Kennington TournamentSunday 27 May 2012Unedited report by Duncan RandallWhat a scorcher!!!!The sun was well and truly out as we headed to the Hockey Club for the afternoon matches and what a great turn out!! The venue was packed!!Both our U10 teams were ready to go and my focus for this match report has to be with the Bromley Green Colts as I did not have the opportunity to see the others play at all.Once again it seems we cannot start hard and fast in the first few games and we take a while to settle! Once the realisation that the end of the day is upon us the pace increases and we end on a high. If we can just get the same positive focus in the 1st games as we do in the final games then we will be winning many more games. In my opinion we lost the basics but these are all things that we as coaches need to develop and work on to give the boys the confidence to take through to the games but they do need to make sure they listen and apply whilst having fun (so much to remember even I struggle!)That said, considering the heat they all done very well against some very good sides that tested every part of our game. The losses were only by 1 goal and one of those was almost at the last whistle after keeping a draw for so long. The last game is the one I would like to highlight as we went out against one of the top teams of the league, Mersham. This was not going to be easy as we knew they were going to press us early on and the heat had been sapping the energy all afternoon.Trent and I made the changes and the boys went out fighting – It was a very close game that ended in a 0-0 draw but…… Bromley Green Colts in my eyes came out as winners as they kept there cool and played football, Jack was superb in defence and played one of his best games that I have seen, not once did he back down and his positioning was brilliant.Connor, Cade, Jayden, Beau, Kuba, Lewis, Jack, Billy, Prosper, ThomasA good performance from all. I could honestly praise each and every player but this time I want to focus on the one player that stood out the most on the day:Trent and I chose Jack as our player of the tournament and the boys agreed which was nice – well done Jack, fantastic!! Especially your last game in defence – we could not fault you at all!!!Whilst standing on the sidelines I am proud to say that a few coaches/managers congratulated me on just how well the boys were coming on in such a short space of time and that the work BGFC were doing must be good! Even one of the referees said the same after one of the games. What a fantastic thing for those people to say to me, we should all hold our heads up high as we get noticed by all. The Bromley Green name is well and truly back on the map at youth level and there are a few local teams that are obviously realising that.Belief is now what we need to take to every game!!
All the best, Dunk

Saturday 19 May 2012: South Ashford FC TournamentReport by Duncan Randall
Ian, Trent and I met at the clubhouse nice and early to greet the U10s and the parents so that the lads could get changed ready for the big day – none of us knew what fantastic results would be in store for the Bromley Green family that took the short journey to Homelands.
One thing is absolutely certain – it will never be forgotten by everyone involved!!!!!!
I will start with the Colts:
The morning started off slow with a 2-0 defeat against South Ashford and then a 3-0 defeat against Hawkinge, whilst these were not huge losses it was clear at the end of both games that Trent and I needed to make changes to try and find a plan that would work. We were missing an out and out goal scorer and I honestly think that with a little more confidence the boys could have got a few great shots on target but that one touch too many meant that the opportunities went by unnoticed. That said there were a few moments of brilliance and a few of the players shone through.
The next game against Dawes Hernhill Herons ended in a 0-0 draw and that was a massive improvement on the previous games. A quick team talk and a little change around took us into the final game and the boys seemed to have that hunger that had been missing……… a few minutes later and we had our first goal courtesy of Jack Hollumby and our first win of the day. For the record this win was against the ADYFL league champions Smeeth and Brabourne. This is no mean feat and the boys should feel over the moon with this!
Both myself and Trent were really chuffed with the end result – we finished 4th out of 5 and if I played this same team again I am certain that we could have won 2 of the 4 games with ease. Once again if we had started the way we finished it would have been a much better result! You boys just need to believe!!
The boys played a huge part in our team decisions making sure they were happy with them and understood the reasons why.
Credit goes to them as we managed to be awarded with the FA Fair Play Award in the way of a goody bag full of football bits and bobs – the players voted for there player of the tournament and it was decided that Kuba deserved this for his effort and commitment.
Connor, Lewis S, Malachi, Scott C, Lewis C, Billy, Jack H, Kuba.
Well done to you all – fantastic result.
Over to the Bromley Green side plaing in Group B……..
Curtis Hagger Opened the goal tally for the day against Park Farm Rangers enabling our lads there 1st win of the tournament – 1-0!!! A great start!!!
