Birthday greetings today to David Warde and Sam Phelan!
Training tonight for the U8s at Highworth 6pm
Summing up the weekend
Thanks to Josh Ahmad who kindly volunteered to referee Saturday’s Vets match at Waterside. Proceeds will go towards our collection in memory of the late Tommy Habgood. We are planning to have a return with Pilgrims but first, in January, we welcome Whitstable Vets.
Disappointment for our U6s, U7s and U11s with opponents unable to field sides and the Sunday seniors suffering the same fate due to Givaudan having to call off owing to a lack of players. Let’s hope it is not a recurring trend as the recent, and indeed ongoing, demise of long-established clubs is sad to witness. No games then for the seniors but action for some youth teams.
Win of the weekend has to be the U12s 2-1 away success over Pilgrims with scores from Brentley Hone and Joe Hollamby; and great to see current Youth Clubperson Nicole Baker [pictured] win the McDonalds voucher for Player of the Match.
We are not allowed to publish results or scorers from the younger age groups but a fabulous game on a bitterly cold morning between our U9s and Mersham kept the crowd warm. Credit to both teams with the Green’s defender Liam Trumper epitomising the improvement within the squad and earning the Player of the Match accolade. Pip and Matt (pictured) were delighted with the display while the form of Phoebe Cowley, Tommy Piggott and Riley Brown augurs well for the future. Well played all and a smashing birthday celebration afterwards for Louis Taylor!
Keeper Bradley Williams took the Player of the Match trophy for the U8s who made the short trip to Homelands. Manager Martyn Smith still has room for one more player to join his Butlins ESF squad at Bognor Regis next May … give him a ring or text (number is on the Contact Us page).
It’s not been all roses with the U15s lately but a 2-0 win at home against a much improved Smeeth & Brabourne side keeps the lads in the leading pack. First half goals by Ilja Seleznovs and Kieron Smith proved sufficient to secure the points. Manager Mark Fuller would like to speak to all parents and players before training on Thursday at Norton Knatchbull please.
Bromley Green Adult Valiants are being fully tested with their promotion but enjoyed Sunday’s tournament at Faversham. News is that Phil ‘Pip’ Castle is standing down as a Valiants coach but will continue with the U9s.
Final game of the weekend saw the U16s exit the league cup at the hands of visitors Hawkinge. Cameron Bruce netted our consolation score in a 6-1 defeat.
