Yesterday the U15 Colts faced our friends from New Romney, always a good game and played in the right spirit, a game I enjoy.
First game of the new season, new kit, new players and a new focus. We have a great team with some outstanding players.
League debuts from George, Deano, Miraj, Bailey, Curtis and Alfie and they all settled in nicely.
2 – 0 down at the break was not bad at all and we should have scored a couple of times. Goalkeeper Dan had to miss the second half due to injury but Deano stepped in and played fantastically – well deserved man of the match even though we finished up losing 5 – 0. Again chances in the second half were wasted but it shows we still have the opportunities to score! Good work, well done. Duncan.

Loyalty reaps its reward as Tom Messenger hits treble

Bromley Green 4 Stour Valley 3

Belief. That is the secret. While keeper Louis Burton has been a revelation this season, it was at the other end today where Tom Messenger did what he has done time and time again over the last five years … grabbing goals that can swing title races. That we are still in touch with the leading pack is largely down to a superb opportunist hat-trick by the versatile, loyal clubman; the all-important decider bravely headed home just before the final whistle. An honest assessment cannot see me go overboard as the first half performance, littered with mistakes and lethargy in some areas, was painful to watch; however, sooner or later we had to emerge from the recent malaise and in the final analysis we were worthy victors. Reece Chapman returned to the fold and drove in a marvellous shot at a vital time during the second period. Players not turning up, with not even the courtesy of a text, leaves a sour taste in the mouth considering the support they have been given … but the morning belonged to Messenger who, as the adage goes, ‘cometh the hour, cometh the man’. Stour Valley were always in the game and netted through Jordan Horne (2) and Scott Taylor. Great entertainment for the neutrals in a competitive encounter well controlled by Darren Whipps. Next week we have a huge test, away to Aldington; and how refreshing to have real competition for places. As usual, we meet at 9am. Dave Homewood.
