Under 16s report from Carl
Our 3rd game of the season took us away to Faversham Strike Force who had won division 3 last season. I asked the boys before the game to move the ball quickly and play with some purpose. We started the game really well and had all of the ball in the early stages, the most pleasing thing was that the possession had a purpose as we were creating chances. Completely against the run of play they took the lead with the flukiest goal you are likely to see. There striker closed down a back pass to the goalkeeper, as Elliot cleared the ball it hit the strikers back and went in. But the boys didn’t let this upset our good start and we began really dominate the game with Strike Force reduced to a long ball to their lone striker. We just couldn’t get the equaliser that our played deserved through as combination of great goalkeeping and great defending. The half time whistle went and I kept it simple to the boys at the break, change nothing!!! We started the second half exactly the same and dominated the game created lots of openings, it really looked like when rather than if the equaliser was going to come. Then a moment of controversy, Jordan was penalised for a tug on the striker and it was adjudged to have been inside the penalty area. It was soft at best, they scored the penalty and some how had a 2-0 lead. Credit to the boys they kept going and again created so many good openings but the ball just wouldn’t go in. The game finished with a 2-0 defeat that really didn’t tell the story. The boys were superb throughout and if they continue to play like that they will win plenty of games this season. My player of the match today went to Lenny Russell, he was superb of the left side of the midfield showing great ability on the ball and constantly pressing the opponent. Well done boys, your performance was excellent.
