Firsts win, reserves win, BG Girls hammer nine in league opener

Gibbs: “We are not here to make the numbers up”

Today we went to Stanhope with 11 players after people being away on holiday or not available due to other commitments. We started off terrible handing Stanhope a goal in the first 5 minutes. We replied within minutes as Ship saw their keeper off his line from the half way line (small pitch though). The in- form Luke Burdon then picked up the pace with strike partner and veteran Pat Kingwell and started to find the back of the net. Once we got into our stride we were too good for Stanhope and run away with it. Luke grabbed 4, Jordan Griffin grabbed a brace. Stuart Taylor and an own goal. Thanks for Dave Griffin for going in goal at the last minute. Man of the match went to Ship. Another great team performance let’s keep it going and prove to everyone that we are not here just to make the numbers up as the league table shows.

Bromley Green Girls hammer nine in league opener at Sidcup – report from Steve Sutton

BG Girls before a 9-1 victory away to Foots Cray Lionesses

The U14 girls started their league campaign away to Foots Cray Lionesses, who were promoted as runners up from division 3 last season. Game started brightly, but after 3 minutes a clearance was picked up by the home team slotting it home. It literally only took a minute for the Green girls to draw level with a 20 yard shot by Anya. From this point on the home side never really got into the game, with the Green Girls taking a firm grip of matters with Anya getting another goal and Ella netting three making the half time score 5-1 to the away side. Second half continued the same with Lily in goal being a spectator for most of the game. The second half saw another 4 goals scored by the girls with Ella getting another 2, taking her match total to 5, and Grace chipping in with 2 goals. Great start to the season, and being a small division of only 6 teams shows this could be a profitable season! Great effort and keep it up girls!

Under 13s

Well done Orlando … U13s PoM

Seniors come back from 2-0 down at South Road, Hythe but still miss out to the tune of 4-2 in their league opener away to Fountain. Two goals conceded in the dying minutes sealed our fate as we went for a decider. Keeper Keiron Smith was the pick of the Green whose consolation scores both came from Ryan Carter.

So many positives from this morning’s youth games that it is difficult to know where to start! Firstly, thank you to the managers, referees and parents that contributed to some great entertainment.

But it was the players that deserve top billing with the Under 9s showing their potential at home to Wye. Player of the Match Ali Mawloud (below) and defender Frankie Kelly were arguably our most effective players but this was a real gutsy squad effort by all of the twelve lads. Not allowed to give the score. Full report to follow.

Congratulations to Ali … our U9 Player of the Match against Wye

Under 11 Warriors report from Lorraine Briggs

Today the U11 Warriors played their first league match of the season with a trip to Wye and, with Wye having no ref available, Lindsey kindly stepped in to save the day (thank you!)
The game kicked off and a lot of time seemed to be spent in our goal.  An early Wye corner forced a good save from Oliver; while another corner saw Archie clear off the line with a brilliant header.  After a few more corners, Harley made a lovely pass down the wing to Liam which ended in a corner which was cleared. Wye took the opportunity to go on attack forcing Oliver to make another great save.
Sabri makes a good run passes through to Liam who is taken out inside the box.  Referee awards a penalty and Henry steps up and places it beautifully in the bottom left corner.
Other end and Wye win a throw in and make it count – Oliver had no chance.
From the kick off, Harley made a telling pass to Oskar who made a good run and a lovely little tap through the keeper’s legs (apparently the celebration was one to remember – we would like a replay at training on Monday!)
Half time saw the first sub with Lenny stepping in for Archie.
Lenny helped Reegan and Henry keep the opposition at bay with a strong back line from them all throughout the game.
Charlie made another good run with a pass to Harley which resulted in a corner.  Corner taken and Liam passes to Charlie in the box.  Awesome shot straight over the keepers head he had no chance. Sub – Oskar makes way for Archie as
Wye go on the attack and things get really scrappy in front of goal.
End to end for a while with Reegan and Henry staying strong throughout and keeping their attacks at bay.  Also another great save from Oliver.
A lovely pass by Henry to Charlie gives Charlie a good run down the centre with a head, a knee, some fancy footwork and a shot on goal.
Play continues Sabri makes a run, the ball makes its way through – Wye try to clear but the ball is headed into their own goal.
Liam makes a lovely run but is fouled just outside the box winning a free kick.  Harley takes and hits the post.  Liam passes to Charlie whose shot forced a good save from their keeper.
Wye go on the attack and manage a very late consolation goal,
The boys played brilliantly today.  They worked hard, didn’t give up and had a good attitude.  Encouraging start to the season – let’s hope it continues! Sorry, not allowed to give the score. Player of the match (as chosen by parents) – Charlie

Sorry if I missed anything! Lorraine

  • Report from David Bridge as Hurricanes get off to a flier
Squad: Alfie Potts, Charlie Andrew, Thomas Bridge, Nathaniel Bulman, Owen Page, Louis Adegunle, Tyler Temple , Ethan Webb, George Preston, Daniel Smith

