Cricket calamity

All out for 68. Congratulations Aussies – but this is pathetic England! How things change as I remember as a child, back in the 1960s, two of England’s greatest ever batsmen being dropped for ‘batting too slow’. Geoff Boycott was punished in June 1967 for slow scoring – he had made 245 not out! Two years earlier ‘The Colonel’, Ken Barrington, who averaged a mere 63.96 against Australia was dropped for taking all day to score 137 at Edgbaston. [Btw only Don Bradman surpassed Barrington’s average in world test cricket]. It’s fashionable nowadays to jump on media bandwagons; but oh for a Boycott or Barrington to stay at the crease for more than five minutes. DH

Enjoy Tuesday – another official Boxing Day Bank Holiday

Happy birthday today to ‘old boy’ sixties star John Page

Advance notice: due to covid cases rapidly growing within our ranks, the Saturday 2pm training slot on 1 January for the new U15s has had to be cancelled. Sorry but nothing we can do. Next session is planned for Saturday 8 January 2022. We all love our football; but I do hope everyone recognises that taking unnecessary risks at present would be bonkers! Thank you DH

WELFARE MESSAGE: Due to covid cases still going up fast each day there will be no training or friendly games at Waterside now until the New Year. The premises will remain shut now until the New Year. FURTHER UPDATES UPON OFFICIAL FA DIRECTIVES.
