Tournament action: U14s, U10s, U9s

Update: We have one space in the U10s for our tournament next weekend after a withdrawal. Anyone interested in taking up the space, please email dhomewood@yahoo.com by 10pm this evening. Thank you.

Further update: U10s space taken by Pilgrims … thank you Karl

U8s waiting on Kennington for an answer. Could be another vacancy … more news as soon as we hear

U9s hold their own against top opposition

Two draws and three defeats doesn’t sound brilliant but put into context this was a gallant effort by the U9s at Deal who came up against higher-grade and indeed older opponents.

Terrific spirit from the U9s today who bravely played up a year

We played some good football today despite playing up a year and they matched the opposition in every aspect with some good moves and defended well.
Well done all who took part!
Player of the tournament today was Matteo. .
Rob

Editor’s note: So pleased for Matteo who has come on in leaps and bounds at the Green and it is great to see him happy on and off the field. Also a word of praise for Rob who accepted the Executive’s offer to take up this new challenge – he has galvanised the squad to the extent that they can’t wait till the next tournament (which of course is our own next weekend). Great stuff everyone and Phil (Matteo’s dad) … your non-alcoholic beer will be in stock from Monday!

Under 14s end on a high

After a painful start, the U14s came within an inch of redeeming themselves at sun-kissed Deal today. Glaring mistakes, own goals and a general lack of marking, saw us lose the opening three qualifiers before a comeback that brought victory and a draw against the favourites Deal Town Rangers. Perhaps too little, too late – but the signs are there and all the boys deserve praise for showing great courage and fight as the day progressed. Had a thunderbolt from Gift hit the net instead of rebounding from the crossbar in our final match, we would have been in the quarter finals. Such are the fine margins in football. Our player of the match could have gone to a number of lads but the determination and quality of Jordan’s defencing for the final two matches just clinches it. The U14s are also in action tomorrow at Sandyacres with Mark Fuller and Rob Finn taking the squad. Meet 11,30am in the clubhouse. Some pictures from Deal:

U10s report from Sandyacres … four goalless draws!

The current under 10s played in the Ashford tournament today playing 4 games in the group stages.
The team gelled very well and all 4 games where end to end with Bromley green having more of the ball in 3 games, with a very tight 4th game.
The end result was 4 nil-nil games, but plenty of shooting going just wide or good goalkeeping from the other team.
Jamie pulled off a terrific triple safe in the last minute of the last game to keep a clean sheet for the tournament.
Player of the tournament was Tom but all the boys played well in very hot conditions. So a big well done to all.
