Monday update as promised: after extensive with talks with ABC, training for the next few weeks at least will carry on as normal at Waterside (same times/same days). However, the asbestos check is taking place as I write and this means all activities need to be at least 50 yards away from the clubhouse and changing unit. Please note there will be no toilets or refreshment facilities available. Thank you for your patience. Those managers/admin that need equipment, I will open the stores at 5pm Tues, Weds, Thurs this coming week. After that, we need to organise storage at the managers or a parents residence during this period. DH
Birthday greetings Monday to Alfie Glendinning and Angela Sorrell!
Training for remainder of summer: update as soon as I have it. DH
Depleted EKYL side comes up trumps with 7-1 away win
Deal Town 1 – 1 Bromley Green U13s Pirtek (Friendly)
With a host of regular players missing for one reason or another, we had a very strange line-up at the Goodwin Academy for our first game for months. But cometh the hour – as the saying goes – and a number of the boys showed their determination to secure a place in the side when the league arrives.
Early exchanges were fairly even but, after a flurry of Green attacks, it was the home team that broke forward and took the lead with a beauty of a back-header by Charlie Bryant – sadly past our keeper Harvey! However, the Green boys were at times a pleasure to watch and the goals flowed from William Spiers (2), Daeyaan (2), skipper Preston, Rieyaan and Harley. With the back four of Ben, Gabriel, Charlie and Thomas working well as a unit, the visitors enjoyed the bulk of possession. Picking a McDonalds Player of the Match was difficult, with William, Josh, Thomas and Preston all worthy candidates; but Gabriel showed that, with belief and continued hard work, he will become a tidy footballer. Thanks go to a fantastic group of supporters/parents and our hosts – who always approach the game in the right spirit. Just the work-out we needed with the emphasis on fitness during training reaping dividends. Competition for places now – great stuff!
Green: Prior; Hatcher, Mika, Bryant, Hawkins, Nuanko R, Webb, Nuanko D, Spiers, Bailey, White

End of an era as facilities prepare for demolition
What can I say about our fantastic Executive and parent volunteers? Three working days notice and we have emptied everything from the changing rooms and clubhouse. People say this is a sad moment for myself. No! It has proved there are still those out there (including some brilliant children) that are willing to give their time for others. You know who you are and once again thank you. A sober thought: it is people that make great clubs, not buildings. But bring it on and for now we have to face challenges that will undoubtedly test our resilience to the limit. Forgotten in the chaos of covid, lockdown and knockdown is the fact that this is our 90th year and I still believe we should celebrate this milestone, including the awards from the past season, at a time that social distancing permits.
