New sponsors and management reshuffle as club looks to the future
* New squad preparing for next season in the ADYFL at U14 level
Our incoming U14s for next season will be kitted out in the club’s new-style strip, kindly sponsored by Trinity Flooring. The squad have already started training at Waterside in preparation for tournaments, friendlies and of course the September kick off in the Ashford & District League. Manager Rob Finn has moved quickly to add Conan Wyer to the group and has vacancies for perhaps one or two more players who can show commitment. Contact Rob on 07530098467 for further details or attend training at the ground on Tuesdays or Thursdays (6pm start).
* Under 12s appoint Lawrence Mason as new manager
What has been a disappointing campaign for the Under 12s has led to a realignment of roles by the club’s Executive Committee with Lawrence Mason taking up the reins as manager. Tomorrow’s game with Smeeth & Brabourne has had to be called off with just 6 players available. Lawrence has begun a recruitment drive for next season as U13s and is inviting any players interested to contact him on 07401506062 or just turn up for training at Waterside on Tuesdays or Thursdays 5pm start.
* Terrific servants to the club give up their posts
Two ladies who have given wonderful service to the club are relinquishing their roles at the end of this season. Karen Greenfield and Michelle Christian have been an integral and important part of the BG family and their qualities will be missed. Thank you both and, on behalf of the Executive, I do hope you can attend the presentation day as our guests.
* New challenge for Big Tom as McDonalds Little Ones get ready for league entry in September
Thomas Habgood has accepted the challenge of building the new Under 7s while likewise James Porter will be managing the new Under 8s. Both sides are sponsored by McDonalds and will apply to enter the local league for September. With friendlies and tournaments coming up very shortly these are really fun times for our 5-8 year olds and parents can gain more information by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Alternatively report inside the clubhouse any Monday or Wednesday just before 5pm when you will be made most welcome. Bring pads if you have them.
Under 9s [U10s next season] to enter the EKYL
More competition and variety for the Under 9s under Pat Penfold as they embark on a venture into the East Kent Youth League next season. It is understood the matches are staged on Saturdays which fits in with the club’s fixture structure and enables Pat to retain his coaching duties with the successful Bromley Green Valiants on Sundays.
Senior fixtures for Saturday
Ashford & District League (2.45pm)
Biddenden v Tenterden Town
Lydd Town A v Aldington
Rolvenden Reserves v Bromley Green
The Three Mariners v Smeeth & Brabourne
League Cup semi-final (2.15pm)
Willesborough Ath Reserves v Wittersham
The games in the club this weekend
On Saturday, Sid takes the rapidly improving Under 10s down The Avenue to face Grasshoppers; while Martin and the U14s ADYL lads have an extra training session at the ground at 10am. After lunch, it is off to Gatefield for the seniors to visit old friends Rolvenden Reserves.
On Sunday there is a tournament at Faversham for the BG Adult Valiants [meet 7.45am and please don’t make a noise or I receive complaints from the locals] and training for the younger sections at Waterside.
In the East Kent Youth League, Dave Andrews and co have a tasty home tussle with Faversham Town (2pm) and Sean and Carl take the U14s to Herne Bay [early meet in the clubhouse of 12.15pm please]. Both Dave and Sean can take one more player to Belgium in August – so contact them soon please or speak to Dave Homewood at the club over the weekend.
