer but also saw his beloved  Liverpool win!

Under 10s: training as normal on Thursday, start promptly at 5pm

After much speculation, Andy Pugh has finally left Welling United and plumped to join Cambridge United of the Blue Square Bet Premier. The fee for the ex-Gills striker, who has bagged 19 goals for the Wings this term, is believed to be £15000.

Stansfeld v Bromley Green
Saturday 28 January 2012
By Dave Smith
On Saturday we travel to South London again for a mouth watering clash against Stansfield. Our hosts have put themselves in the shake up for the title with a string of impressive results that includes beating Eltham Palace last week. Add there unbeaten home record and the task in front of us is huge but one every single player in the squad must be relishing. These are the type of games as players and manager that although being tough you have to enjoy, to be going into London to take on  a top side is a challenge but it is the type of challenge that all good players should look forward to, this is what the premier league should be all about, playing quality opposition and seeing where we are at as a team and learning form the experience.
Our first game of the season was against Stansfield a game that saw us record an excellent 3-0 victory with our visitors on that day being reduced to 8 men due to indiscipline.
This game is the first of 4 away games out of the next 5 matches they takes us to the end of February. This is my opinion is going to be the crunch time of the season if we can get through these next 5 games and still be top or very close then it will see us with only 5 games left with 4 of them at home and I feel this would leave us an outstanding chance of taking the title.
The squad this week is not as strong as it defiantly could be, with Rocky Hayles and Gary Lockyer suspended, Paul Burt is another big loss after his thigh problem gave way in last weeks warm up and Marc Collins is still recovering from his knee surgery. Adam Purse will rejoin the squad after a long absence through work and holiday and he will give good cover in several areas, so players missing  but as I always state we have a large squad for a reason and we will still travel with not only a quality squad but a squad that is capable of getting a result.
Squad : C.Smith, M.Hadlum, T.Head, P.Allan, M.Doyle, M.Collins, B.Beaney, D.Barham, G.Mackett, S.Harris, D.Cornell, R.Smith, S.Ahmetaj, A.Purse.
Players are to be the ground ready to leave on the mini bus at 12.00, please ensure that the club dress code is adhered to.

Bromley Green Reserves v Bearsted Reserves
Saturday 28 January 2012
By Andy Williams
This Saturday sees the first of three (hopefully more) important cup ties for the Reserves. We welcome Bearsted for the Reserve Division Cup quarter final and it goes without saying that we need to improve greatly on our recent performances .We faced our opponents recently and drew 2-2, with Bearsted equalising with the last kick of the game. We know all about them and they knocked out favourites Hollands & Blair in the previous round. We need to readopt the mentality that saw us through our last round tie when we came from 2 goals down to beat Canterbury City. Missing this week are Robbie Greenfield (suspended) Kenny Hallett (injured) and both Lee Milton and Kevin Quinn (work commitments) but returning to the squad are Ewan Stanley, Matt Gilbert, Michael Hodges and Adam Purse.
Kick Off 1.30 pm, meet at Waterside 12.15pm.
Squad: C.Mannering, T.Lockett,L.Smith, M.Gilbert, M.Hodges, A.Mercer, J.Thomas, P.Barron, E.Stanley, T.Poyner,R.Fitzgerald, A.Purse, A.Webster, R.Strand

Woolpack v Bromley Green Thirds
Saturday 28 January 2012
By Dave Homewoood
Having lost at home to Woolpack a few weeks back, we will need to continue last Saturday’s form if we are to pick up any League Cup points at Caldecott.
In recent weeks, for whatever reasons, the following have packed it in: Joe West, Lee Gilham, Jack Blowers, Tom Lynn and during the week Freddie Murrell. At least Joe and Freddie had the good manners to let me know; the others quite frankly are disrespectful and ignorant and sum up the selfish standards that pervade much of society today. Apparently the club, or myself, are not worth a text or a phone call. As I said, ignorant. We have also lost clubman Adam Jeffery through work commitments.
But we have new dad Kieran Hawkins available again and we will remain positive for the remaining fixtures and focus on those that do want to play and give their best for the squad. And I must say in recent weeks [eg Smarden and against Riverside] everyone has put in a great amount of effort. For this week’s tie, we are without Liam Holman who has to work but should still put out a reasonable line-up. Despite having over 30 registered players, I have looked at players in readiness for next season and could yet throw in a few more youngsters for experience as the seasons reaches its last lap.
Provisionally then the squad to meet 12.30pm at Waterside is:
Wilson Guest; Michael Dryland, Matt Coniam, Martyn Dalby, Jamie Hurst, Danny Illsley, Matt Illsley, Aaron Neil, Emmanuel Awuni, Terry Perk, Thomas Moon, Matt Jarvis, Andrew Possee, Marcus Dalby, Kieran Hawkins.
Anyone wishing to go straight to the ground must let me know in advance please. Directions: turn right at Evegate crossroads on A20, first turning right after main Caldecott building takes you into car park.