Strong performance in our first game of the season at the newly formed Tenterden Tigers.  It was a tightly fought opening with the team passing the ball well but struggled to initially make the opening. Once the first goal went in the team relaxed and the goals started to flow. Tyler Temple scoring a first half hat trick with the rocket of his right foot.  Nathaniel Bulman continued his goal scoring run with another brace with George Preston (2) and Louis Adegunle getting their first goals for Bromley Green. But  this was not just about the goals with strong all round team performance from everyone.
With the traffic chaos in Ashford the parents PoTM was done after the game, with Ethan Webb a well deserved choice. Showed good awareness all game and the ability to turn defence into attack with the pass or strong run.

Well played boys great start to the season – now to keep it up 👍 Sorry, not allowed to give the score in non-competitive matches.
BGFC U9 Hurricanes in terrific form at Tenterden
Congratulations Ethan!

Under 8s Dream Team report from Tony and Damo

So the Bromley Green Dream team, took on local rivals South Ashford. Very good team effort with some great finishing, as well as good team play. Great start to the season. Perfect start to build on and to continue to develop; keep up the good work kids! Goal scorers Bubba 3, Kai 2 with Dexter the Player of the Match. Sorry not allowed to give the score in non-competitive matches.

Bromley Green U8s Global report from Alex Hebbes

BG Global travelled to Headcorn Typhoons for the season opener and first ever league game. Bromley Green started brightly with Daniel Vincent rounding the keeper to score. Headcorn deservedly equalised with a bundled effort over the line, Bromley Green again netted through a Vincent effort after the unlucky Headcorn keeper fumbled a shot. Vincent again scored his hat trick goal with a nice finish into the far corner before half time with a few shots hitting the side netting. Both teams were still battling and playing well in nice conditions. Tyler Quarrie smashes a long drive into the top corner while Daniel Ellis turns provider next evading a few few tackles and put a cross in which falls to Player of the Match Vincent who hits his 4th of the game. Ed Cotton beats a few players and hits the inside of the post with the ball falling to Leo Lum to tap in. Vincent scores his 5th with a clever finish making and not to miss out on an opening day goal Kuba also nets showing great persistence in front of goal and grabbing his chance. Bromley Green were unlucky to not have a 9th goal as the ref hadn’t blown his whistle for kick off when Green steals the ball and Vincent missing out on his double hart trick finishes well into the bottom corner.
Final score xx-xx player of the match Daniel Vincent. Everyone played really well and we go again next week home to Hythe Town. Well done everyone.

Great display for the Global U8s

Rob Finn reflects on BGFC U12 McDonalds great away local derby win

Well done Kavalli … U12 McDonalds PoM in the win at Kennington

Today we made the short trip to Kennington for the opening game of the season and what a cracking game it was against the run of play we fell behind early but within 15 minutes we was level with a great strike by Kavalli 1-1 after that we created chance after chance but the opposition keeper made some fine saves and the woodwork denied us but just before the break Kennington caught us with a counter attack 2-1 HT after a stern talk to the team at the break they went out all guns blazing and were soon back in it when Kris burst through and fired home 2-2 then Sam put us 2-3 up Charlie pulled off a couple of decent saves before Daniel made sure of all 3 points with a wonderful strike final score 2-4 Kavalli got player of the match but a big well done to all
Charlie Alfie Sam Thomas Daniel Elizabeth Kyla Kris Mitchell Kavalli
A great team performance .

Cheers Rob

Under 10s DVS report from Dean Mansfield

On Tuesday we travelled to Wye for an evening friendly last one before the season starts.
Talking to their manager before the game he told me they did not lose a game last season which if you know them you can understand that as them and Mersham was above the rest of us in the league.
This is the games you want to test yourselfs and have to say my team started nervous giving them too much space at times we went in at halftime xx-xx. But second half we matched them on the field and that ended xx-xx so a great result xx-xx but we could have scored more as had some really good chances as did they. Good luck to Wye moving on to a new league.
Lewis getting my Player of the Match playing in goal for only his 2nd time some great saves.

The second half gets under way at Waterside on Tuesday when the McDonalds U12 squad welcomed Folkestone Invicta for the final pre-season friendly

Report from Rob Finn

Last night we welcomed Folkestone Invicta a group A side from the East Kent Youth League who were just too strong for the team although we held them in the first half which ended 0-2 there was some positives taken with some good football and Kavalli stepping in between the sticks covering for Charlie and pulling off some good saves. It was a good run out for the team and to be honest I was expecting anything from this game as they are a very strong side but all done very well a big thanks to Folkestone for coming over and well done on your win and good luck for the new season POTM goes to Kavalli for some great goalkeeping next up is Kennington away on Saturday where we open our league campaign. Regards Rob
