Plans for two teams at U13 level going well

Some of the players at the U13 get-together on Sunday

Despite the unfriendly weather and soaking underfoot conditions, the first moves were made on Sunday towards establishing a side in both the Ashford and East Kent Youth Leagues. The 14 players that took part in a training session enjoyed themselves and followed with pizza, chips, chocs and squash. The weather put the mockers on a planned attractive afternoon run-out against Canterbury Eagles but Martyn and Scott are confident that, over the next couple of months, a strong squad will be ready to challenge in both leagues. Details of more preparatory trials/friendlies will be published soon.

Title rivals suffer surprise defeat

Recent weeks have produced some weird results in the EKYL (U14). No hiding our disappointment last week with the home loss to Faversham Town but incredibly we received a huge and unexpected boost to our title bid yesterday with Faversham losing 2-1 away to Deal Town Rangers. You couldn’t make it up! As the great Greavsie famously once said, it is a “Funny Old Game”.

Rearranged fixture this week at home to Faversham Strike Force Hurricanes and, on the following Sunday (20 March), we are away to East Kent FC in another crucial game.

Results

Deal Town Rangers 2-1 Faversham Town

East Kent FC 5-0 Herne Bay Cobras

Under 16s

It’s all very tight at the top of the table but, if we win our remaining game, the title is ours. Only one game survived this weekend with Pilgrims just edging their home game with Staplehurst 2-1. Next Saturday the Skoda Caffyn squad are in cup action against Hythe Town at Waterside.

Sunday Senior Reserves DNS went down 2-0 at Lydd. A cracking game until things turned hostile and ended in farcical circumstances.
