Manager’s match summary
For our penultimate game of the season, we entertained Betteshanger for the 3rd time. They had beaten us in the cup and we had beaten them in the league previously.
Following holidays and no shows we were down to the bare 11. As it was Cam went off early on through injury so we played at least 60 mins with only 10 men. It was a makeshift back 4 with Max, Josh and Ollie playing in unfamiliar positions and only Jack H in his regular slot. Also, a big thanks to Ryan for putting on the keepers jersey as both our 1st and 2nd choice keepers were away. However, each of them played really well against a very pacy and high scoring Betteshanger attack.
For this game we welcomed back Alex A who has missed half of the season through injury and we soon saw what we had missed. He scored midway through the first half and we went in 1-0 up at half time. However, right from the kick off Betteshanger equalised. Not to be outdone, we again took the lead right away through Kuba. The game continued to be an end to end affair with the final score 4-4. Both Kuba and Alex scored twice but could easily have had a hat trick each with a bit more composure in front of goal although Alex was unlucky to hit the post.
Kuba and Reece were industrious in midfield and Alex a continuous threat upfront. On the left wing Lewis battled well and provided several good crosses. On the other side Louis set up numerous chances for both Alex and Kuba.
Overall a great performance from a very depleted side. The point earned meant we secured 4th spot. If we had kept our early season momentum going we would have been challenging for top spot. As it is our last match v Margate in a couple of weeks will have no bearing on our final position so can I please ask the players to enjoy it!