2nd game in saw the Green boys win again with a 1-0 score against Mersham with a goal from Ryan Harris – again for the record Mersham finished 2nd in the ADYFL league so this result felt rather nice!!!
3rd game in and a draw (1-1) with a great finish from Ryan Harris.
The final game of the group and all we needed was a win or a draw to see us go through to the semi’s – the fingers were all crossed as the game played out and Ryan managed to grab us another goal to end up with the draw we needed!!!!!!
We had done it – a semi final for the 1st time in 12 months – all the training and effort had paid off – we were all very proud of the lads and were happy if we went home at this point…….. but the players had other ideas, they could see the final well within reach and knew they could do it!!
South Ashford were our opponents and our super striker Ryan made sure of our place by giving us the goal we needed to win 1-0!!!!
I have never felt so much pride in and around a team as I did on this day, we had made it – the boys had done it, our first final, could it be our fist trophy of many to come???
The final saw us move pitches closer to the stand against Park Farm Rangers (who had beaten us at Camber) and the nerves started to show (from the coaches and parents that is). The team talk was simple, “enjoy yourselves lads and do your best”.
A game of throw-ins for what seemed an eternity ended in a 0-0 draw and the day would be decided on penalties – what a cruel way for any game to finish and we all now how penalties seem to go for “us”!
Alex – scored
Zac – scored
Ryan – missed
Jack – scored
Louis – scores (as a captain should)
More importantly Finlay in goal was awesome and kept his cool!!!
They had done it – the lads had won and they celebrated with shirts off being swung around in triumph and why not?
Emotion ran high through all the parents and coaches as we watched both the Bromley Green teams celebrate together – it was not one team winning but a club, a family and the future that had triumphed.
The medals and trophy collected we met back at the clubhouse for the debrief from Ian – an emotional one at that!!
Well done to all the boys for a great day that we were all proud to be a part of!
Finlay, Luke, Rhys, Curtis, Zac, Louis, Jack, Ryan, Alex.
The trophy cabinet has been opened!
Once again…. Happy Days!
Cheers – Ian,Trentand Dunk

The individual team managers have informed players of where to meet and at what time. Have a good tournament everyone and send me some pictures if you can … thanks DHTonight: BGFC Juniors 6-a-side planning meeting at 7.30pm. All welcome as we prepare for the event which will take place on 14 July.
Training tonight as usual but U12s don’t forget Jim will be taking you at the earlier time of 5pm.
All youth managers: the BGFC Junior Membership and Consent Forms are now in the clubhouse, so there is no reason why we cannot start getting them completed and signed by parents. They must come back to me as Youth Project Coordinator as the information is sensitive and will be lodged with the Welfare Officer. Thanks DH
Bromley Green FC Youth Tournament Application Form
We are now planning for our 6-a-side juniors tournament which is to be held on Saturday 14 July and, whilst invites have been emailed out, there may be some clubs who have slipped through the net (no pun intended). Clubs must be affiliated to a county FA and able to confirm their affiliation number. Clubs that don’t have the relevant application form can download it here:
Saturday 12 May 2012: Under 16s start well then fold at Southwood … Under 13s just miss out in the final at Wye … Under 14s get through to the semis … Report from U11s … Report from U10s
Saturday 12 May 2012: Ramsgate FC 6-a-side Tournament
The U16 lads started very impressively with a draw against Canterbury Eagles but then folded quickly in the second group match. The final game was close but we were undone by a penalty for a pass back … amazing how some referees are very selective about which rules apply! Although we did not go through, we need to remember that our only ‘senior’ players were Dan Harris and Wilson Guest with all the other lads playing against boys a year older. Lots to learn for most of the squad but some encouraging signs from newcomers Adam Heathcote and Brad Harris. Squad: Wilson, Dan H, Buster, Aaron M, Adam, James, Tyler, Brad. Thanks to Aaron Neil, Martyn Dalby and Thomas Moon for their support and Mark Harris and Dave Heathcote for helping with transport.
Saturday 12 May: Wye Juniors Ian Sloan Memorial Tournament
Today we had our youngest team (under 9s) at the Wye Juniors Tournament which is named in memory of the late Ian Sloan. Ian was a quiet man who did so much for the community of his beloved homeland of Wye in addition to contributing to the running of local football in general. He would have been so proud to see all the children freely enjoying themselves and I make no apology for paying tribute to him in these columns once again. A fitting memorial and … to the organisers today … well done!
