Bromley Green U14 Girls report from Steve Sutton

For the second week on the trot the Girls were away to Ex Blues, this time our first meeting in the league this season, but our third meeting overall this season.

The pitch was very soft and a strong wind going the length of the pitch made this a tough game.

The opposition were better prepared this week and played far better than the previous week, with the wind helping them in the first half. The BG Girls fought their way into the game and held the home team in there half for a sustained period but the home side broke against the girls and with a neat finish curling round Lily Sutton in goal to take the lead.

It only took the girls against the wind to level the scores 5 minutes later with Ella Roper driving with ball on the left hand side of the opposition half, spotting Jess Murphy free on the right edge of the box, passed a great ball into Jess’s path for her to finish leaving the Keeper no chance of stopping the shot.

The score remained the same to halftime. Chance for the Girls to get some air back into their lungs, and rest ready for a hard second half with the wind.

The BG Girls started the second half more brightly forcing a few last ditched challenges to prevent shots on goal but the second goal came after another run at the defence from Ella Roper whose cross found Lucy Griggs at the back post whose shot was at the keeper but managed to fumble it over the Line. Lucy has had a knack in the last few games to shadow in at the back post and score a few goals already this season, and a few minutes later it nearly happened again with a great cross from Jess Murphy on the right saw Lucy time her strike well, for the keeper to pull off a great save.

As the second half draw to a close the home side pushed hard as players tired but the back three of Joanne Bamgbose, Amelia Barrett and Nicole Baker held very firm and the few time they were beaten Lily Sutton backed them up mopping anything up. It was also great to see May Farr, making her debut for the team today and fitting in well, enjoying her match experience.

A tough day to play football, but these girls should that they are up to all the challenges put to them so far!