Mersham v Bromley Green
Sunday 29 January 2012
By Richie Moore
Sunday will see us playing the next round of the Bodkin Cup (Quarter Final) the week after beating Aldington in the previous round.  This will be a tough game and will rely heavily on tactics I feel after a tight affair in the league game played earlier this season.  But these are the games we look forward to as we continue to chase honours on all fronts.
Another strong squad again this week to choose from, and like last week we will look at fitness and injuries in determining our selection. Paul Burt is sidelined with injury, but we welcome back Mike Hodges after work commitments.  Following the game on Saturday, it is requested that players suffering any ill effects or knocks kindly let Matt or I know before we decide our starting XI.
Mersham have had some decent results of late, so we need to keep our game tempo up and play how we did on Sunday, retaining possession a little better but playing football the way we did will push us on to a good result.
The squad is as follows and players are to report at Waterside NO LATER THAN 0915.
Craig Mannering, Liam Smith, Ryan Smith, Micky Doyle, Tom Head, Mike Hodges, Dan Barham, Liam Holman, Glenn Mackett, Matt Collins, Ryan Fitzgerald, Gary Lockyer, Lee Milton, Steve Harris

Harris treble as holders Green go through in Bodkin

Hat trick man Steve Harris celebrates

Holders Bromley Green booked a Bodkin Cup quarter-final away to Mersham with a 4-1 win over Aldington. Steve Harris with a hat trick and one from Gary Lockyer put the Green in control with Ryan Strand replying for Aldington.

With the first of the seasons semi finals taking place it is Albion Eagles who will take on Hamstreet Reserves in the Division Three Cup final. Eagles just got the better of Queens Head, winning 2-0 with goals from Jason Owen and Darren Brown. The other semi final was even closer with Hamstreet Reserves winning 1-0 away at Pilgrims thanks to a Tom Wilmshurst second half penalty.

In the Premier Division, Brewmaster had to come from behind twice before winning 3-2 at home against Mersham. With the score 0-0 at half time Mersham twice took the lead with goals from Chris Holmes and Peter Shields while Dean Bate kept the Brews in touch. Chris Gillam and Justin Light scored late on to ensure the points stayed at Hopes Grove. Highfield for the second time this season got the better of Kennington in the league, winning 4-2 via goals from Lloyd Dehara (2), Paul Pettitt and Steve Wakam. Josh Conlon answered with both Kennington goals. Market edged past Hamstreet 2-1 with Marcus Hodges from the spot and Steve Ward on target. Tommy Dawes replied for the Street.

In the First Division, Shadoxhurst put last weeks Kent Cup loss behind them with an 11-0 demolition job on Red Heathens with regular scorers Carlum McCloud and Mitchel Punt netting four each and single strikes from Reece Long, James Everest and Scott Flanagan. Market Reserves won 6-2 away to Ashford Victoria; Matt Moon leading the way with a hat trick, two from Aaran Slann and one from Freddie Thompson. Phil Pearcey claimed both Vics goals. William Harvey returned to winning ways with a 3-2 success at home to Appledore. Kyle Anderson, Dan White and Luke Walder notched for the pub side with Bill Grist and Ben Light hitting consolations for Dores. Troggs and Bromley Green Reserves shared the points from a 1-1 draw with Richard Moon scoring for the Smarden based side and Ashley Webster on target for Green. Elsewhere Churchills just got the better of Ashford Dynamo, winning 2-1.

All the top teams that played in Division Two won without conceding a goal. Levins won 6-0 at Charing, after Dave Bourne had put them ahead with a header midway through the first half and Dan Anderson adding another before the break. A Danny Duffin goal and another fromAndersonwithin five minutes from the start of the second half virtually settled the game with Lewis Rae and another Duffin goal late on. Newchurch won away to Ashford Cavaliers 2-0 with John Carr and Greg Hitchman netting. Marsh Athletic won 3-0 at home against Troggs Reserves thanks to goals from Sam Lancaster (2) and Andy Cherett. The other Marsh side in action, Grasshoppers, traveled to Wye and earned a share of the points with a 3-3 draw. Steve Tutt, Andy Ward and Lee Bloxham were on target for the hosts with Ricky Bingham (2) and Martin Button replying for the visitors. Fox Sunday picked up useful points with a 3-1 win away to Park Farm where their goals were provided by Lee Gardener, a home defender and Chris Brett. Grant Langfield scored for Farm.

In Division Three, Givaudan played out another draw, this week against StourValley. Ricky Harden and James Bible netted for the works side with Scott Burden grabbing both Stour goals. Brabourne won 2-0 at home against Sandgate with Jack Stuckley nitting both goals. Prince Albert won 1-0 at home against Ashford Spartans with Mark Kerry netting inside the last quarter hour. Mersham Reserves went down 1-0 at home to Wye Reserves with Ryan Matkotore scoring the only goal of the game.

Green march on/Hythe win the big Kent derby

Matt Collins keeps Green on title track as Eltham crash to defeat
A single goal from effervescent attacking midfielder Matt Collins was enough to gain the Green maximum spoils from today’s home game with old rivals Sheerness East. The victory tastes even better with main title rivals Eltham Palace slipping up for just the second time this term, 1-0 away to Stansfeld. Top scorers in the Premier were Tudor Sports who hammered Snodland 7-0.

