Girls into final as treble hopes are still alive – report from Steve Sutton
Today saw the Girls on their travels to Ex-Blues for the Winston Cup semi final. Due to pitch conditions the match location was changed on the Saturday, but that did not scare this bunch of girls. The game started as a 11 a side fixture, the first for this team, and the Bromley Green Girls started the brightest keeping the home team penned in their half of the match for most the first half creating lots of pressure which allowed Ella Roper to open the scoring in the 14th minute with a smart finish from a tight angle. The girls then followed this up 3 minutes later with great inter change of passes between Lucy Griggs and Ella Roper, setting Ella through a group of players to smash the ball past the keeper giving her no chance. As the half drew to a conclusion, in the 33rd minute the Girls won a corner which was swung over by Anya Carroll, perfectly finding Shanie O’Leary unmarked on the box, with a first time shot placing the ball perfectly under the ball leaving the keeper no chance of stopping the shot. The second half saw the home team up their game and try to apply more pressure, creating more trips into our half of the pitch, but leaving themselves open to the counter attack which the Greens did on many occasions with many chances created but unable to convert, but one was converted in the 7th minute of the second half by Ella Roper, with a rasping shot form the edge of the area. Final score 4-0 to the Green Girls, with a cup final to be played in May. Also the next league game is again away to the same side played today, between the top two teams of the division and having a significant say in where the league title may go! Great effort girls and we will enjoy our finals experience!
Winning run comes to an end for U12s Pirtek
A 4-1 home defeat to leaders Woodnesborough won’t, in all honesty, live long in the memory. The scoreline should have been much tighter but that’s football and we must lift ourselves for next week’s visit of Faversham Hurricanes. The Borough manager admitted afterwards we gave them their hardest match to date as his side appear to be heading for the title. Our goal came in the first period from Kris Kostov but careless errors and lack of marking aided our downfall. On the positive side we continue to give chances to those a year younger and this will undoubtedly reap dividends in the future. Charlie Barber added some pace when he came on and deservedly took the Player of the Match accolade. Once again, sincere thanks to the parents who do us proud by putting up goals, barriers etc; plus of course our stand-in linesperson Richard! DH
