Under 16s … stand-in keeper Max earns Player of the Match accolade
Today we welcomed Ashford United for the much awaited opening league game of the season. We stressed to the boys the importance of a fast start and they took the message on board brilliantly. Giving our opponents nothing and playing some nice football along the way. We took the lead though Ryan who whipped in a wicked crossed which deceived the keeper and nestled in the top corner. As the half wore on we continued to dominate the game and had a 2nd goal incorrectly ruled out for offside. The boys didn’t let this deter them and they continued to be the better team but were just not able to get that second goal. We didn’t start the with the same energy and some hesitation allowed the visitors to equalise. We were still creating chances and after a strong run down the left from Jack we were awarded a penalty. Ryan stepped up but their keeper made a good save. The rest of the half played out a similar pattern, us peppering their goal and then trying to hit us on the counter. The game ended in a draw, I really felt we were unlucky not to get the 3 points. The fact that their goalkeeper was their player of the match and we hit the woodwork 5 times really tells its own story.
Well done boys! Carl

Under 15s
Saturday we welcomed Park Farm Rangers to Waterside, We started the game brightly and managed to take an early lead through ilja. But we seemed to take our foot off the pedal and park farm equalised. Park farm piled on the pressure but our defence stood strong. Against the run of play we went back in front with a goal from Jordan, that was followed by goals from Kieron and lashman, so half time and we were 4-1 up, That seemed to knock the wind out of park farm. In the second half we dominated the game and began to dictate the play, Jordan got his second of the match, ilja got on the scoresheet again. Then goal of the game came from jaden with a thunderous shot which flew into the back of the net. And finally Jordan scored again to claim his Hatrick. Another great effort from everyone involved. It was hard to pick player of the match with so many stand out performances, Conan and Charlie striking up a good partnership in defence, but Jordan edged it with his well earned Hatrick. Our 100 % record continues. Well played boys! Mark
