Green win again to book Weald Junior Cup final place

Bromley Green 2-1 Faversham United

Firstly, thanks to all who came to support the squad today … it makes a real difference to have such backing. Already missing a bundle of key players in the starting line-up through work commitments, the Green were further hampered with injuries to defenders Ryan Prior and Terry Perk.

But there is a resilience about our senior sides this term when facing adversity and, despite a totally rearranged format, we took the lead with a beautiful hook shot from the impressive Ryan Ford. During the first half United created a few chances; but at the other end two penalty claims for handball were turned down while on another day leading scorer Jordan Griffin would have notched a hatful.

With Connor Gower buzzing in the middle and Josh Twyman and Harry Mansfield outstanding in defence, the Green were clearly the better side as opportunities came and went. However, in the end, constant pressure, led to the Green taking the tie with a Shqipron Ahmetaj spot kick.

A fully deserved victory and perhaps worth noting that ten of the players came through the BG youth ranks. Well done boys and good luck in the final.

Cup results from the Ashford & District League
Biddenden 0-7 Rolvenden Reserves
Smarden 3-3 Ashford Athletic Reserves

These results lead to next week’s league cup semis with the Green at home to Woodchurch and Smarden visiting neighbours Tenterden.

Lots of fun for the younger ones at Waterside today …

Good fun for mixed age groups this morning with our friends from Appledore
