Match Report for U16 Valliants for 22nd January 2017

By David Spencer

Firstly, well done to all of the squad for turning up today despite the -5.5 freezing weather.

The day got off to a very good start with a 2-1 win against “top-of–the- table“ Charlton with goals being scored by both Rhys and Keiron.

The next match the boys all played well and Owen made some very good saves to keep a clean sheet against Sheppey United.  Final score BGV 2 – SU 0.

With the team’s confidence growing from the first two wins, next up was Maidstone, where again Owen kept a clean sheet and both Toby, Rhys and Keiron managing between them to accumulate 4 goals! Final score BGV 4 – M 0.

Our second meeting against Sheppey United resulted in a narrow loss, despite advantage play being stopped where Cameron’s goal was disallowed.  During this match Rhys played from the back a brilliant long ball pass, which Keiron finished with a well-placed header into the corner of the goal.   Final score BGV 1 Sheppey 2.

Next up was Maidstone United again, and with changed format allowing Toby to play a more midfield role we managed to score a further 3 goals and our defenders Charlie, Ashley and Tom all played well to assist with keeping yet another clean sheet.  Final score BGV 3  Maidstone 0.

Our final match of the day was against Charlton and with a little fatigue setting in we went 1 goal down within a few minutes.  We made several good shots on target, but Charlton’s keeper was determined to keep a clean sheet.  As with all matches sometimes a little luck is needed, Rhys made a powerful high-ball clearance from well within our own half which resulted in the keeper mis-reading the ball and it ended in the back of the net.  With the game all level the tempo of the game stepped up and the ball was changing ends rapidly, Toby put in a strong tackle in front of our goal, which resulted in a 2 min off the pitch.  With only 5 players on the pitch the team stood strong and repelled several attacks.  Toby re-joined the game but with only a minute left, followed quickly with the ref calling time.  Final score BGV 1 Charlton 1.

Overall, a great day of football with some real skill on show.

Well done to all of the U16 Valliants you should all be very proud of yourselves.

Man of the match today was awarded to Owen our keeper for keeping 3 clean sheets, and numerous excellent saves.  Well done and keep up the good work Owen J and the rest of the team!

Match Report for U13s v Grasshoppers on 21/01/2017

By David Spencer

DX logo_CMYKDespite the extremely cold weather resulting in our kick-off being delayed by 30 minutes to allow the ground to semi thaw, added with the fact that we didn’t have any substitutes available for the match against the top-of-the-table team Grasshoppers – the boys all did very well.

Our tactic was to defend well in the first half and concede as fewer goals as possible and then claw back the game in the 2nd half as during our last meeting with Grasshoppers this tactic resulting in us succeeding to get back 5 goals.

With this in mind the team defended admirably only to concede 1 goal just before half time.

We went into the second half full of confidence, but with a few players missing this week our goal scoring opportunities where reduced, and then with fatigue starting to set in due to the lack of substitutions.

For 80% of the second half we had to defend, which we did so really well.

Callum was outstanding in goal, completing several fantastic saves, and making many goalkeeper rushes to clear away several threatening balls.

Both Lorenzo and Lennon cleared 2 balls off our goal line.

Despite the final score ending 4-0 to the Grasshoppers the U13s did not let their heads go down – so well done to all the boys, keep up the good work!
