Thursday 21 January 2021 – Happy birthday to Elliot Spiers!

Passing of another football stalwart

We learn of the passing of Bert Sutton, a man who I personally had the honour of knowing for 55 years. Memories of Bert go back to when he combined his work for the Milk Marketing Board with volunteering for Kingsnorth Youth Club and helping the Hovers at what was then Ashford Town FC in the Southern League. Bert, along with wife Ruth, never really stopped with his support for local football and the stories are endless! Condolences and sincere thoughts are extended to Marian and Roy, Anne, Steve and all the family – many that I have not seen for years but will always hold in great affection – and of course great grand daughters Bromley Green FC starlets Lily and Bubba. A fine innings mate … RIP Bert Sutton. Dave Homewood

Why us oldies go on about the past!

The Kop End at Essella Park 6 November 1966 A grainy picture but this is a real football ground and a time when locals showed passion for their Ashford heroes. This game ended Ashford Town 4 Cambridge City 1.

This wretched covid pandemic is not the way we planned to be celebrating our 90th anniversary! Ten seasons ago, times were different for our 80th. Keep safe everyone and let us hope some kind of normality returns soon.

Um … wires everywhere!

50,000 views – but of no real use if we cannot offer anything! How much longer is this nightmare going to last?