Fantastic display by the U13s who came so close to winning this afternoon but just missed out at the final hurdle. The boys were up against some rather big looking opponents at times!
Results
Bromley Green 2-0 Hythe Stars & Stripes
Bromley Green 1-0 Smeeth & Brabourne
Bromley Green 1-0 Mersham
Bromley Green 1-0 Vinters Green
Bromley Green 0-1 VCD Athletic
The Under 14s edged through from the group stages before bowing out in the semis. So many played well but the work rate of Ryan Ford [pictured] gets him this week’s special mention. Another encouraging afternoon’s work with some excellent play and wonderful goals … well done boys!
Matt Coniam reflects on the Green Under 11s at Wye
A fine morning for once after all the gloom of the last month saw us arrive at Wye with a new squad, only a couple of whom had played together before. After the initial introductions and a warm up we started our games well with a battling draw against Bearsted with Danny Endecott getting what I am sure will be the first of many goals for the Green. We then drew with Brabourne and Smeeth with their controversial equaliser coming only seconds from the end this time Danny and Scott Cale were the scorers both with quality finishes.
The following two games against the two very strong and physical Margate Youth sides were hard going for the lads and we were not helped by some less than acceptable refereeing that saw 3 boys having to be helped off in the second game.
Next up was a tight game against South Ashford that saw both teams miss chances until the last two minutes when Harrison Eldridge scored what must have been the goal of the tournament, an absolute screamer from 8 yards inside his own half that gave the goalkeeper no chance of saving it. The last game against the hosts Wye Juniors was almost a mirror image with our team missing out to a goal in the final couple of minutes.
The full results list:
Bromley Green 1-1 Bearsted
Bromley Green 2-2 Brabourne and Smeeth
Bromley Green 0-4 Margate Blue
Bromley Green 0-4 Margate Youth
Bromley Green 1-0 South Ashford
Bromley Green 0-1 Wye Juniors
This was a good day for a first outing for the boys and it helped us to see what work will be needed to compete at this age group in the coming season.
The squad as a whole performed well on the day with Curtis Hagger plus Scott and Lewis Cale making a seamless step up to the older age group. Harley Mexter did well on his on-pitch debut; Dylan Trevett worked hard without too much reward this week but I am sure will have better days. Danny Endecott took his chances well and will score a few more in the coming season. The defenders George Hone and Harrison Eldridge were solid and did very well. However, player of the day for me has to go to goalkeeper Ethan Collen whose technique and bravery is far beyond his 11 years.
As I explained to the squad, Jim Cunningham will be assisting me for the coming season and he will be taking training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5pm from now on. We are also still actively looking for more quality players to join before the start of the ADYFL season in September so please feel free to bring any you know along to training.
Under 10 Report from Duncan Randall and Martin Wirt
After finally coming to terms with the lack of sleep we grouped together at the tournament and started our games, we knew what we had to do but it seemed a difficult task to wipe the sleep from our eyes and switch on! The boys kept the Pilgrims at bay and forced a 0-0 draw.
Second game saw us lose to Smeeth and Brabourne but only by one goal! 1-0. The boys were not quite with it, however Finlay was pulling out some superb saves.
The third game against South Ashford the boys worked hard and chalked up our first goal of the tournament netted by Ryan Harris. We then lost to South Ashford (1-0) and also to Hamstreet (2-0) and another loss to Pilgrims (2-0).
6 games in and we had drawn 2 and lost 4!! It was time for a team talk! It was decided by the team that we had to win some games and get some goals, it was hard to get them motivated but we managed to grab our first win of the day against Smeeth and Brabourne with another goal from Ryan Harris.
The next game against Hamstreet; I have no idea what happened as we should of been on a high and going for goals but not so, Hamstreet did well and took the chance winning 1-0.
The last 2 games of the day were in my mind the best, not only because we won them both and finished on a high but because we played great football and worked fantastically as a team passing and moving on and off the ball. We beat Wye 3-0 with 2 goals from Ryan and 1 from Zac, then beat Wye again with a goal from Kuba [pictured].
So out of 10 games we lost 5 drew 2 and won 3, what’s more we finished 4th out of 6.
The tournament was won by Hamstreet in the end and I cannot think of another team that could of deserved it more, well done.
