RIP John Hamblin
It is the funeral at Charing today (12 midday) of 50s/60s Ashford Town full back John Hamblin. Dee reminds us that tomorrow marks 6 years since the funeral of fellow Town stalwart Malcolm Collins. For many of us oldies, memories will come flooding back of some special times at Essella Park … a real railway and market town, a working man’s football club that had a special atmosphere for floodlit cup games. John was an uncompromising defender alongside the likes of Norman Stevens and Bob Harris; while further upfield Alec Garden and Laurie Thomson, formerly of Alloa Athletic, were flanked by Malcolm and left winger Billy Rees. Then following Bert Sibley was Crushy, Ray Kemp, Bill Dodge, Bobby Laverick and the one and only late Peter Sillett. Great times … RIP John.
Training schedule for tonight:
Under 10s 5-6pm MUGA (Peter) Can all players sign in on arrival please; plus I would like to talk to all parents before you sign out and leave … food will be provided for the children … thanks DH. Apparently, without consultation, the time is now 6-7pm on grass – so I won’t be giving a Power Point presentation or meet and greet. Have fun.
Under 10s DVS 6-7pm MUGA (Dean)
Under 12s Utilitas 6-7pm North School Hall (Timmy)

Under 8s Global add to coaching staff – Truelove and Collins on board
Under 8s Global were not at their best against at the hands of New Romney on Saturday. Green player of the match Tyler Q with the only goal for Bromley Green Global after seeing his penalty saved. With additions of Damion Truelove and Marc Collins to the coaching team, I am hoping to see a change in fortunes and bring back the level of performance that we were showing through the friendlies, tournaments and first league games. Always good to see former players and managers … two days running we had the pleasure of Jimmy Pickard’s company; although he was limping a tad after Friday’s exploits in the Charity for CALM event!
