Congratulations to Ashley Webster on 300 senior goals

natural-hair-1On Saturday Ashley Webster notched his 300th senior goal for the Green. Whilst a wonderful achievement in itself, Ashley would be the first to encourage youngsters to stay loyal through the good as well as the barren times and success will follow. A 1-0 win away to The Three Mariners is not world news but we are through to the next round of the WKCC which is what matters.

U14s manager fuming at referee debacle

This club spends much time and effort in encouraging referees but occasionally managers will want to have their say if feeling hard done by. Rob Finn has submitted a report to the league on behalf of a set of players that were left disappointed by the official – who incidentally was being assessed. Here is the manager’s match summary:

“Today we traveled to Grasshoppers which is normally a close game. The boys started well and within 10 minutes went ahead when Jaden slotted home a pass from Conan. At this point the boys were playing some great football and should have gone further ahead but Brendan’s shot whistled inches wide of the post. Great effort but a mistake at the back cost us a goal 1-1.
And five minutes before the break Grasshoppers were awarded a penalty which was never one as the boy fell over Nathan’s arm as he came out to claim the ball. HT 2-1 Grasshoppers second half started brightly and Dre should have scored but shot straight at the keeper the boys kept pressing for the equaliser and another chance went begging when Conan fired another shot straight at the keeper. But the game changer came when Grasshoppers were awarded another penalty which in fact should have been a free kick to us as George was fouled but the ref somehow gave a penalty 3-1. That decision really had an effect on the boys and to make things more frustrating Gift was taken down in the box but nothing was given. From then on the boys gave up as every decision went against them. I don’t think any of the players enjoyed today and I certainly didn’t. Final score 6-2 with no MOTM this week as no decision was made from parents who didn’t stay.”
