[updated 8.30pm] Sunday 18 December 2016 with McDonalds: Cup final booked for Sunday seniors

Draw specialists Green stay unbeaten at misty Margate

Sunday afternoon’s trip to the coast ended in yet another draw for the U15s, this time round 2-2 with leaders Margate Youth. In fact, a win would have taken the squad to joint top but today’s results leave Margate, the Green and Park Farm Rangers all holding onto their unbeaten tag. Alex Allan and Ryan Harris were on target for Sean Phelan’s charges with the Player of the Match accolade going to Kuba Grynko. Manager’s summary below.

Well done Kuba!

Under 15s EKYL Mnnager’s report

We made the long trip to Thanet for our first match against League leaders and in form side Margate Youth. We hadn’t played them before but, like us, they were unbeaten this season so we knew a tough game was on the cards.

Unfortunately we started very slowly and had a poor first half. Margate were a good, physical team and seemed to be the first to every ball. The majority of the game was played in the middle of the park and we only had a couple of half chances. Margate also only had a couple of chances but took advantage and went into the break 2-0 up.
As I have said before, last season our heads would have dropped and we would have argued among ourselves. However, this season we have a much better team spirit and refuse to give up. We came out for the 2nd half and dominated the game. A low hard cross from Reece into the box was met by the prolific Alex A who lashed in. Reece was again the provider when he squared a ball to Ryan who side footed a first time shot past the keeper to bring us level. We continued to attack with Kuba coming close with a first time shot from another cross from the right, this time from Louis. However, the final score was 2-2 which was probably a fair result from two very even teams.
Special mentions to both Josh and Ollie H who stood in at right back for the injured Jack Petts. A great performance from both with non stop battling from Josh and Captain Ollie winning everything in the air where Margate had previously dominated.
Man of the match though goes to Kuba. Another solid performance from our left winger who battled for everything despite being on the receiving end of some very physical play. Well done Kuba.
Enjoy your Christmas break boys knowing you are unbeaten in the League and very much in contention. We have a full match diary in January and I expect full points, nothing less!

Great effort by the ladies … marvellous fun for the young children

A big thank you to Rachel, Nicola and the ladies for their work in making the Children’s Christmas Party such a huge success. Not forgetting of course Father ‘Pip’ Christmas! Our sponsors, McDonalds, presented medallions and team gifts while the club made sure all children in attendance received a present. Great to see a packed house at both the party and the quiz … again thanks to all who supported the events and a special mention for Leah-Ann and Pete for their hours of toil.

Things are buzzing off the pitch but there is also much to celebrate on the field of play with the Saturday side hammering Canterbury Leaguers The Bull 6-1 in the Ashford Charity Trophy and the Sunday boys pulling off a superb 5-2 cup semi-final triumph at Charing Heath. Today’s goals were provided by Matt Wedge (3) and James Haylock-Ashdown (2).

This coming week, we are open Monday 4.30 – 7pm and Friday 7 – 10pm. Monday has the EKYL U10s training while on Friday there is an open invitation to all senior players and members to gather for a Christmas drink prior to having some time off.

Martin Wirt reports on a successful visit to Faversham
Good way to finish the year for the U15/16s with a good win away to Faversham. The boys played some great football and was looking back to their best. Every player had a strong game but the stand out player was Cameron with a hat trick. Other goal scorers were, Charlie 2, Kuba 2 and 1 from Alex . Well done all and have a great Christmas

Well done Cameron, hat trick and Green Player of the Match

Late decider but good display by the Under 13s
Report from Rob Finn
Today we made the long trip to Weald Wolves. The boys started lively and had chances to go ahead but was denied by the opposition keeper as the fog got quite thick an error from Jaden in midfield cost us a goal 1-0. The boys pressed for equaliser but shots from Ilja, Kieron and Dre were scuffed HT 1-0. Second half the boys pressed and was soon level when we won a corner which Lash sent into the box and Ilja calmly backheeled into the path of Gift who fired a low shot into the net 1-1 and moments later should have gone ahead when Piotr sent a ball over the top of the defence and Lash was through on goal only for Gift to take the ball from his feet and the ball was cleared . The boys had the majority of possession in the second half but didn’t take their chances and with just 2 minutes remaining Nathan was called into action making a double save only for the opposition pouncing on the rebound to win the match 2-1 which was to be the final score . A brave performance by the boys and was unlucky to come away with nothing but can take positives from the game you lost but played well. With only 11 players available for today you done myself and the club proud . MOTM today was Jack for some outstanding defending.
