Proud sponsors of Bromley Green FC

Birthday greetings today to Vice President Ian Holloway

PICTURE 71: Two true legends who were central figures in helping to shape the future of Bromley Green FC. Presumably Ian is informing Macca that it is his round! They are pictured here at the 2009 awards ceremony. Glenn still sponsors the club through his business GMC while Ian – it is time we saw you back at the bar mate!

Ian’s association with the club goes back 45 years when he was part of the U15s that joined us from South Ashford Youth Club, then run by Clive Hollyer. Peter Knott, a much revered figure at the club, sadly lost his battle with leukaemia but not before giving so much to the lads and the club. Indeed, it was Peter and his wife Una that helped introduce a new much-envied youth policy in the early 1970s; the foundation block for much of our decades of success. After running the bar for many years as well as playing in midfield, at the back and latterly in goal, Ian was honoured with a Vice Presidency. Ian was soon into management when he tried to tell me how to run the team one Sunday in the Queens Head. The boys in those days had the occasional drink after training and matches and in fact encouraged me into bad habits! Anyway, I suggested to Ian that he might like to manage the side and, to my sheer delight, he said yes! I have never really thanked him for that! His senior record is 380 appearances and 35 goals. Have a great birthday young Holly.
