Sunday’s senior summaries

A good game with 5 players missing. A slow start and after 20 we went 2-0 down. After a 35 yard screamer from Gower followed up in the next couple of minutes by a tap in by Pawel. Game could have gone either way but a change of positions and a well taken free kick by Hurst was enough for a draw. Still some work to do and a few things we still can learn but all in all a good work out. A few rumours going around about players coming or going to squash any rumours ask myself and I’ll let you know don’t listen to crap. Gary Gibbs.

For the seconds, great to see more Green youngsters being brave enough to step into the senior world. Be patient and it will come boys! Lovely goal from Charlie and Cameron had his best game to date. Terrific promise from Conan and Jordan … it will take time but the youngsters are looking good for the future of the club. Unfortunately, Ilja was once again still in bed. Thanks to Roger Corkhill for stepping in to referee at short notice. Next week the boys have their first real test with an opening league encounter against Pilgrims.

Urgent update: U16s and U14s games this afternoon are both OFF … very disappointing but nothing we can do about it!

Rob Finn’s summary of the nailbiter with the Stones
On Saturday we welcomed Folkestone Invicta to Waterside which was to be a very entertaining game with both sides playing good football with end to end stuff. Folkestone eventually took the lead with a well taken strike but within minutes we were on level terms when Preston put a lovely ball over the defence which Matteo got on to and slotted home 1-1. Then Folkestone retook the lead with five minutes remaining of the first half; but just before the break Matteo slotted home again from a through ball once again from Preston 2-2. Second half we conceded a sloppy goal 2-3 but Kieran got on the end of a fine corner and made it 3-3. But with 10 minutes remaining the boys switched and, although Preston got a hand to the shot, couldn’t quite keep it out 3-4 – which was to be the final score.
Well done to all that took part and to Preston on getting PoTM for his first half performance. Superb entertainment for a good crowd and thanks to referee Neil Holmes.
