VE weekend 2020 with Skoda Caffyns

Update Saturday night: sadly, the Hawkinge Tournament, scheduled for 30/31 May is now officially cancelled due to the virus. At the moment, I have no idea if any of the events we planned to enter are going to survive. Updates on here if we hear of any more cancellations. DH

Birthday greetings Saturday to Alex Hebbes and Jacqui Thomas!

Birthday greetings Friday to Toby Galton!

This weekend we had planned to celebrate the 75th anniversary marking the end of the Second World War in Europe with a party and charity event. But we are in lockdown and times are far from normal. Many older readers will have joyful and painful memories and anecdotes passed down from their parents, grandparents, great aunts and uncles and fallen friends. Respect for all those that gave their lives in the cause of freedom … lest we forget.

At this time of reflection for many, our dear friend Steve Mailey forwarded these wonderful words from contemporary author Haroon Rashid. Poems and quotes have dried up recently – do continue to send them in to dhomewood@yahoo.com

“We fell asleep in one world, and woke up in another.

Suddenly Disney is out of magic,
Paris is no longer romantic,
New York doesn’t stand up anymore,
The Chinese wall is no longer a fortress, and Mecca is empty.

Hugs & kisses suddenly become weapons, and not visiting parents & friends becomes an act of love.

Suddenly you realize that power, beauty & money are worthless, and can’t get you the oxygen you’re fighting for.

The world continues its life and it is beautiful. It only puts humans in cages. I think it’s sending us a message:

“You are not necessary. The air, earth, water and sky without you are fine. When you come back, remember that you are my guests. Not my masters.”