The Green Reserves, represented by just manager Andy Williams and Tommy Lockett back at the clubhouse, lost 5-1 away to Bly Spartans. Ryan ‘Titch’ Strand netted the consolation but a disconsolate Williams would only remark that he was ‘angry’ at the lack of passion and effort by most of his players.
The Thirds gained their first win of the year with a 3-0 beating of Riverside Inn in the Ashford League Cup. Aaron Neil put us ahead with a beauty from outside the box and two second half goals by substitute Terry Perk rounded off the tally.

Wells go out but Bay storm on in FA Vase
Tunbridge Wells put on a great show against highly-rated St Ives in the FA Vase fourth round but went out to an 82nd minute goal by Stuart Cobb. Attendance at Culverden: 404. More joy however for Herne Bay who made the long journey back from Newcastle Benfield as 2-1 winners thanks to scores by James Campbell and Rhys Lawson. Crowd: 138.

An oft-tempestuous Ryman South affair between Hythe Town and Maidstone United ended 1-0 in favour of the home side by virtue of a strike by Nick Barnes on the hour mark. Town, now unbeaten since their Christmas nightmare at Cheriton Road, had captain David Cook sent off during the first half. An excellent gate at Reachfields of 548.

Weekend arrives …

Happy birthday

The club sends wishes for a happy birthday today (Saturday) to Maxine Smith

Also to Michael Thomas … sorry Michael I don’t have a decent photo to publish … but have a great day mate

Another packed weekend of football both locally and of course in the Premiership with both the Man City v Spurs and Arsenal v Man Utd clashes shown live on TV at the ground on Sunday afternoon. We are also showing the Chelsea match at Saturday lunch time.

The action begins in the morning with both Under 10 teams playing away league matches: the Green boys are at Smeeth and the Green Colts go to Challock to face Pilgrims. Meeting time is 9.30am at our ground and the Player of the Match awards will be made when the teams are back afterwards.

There will be no complacency from the Saturday firsts who entertain old rivals Sheerness East at Waterside with a 2pm kick off. We may be sitting pretty at the head of the KCL Premier but Dave and Tony are well aware that nothing can be taken for granted in this great game of football. Whilst we have a reputation for entertaining, quite frankly all that matters now, in what is effectively the start of the run-in, is gathering maximum points.

Also at home are the Thirds who welcome Riverside Inn for a league cup tie that could go either way judged on recent results. There will be a number of late fitness tests, including Terry Perk, Matt Coniam and Emmanuel Awuni, but Aaron Neil is expected to return after being absent with a chest infection.  Definite non-starter is the unwell Danny Illsley. Kick off is 2.15pm.

Andy Williams [left] takes a strong-looking Green squad to Rede Court Road for the reserves match with Bly Spartans Reserves and he includes defender Liam Smith promoted from the Thirds along with youngster Freddie Murrell who showed great promise last week. Also making an appearance [between suspensions!] is wide man Robbie Greenfield.

On Sundays, Mr Williams is in the other camp as Aldington visit Waterside and another entertaining affair is sure to develop. Meanwhile, such is the competition for places in the seconds that Ian Mace has 18 good players to choose from for the trip to Troggs. Wilson Guest is again missing due to his Level 1 course which could mean clubman Martyn Dalby continuing between the sticks or a recall for Thomas Moon. Both Sunday games kick off at 10.30am.

Bromley Green FC joins the local football fraternity in sending sincere condolences to Sandy and family in the sudden passing during the week of Bill Blackmore. Bill is perhaps best remembered for his days as a no-nonsense centre back at Houchins FC.

Much interest surrounds Saturday’s Carlsberg FA Vase 4th round ties with two of our clubs involved in the battle for a place in the last sixteen. Herne Bay make the long trip north to play Newcastle Benfield. The Lions play at Sam Smith’s Park in Newcastle upon Tyne and are currently 11th in the Northern League Division One where they have played 26 Won 11 and Drawn 4.

Tunbridge Wells have a home tie against St Ives Town and the Culverden Stadium should see its biggest crowd of the season to date. The Saints compete in the United Counties League Premier Division where they currently sit in 4th place having won 16 and drawn 1 of their 23 games played so far.

With leaders Bly Spartans without a game, second-placed Bridon Ropes could close the gap at the top of the Kent Invicta League when they travel to eighth-placed Ashford United. But Paul Chambers has his squad firing on all cylinders and, with a seven-day approach for Spartans ace marksman Stuart Zanone believed to have been lodged on Friday, don’t rule the Homelands lads out of the title chase just yet. Former Lordswood striker Zanone, being eyed by many higher league clubs, has already notched three hat tricks since the start of the year.

Reports coming in from our roving man on the spot tonight suggest Renford Tenyue could be on his way from Canterbury City to join Ray Turner at Ryman League neighbours Faversham Town.
