David Bridge reports on the U8 Hurricanes at Hawkinge
The Under 8s Hurricanes had to overcome the toughest of groups and the weather today at the Hawkinge tournament. Starting with a solid 1-0 victory against Ramsgate with the only goal coming from Charlie Andrew, with a barnstorming run from defence. This was then backed up by a narrow 2-1 defeat to St Margaret’s Bay, a typical thunderbolt of a shot from Vince Ayavoro left foot. The team was unlucky not to get an equaliser through good link up play by Nathaniel Bulman and clever work on the wing by Thomas Bridge. The 3rd game was a repeat of the teams first ever league fixture against Hythe, which they previously lost 18-3. A demonstration of how far this team has developed gave them a 1-0 victory with a great goal from Owen Page. The whole team played well but outstanding performances in defence from Alfie Potts and George Preston. A special mention also for Daniel Smith in goal. The final game against eventual group winners Canterbury was a 2-0 defeat but enough to proceed to the knockout stages.
A closely fought quarter final against the hosts Hawkinge resulted in a close 1-0 defeat. An unlucky goal conceded in the last minute was end of the road. However, a great team performance all round leaving parents and coaches proud. 👍
