Tournament a success
Well done to Nancy, Courtney, Leah-Ann, Pat, Martyn, Nicole, Lisa and all those who made the ADYFL U8s Tournament a success at Waterside today … apologies to anyone I’ve missed … and thank goodness the rain stayed away until late afternoon!
Under 16s put up good show at Ulcombe but finally go down 3-0 against Headcorn. 2-0 down at the break, Jordan Osborne smacked a free kick against the bar but it wasn’t to be for the Green boys for whom Piotr and Jordan caught the eye. New signing Sam is now available and it will all be ok in the long run!
Under 14s come back to share the spoils from a 2-2 draw at The Rype with Lydd & Marsh Athletic, who maintained their unbeaten record. Second half goals from Freddie Copham and Alfie Tappenden (penalty in the last minute) earned the Green a point as they go into tomorrow’s Kent Boys Cup tie at Central Park Stadium, Sittingbourne. Squad news is that Josh Peall and Bradley Richards are unavailable.
Report from Nicole
Today we travelled down to Lydd & Marsh, with a big squad of 15 due to new signing Alfie Tappenden being available for his first league game since recently joining us. We had a very good warm up probably the best one of the season boys looked energetic and ready to go. The game started a little slowly again, similar to last week. The game was very much end to end both teams creating chances it was like watching a game of ping pong. However, Lydd’s game plan seemed to be working, as the first half went on they looked like they were going to be the first team to score, and indeed they were. They ended the half 2-0 up due to some dodgy defending from us! Beginning of the second half we started playing how we know we can with few mistakes. We created some good chances but none were going in, Igor hit the bar with a great strike from just inside Lydd’s half and Freddie had numerous shots but their goalkeeper was fantastic today! Finally we had a break through with some good link up play Freddie had some space in the box and with his goal scoring form this season, we knew he would get at least one! With the game drawing to a close we were attack, attack, attack just to try and get one more opportunity. With some good play down the left hand side Freddie again found himself through on goal, 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper who rushed out to stop him and was deemed to have fouled Freddie in the process, we were awarded a penalty in the last minute of the game. Up stepped new signing Alfie to smash home and get us a well earned point!
