Another urgent update: Message from Martyn – U8s training is OFF tonight as it is so cold
Birthday greetings today to Josh Peall!
Urgent update: tonight’s tournament meeting has been postponed
Due to a number of colleagues being unwell with chest infections, lingering coughs, flu etc and several with work commitments, (plus the bitter cold!) tonight’s planned get together to discuss this year’s tournament has been postponed. Sorry for any inconvenience caused but we will convene at a rearranged date soon. Everything is in hand and I will send out details of where we are at to all those concerned over the next day or two. Entries to our own event are coming in nicely but some age groups could do with a couple more teams … every youth team folder contains invites and a log to fill in of which teams you have invited. Thank you.
For entries to external tournaments, some teams have not entered any as yet which is worrying. Remember children are entitled to free tournament participation as part of their standing order. Can I ask that managers/admin don’t leave things to the last minute when the chances are you will have missed the boat. Invites to all external tournaments have been emailed to all our managers and admins. You were also emailed all relevant details such as Kent FA number some time ago. Just send in the entries with the money or BACS and the club will reimburse you immediately.
Training is on tonight and tomorrow as per the schedule (refer to the Events & Fixtures page if in any doubt)
Message from Nick Cook: the Sponsored Penalties will now be taken at 10am on 18 March. Please can all players make the effort … remember the money goes towards your own team!
There was again some consternation over the use of senior pitches over the weekend … and the sooner this winter clears off the better. As always thanks go to Grant, Brian, James and the youngsters who worked on the pitches on Saturday. So there is no misunderstanding, the referee, Pat and Carl made inspections at 10am and 12 noon. Their consensus was that the near pitch was unsafe (frozen) in the goalmouth but the far pitch was safe and playable. We were planning to put together some clear guidelines on procedures re use of pitches this evening but the meeting has been put back. We need to roll the pitches but for weeks now they have been either frozen solid or waterlogged! If we can all continue to work together, however frustrating it seems sometimes. Thank you.
Cameron takes a dive
Cameron Spencer has already raised a huge amount towards a fund aimed at adapting his school bus. He is bravely doing a tandem sky dive from just 15000 feet!
Bromley Green FC is proud of all its youngsters and this kind of effort is awesome. If you would like to sponsor Cam, please use the link below:
David Spencer reports on the BG Valiants at the People’s Cup
This is a national 5-a-side competition, which see some of the best teams in the uk take part.
We had 6 x 12mins matches in total playing Folkestone, Maidstone and Charlton all twice.
On the day our tactic was to shoot from distance as the pitches were very short. What we did not anticipate on the day was how little time we had on the ball as in 5-a-side football you get closed down so quickly, that you need to move the ball using one touch (something we are not use to).
On the day our best match was played against Folkestone the 2nd time around where we got off to an early lead with a goal from Cameron quickly followed by another goal from Cam. Unfortunately, we did not manage to hold on the remainder of the game and this game ended 3-2 against us.
The standard of football on the day was very good and the team played to the best of their ability, but we were simply outplayed on the day.
Good luck to Maidstone United with the remainder of their FA Peoples Cup campaign.
For us Valiants, more training lads and next year we will be better prepared.
Well done lads.
