Green into the Sheber Cup semi-finals as goals from the G-Men see off local rivals
Bromley Green 2-1 Willesborough Athletic
(S Gibbs, C Gower) (T Wilkes)
Bromley Green, who have won the Sheber Cup a record six times, progressed to the last four of this season’s competition with a hard fought odd goal in three victory over Willesborough Athletic. A deflected shot from ex-Green man Tom Wilkes gave the visitors the lead but a well taken goal, slotted in by Connor Gower, saw the sides level at the interval. The decider came from another hard and low drive from midfielder Sean Gibbs and Gary’s squad now facer another stiff test, away to Lydd Grasshoppers, in the semi-final. For the Blues, ex-Green men Aaron Neil and Matt Jarvis were always prominent but the experience of the home team won the day. Ryan Ford, Gower, Jamie Hurst and veteran Lee Milton were all effective for the Green. Great to see former manager Steve Morse for a quick Guinness and Gary would like to thank the loyal fans who continue to support the squad whatever the weather. Next up are Charing Reserves, as we return to focus on the main target of promotion, and it is hoped some of the many missing today will be available for what is a mega-busy final three months to the season.

Patron praises Bromley Green Valiants youngsters
Executive Committee member Matt Twyman was on hand to present the young Valiants with an Easter Egg each at Waterside this morning. Speaking briefly, Honorary Patron, Dave Homewood, praised the five youngsters for their commitment and coaches Aaron and Nick for their dedication to the cause. “Nick and Aaron are always here early and superbly prepared … I have to say it is not fair when parents fail to notify them of non-attendance and today’s lovely weather cannot be used an excuse. But I want to focus on the positives and these youngsters epitomise what our club is about … friendship, hard work and respecting their seniors. Daniel also continues to be the perfect clubman, raising £100 on his sponsorship penalty sheet which will go towards equipment, a treat … whatever the manager and players decide for their teams. Five great lads of which our club is very proud”.
Valiants preparing for the Peoples Cup
Firstly, congratulations to our good friend Chris Keogh [front right] who scored his first-ever goal today at the tournament. “It came off of my knee … sorry!” he confessed with a big grin. Well done mate … keep up the good work.
Overall, results were not too good but rebuilding takes time and patience and no doubt we will be alright on the day when the Peoples Cup takes centre stage next Sunday.
U10s summary on a cracker with our Mersham friends by Rob Finn
Today we welcomed Mersham to Waterside for our rearranged fixture with both teams starting strongly. But it was Mersham took the lead punishing a mistake at the back but the boys kept going and were soon level with Matteo netting from a fine cross from Harrison. However, just before the break, the boys conceded again. Second half the boys were on top and a few chances went begging but another fine cross into the box, this time from Matteo, which Charlie met and fired home hard and low. All square again into the last 10 minutes and Matteo had a fine strike tipped onto the bar from the visiting keeper. A great effort by all the boys who took part today in a very entertaining game and a big well done to Herk [pictured] for getting PoTM for some solid defending.
Well done to the Under 9s who took their penalties on Saturday. Matt has kept an accurate record and we will publish all the scores and takings to date within the next few days. Still a few teams to take their penalties and details of day/time will be on the Events & Fixtures page.
