Green U15s win 2-1 at The Abbey School
Only one match in the club this weekend but nevertheless a great result for the U15s this afternoon with a 2-1 away success over Faversham Town. Josh Higgins was our Player of the Match with the goals on the 3G coming from Cameron Bruce and Max Bourne. Manager’s report below.

Report from Sean Phelan
Our match away to Faversham this Sunday was one of our most eventful yet. We had beaten Faversham a few weeks previously 7-1, although I thought at the time it was surprising they were losing so many matches because they had some quality players. Also today’s match was on a 3g pitch that I thought would suit our footballing game. On the downside we were severely depleted with 4 players missing (Olly keeper, Alex A, Lenny and Kuba) through holiday, injury and other reasons. We also had a couple of players carrying injuries. To make matters worse our stand in keeper Angus had injured his wrist so Ryan had to don a bib and play in goal.
From the kick off it was end to end stuff. We played the ball out wide and through the middle and they played the ball over the top to a ridiculously pacy striker that even Alex P found a handful. But the most influential person on the pitch today was the referee. He overlooked nothing. A bit of argy bargy between one of their players and Angus resulted in a yellow card each, although on the whole it was a good natured game. They were the first to go close with a 1 on 1 with the keeper but Ryan saved brilliantly at the strikers feet. The breakthrough came midway through the first half with an assist (skewed shot, but Reece will say he meant it) that Cam latched onto with a first time shot to put us 1 up. 10 mins later and what was probably our goal of the season was scored by Max. From inside our own half we played the ball out, 10 passes around the pitch and then Max thundering it into the top corner from 30 yds!
2-0 at half time and then it all went a bit weird. Faversham played much better in the 2nd half and pinned us back but we looked comfortable. Then Alex P picked up a yellow for asking the ref about a ball kicked out of the park. Now both our centre backs were on yellow and treading carefully. However, it got worse. Jack P was inside his own area facing goal with the ball. Their player was behind, not beside him, and pushed Jack off the ball and scored. Jack asked the ref why a foul wasn’t given and received a yellow card. Jack said that was unfair and promptly received a red!
Fortunately we held on for the 2-1 win but the spate of cards (in my view harsh at this age group particularly as it wasn’t a match with any needle but a lesson learnt I suppose) took some of the gloss off the result. Stand out performances today from Max and Ollie in the middle of the park and Ryan in goal who claimed everything. Man of the match was Josh. A real battling display and won numerous headers, well done Josh.
