Under 13s Pirtek – slow out of the blocks but take the points
BROMLEY GREEN 4 – 0 FAVERSHAM STRIKE FORCE HURRICANES
Before offering a report on today’s match, thanks go all those that helped with the preparations for staging our return to action. Firstly, without Damion Truelove kindly marking the pitch (literally at the last minute – he only came down to unlock the goals!) we would not have had a match. So a big thank you to Damion for saving us fines, points deduction and total embarrassment!
Having our first game for months, there was some degree of rustiness against a side that has improved since our early-season meeting when we romped in. With a keeper of outstanding ability, the Hurricanes proved stubborn and held on for about 20 minutes before Gabriel Mika grabbed his first-ever goal by slamming home hard and low. Indeed he should have added to his tally but a terrific low drive by Charlie Barton into the far corner made it 2-0 before the interval.
Rotating to give all players equal playing time, we knew a third goal was necessary to see off a plucky Faversham side; and two more came in quick succession via Thomas Hawkins and the wing raider Ben Hatcher.
We were largely in control until the end and, whilst not at our best, this was the perfect work out against a side that earned our respect with not a single foul of note in a sporting encounter. If only every team had that approach! Well done to referee Joshua Cloake who applied common sense throughout.
Overall, three points but a couple of worrying injuries to birthday boy Archie Barker and Joshua Bailey; while a few lads need to work on their fitness as a matter of urgency – this is down to the individual at this age to work away from the club.
Each player contributed with Harvey keeping a clean sheet, captain Preston, Thomas and Charlie Bryant sound at the back. But for his versatility, and attitude of putting the team first, the Player of the Match accolade went to Danny-Lee Watts.
As always, we all chip in with the chores and, as well as parents, thanks to youngsters Harry McRobert and James Truelove for running the line.
Green: Harvey Prior, Ben Hatcher, Archie Barker, Preston Webb, Thomas Hawkins, Rieyaan Naunko, Henry Barnes, Danny-Lee Watts, Charlie Barber, Charlie Bryant, Gabriel Mika, Harley White, Josh Bailey
