Mixed fortunes … a new week and we go again!

Training Monday for the U8s at Highworth with Martyn (starting 6pm)

The pitches are a tad damp! Apart from the U15s game with Hastings United, which was called off by the referee, all of our home games went ahead as planned this weekend and credit must go to our ground staff, Grant and Brian, who toiled well beyond the call of duty.

As usual, we enjoyed (if that is the appropriate word) mixed fortunes and cannot hide from a poor performance at Homelands where Ashford Athletic were much better prepared and fully deserved their win in the WKCC. Next week the boys face Faversham Town Reserves and need to get their act together with maximum points a must.

On Sunday morning, in a repeat of last year’s final, we overcame the challenge of Channel CFC 3-0 with three fabulous goals from Layton (2) and Connor. But this was a true squad achievement with everybody, including our substitutes, playing a part. We look forward to the final against either Givaudan or Fox Sunday, who meet at The Ridge next Sunday, on 18 March at Reachfields. Next week, Gary Gibbs and company welcome second-placed Sellindge to Waterside for another crucial match in the bid for the title.

On the youth front, several of our sides have made additions to their squads and patience is beginning to reap its reward with results really encouraging (we are not allowed to publish results for the younger teams). The Under 13s are in a good frame of mind despite a defeat at Staplehurst and things are starting to buzz now with the ESF Tournament at Bognor Regis approaching.

On the BG Valiants front, excitement is growing for the Peoples Cup and details are on the Events & Fixtures page. For the opening salvo at Strood on 25 February, the meeting time is as usual 8am in the clubhouse. We have entered both Adult sides and our U16s.