A huge well done to all the lads today for putting smiles on both mine and Martin’s faces, it was a pleasure to be there with all and see how well we are progressing. The defence was solid with Luke, Rhys and Lewis, midfield worked hard with Zac, Kuba and Sonny. The forwards did there work well, Ryan, Louis and Jack. Only silly mistakes stopped us winning more games and there is so little separating us from from the tournament winners.
All we need to do is start all the future tournaments as we finished today, believing in ourselves and the team around us – starting hard and fast and giving 100%.
Martin and I had a chat about player of the tournament and the clear winner of this was Finlay who really did work hard in goal and was consistent throughout. Only 8 goals went past him in 10 games!!
Happy days!
Martin & Dunk
Saturday sees tournament action for all age groups except the U12s and U15s [last season’s ages apply remember!] who get under way next weekend.
Wilson Guest and Dan Harris [left] are the ‘senior’ members of the U16s who are playing at the Southwood Stadium, home of Ramsgate Athletic FC. We have a number of lads missing for one reason or another – so thanks go to Richie and the younger boys for making sure we go with a full-size squad. We leave at 8am from the ground and don’t forget to bring trainers/Astros, shin pads and proof of identity and photo. And get into the habit of bringing a fiver! Anyone who does not get into the action on Saturday [we can’t play everyone sadly] will be first to start next time round. Our revised squad: Wilson G, Dan H, Adam H, Ryan P, Bekim A, Shaun B, Aaron M, James M, Kieran S, Brandon O, Brad H. For those who are just too young, be patient, your time will come!
At the Wye Juniors Tournament, the 13s and 14s will be playing in the afternoon and the managers will have given all players full details. There is a morning start for the 9s, 10s, 11s with Ian taking the 9s and 10s and Matt the 11s.
If anyone has any doubts, please phone your manager. Details are on the Contact Us tab.
Good luck and enjoyment to all the players! And parents/coaches please get the odd photo or two please … many thanks

Everyone seems to have found last weekend’s Camber Tournament worthwhile despite the less than kind weather and some stuck-in-the-mud moments!
My thanks to Claire for the photos.
The next competition for the U9, U10, U11, U13 and U14 teams will be on Saturday at Wye. The U16 lads [using last year's age brackets remember] go to Southwood for the Ramsgate FC tournament.
Nathan is setting the pace!
Thanks to all those who took their sponsored penalties on Saturday … can managers make sure the rest of the lads please try and take them this week … I will give you a sheet that records the money paid in by each individual player and penalties scored. I can’t do it myself on Tuesday as I have to do the bar, sort out a thousand things and train the Under 21s. The forms have been out for ages and all the money goes towards equipment and providing all our teams with football. There are trophies and I will pay the £25 annual sub for the shooter that pays in the most cash in the three categories stated on the form. Definitely top of the penno pile at the moment is Nathan Pepper who netted ALL TEN of his spot kicks … well done mate!
Has anyone photos please from the Camber matches? If so, can you please ping them to me at dhomewood@yahoo.com
I will then publish them on the website … thanks DH

Despite the atrocious weather, what a great turn out by our new Under 14s for the ‘Meet and Greet’ with the Patron. Well done to all. Thanks to Aaron Neil, Martyn Dalby and Wilson Guest for their help. With our Under 15s also training on Wednesdays, to complement training on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, the atmosphere is starting to buzz again.

Youth Project plans for more teams
In addition to our two thriving Under 10 teams, we have many boys and girls that love training several times a week at the club. With this in mind, the intention is to expand our youth provision with more teams in competitive football leagues by next season. We are anticipating continuing with one Under 10s side, adding two Under 11s, Under 12s, U13s, U15s and Under 16s. The club is increasing its CPD activities to ensure we have qualified coaches/managers for all of the teams. All our staff involved with children and young people possess FA CRB clearance. All managerial posts have been filled but we would consider an Under 14 side as well if a suitable person put themselves forward.
The first trials for the new Under 16s will be on Thursday 29 March at 6pm. Just turn up with your mates and ask for the manager Richie Moore or one of the coaches [Ian, Aaron, Wilson, Martyn] and we will take things from there. Arrangements for trials and get-togethers for other age groups will be announced very shortly.
In August 2011 a few lads showed an interest in playing for the club and started attending training on a regular basis. Unfortunately they were too old for our U10s and too young for our adult sides.
Not to be outdone the lads agreed to get together a group of players with a view to entering a few tournaments, perhaps some friendlies and then enter the league next year. It is now a case of preparing during the summer for next season.
