Player of the Match Shannon

No match this weekend

We do have a match arranged for Sunday 22nd at home to Ridgewaye though. With 1 or 2 girls already confirmed unavailable, can you all let me or Phil know asap that you can make the match.  After such a good run of results and with Thanet losing at the weekend,  we still need to field as strong a team as possible for this match to continue our push for the league .

Training for everybody Thursday night at Waterside, we are expecting some new faces this week.

Also, look out for a sponsor night at McDonalds town centre restaurant in the next couple weeks.

See you all soon, have a nice weekend off.

Regards Alan

What a fantastic result last weekend.  Margate are always tough opposition, all the goals we scored (Aileen, Izzy & Abbey) were from excellent passing and teamwork.  When Margate pushed more players forward in 2nd half our defending was strong and we didn’t give many chances on goal.  Well done to Shannon who was McDonalds Player of the Match, well deserved.

From Alan re Sunday 8 February 2015

This weekend we entertain Margate at Waterside.  KO will be 10:00, if we can all meet at the ground for 09:15, this is obviously dependant on the weather and ground conditions.  Please keep an eye on the website, emails & texts for updates, there are already arrangements in place with Margate, should our pitch not recover in time we will need to travel over to Thanet to play.  Fingers crossed we get some dry days, albeit freezing Squad:  Abi, Shannon, Ciena, Izzy R, Lucy, Abbey, Izzy G, Tia, Aileen, Keeley, Jodie
Any problems let me or Phil know.

Well played to all the girls on Sunday, another excellent performance.
This weekend we have a massive match against league leaders Thanet Colts at Waterside. We really need 100% attendance from all players to field as strong a side as possible.
KO will be 10:00am, if everybody can meet up for 9:15 so we get warmed up and ready.
Don’t forget training in Thursday night at Waterside from 6pm.
Any problems please let us know.

Abbey D and Aileen [right] hit four apiece with the tally completed by Izzy R and Tia; but credit to Anchorian Angels who kept battling away against the odds on a difficult pitch. Match date: 11 January 2015
Long Lane 3-6 Bromley Green
Report from Alan Paggett
BG Girls returned to league action for the first time in nearly a month after bad weather and the Christmas break stopped play in recent weeks.  Hoping for a positive result to start the new year, we embarked on the third lengthy trip of the season up to Long Lane, where the girls took time to get going on the cold and windy morning in SE London. After being denied a few goals by the Long Lane keeper, the Green girls finally made the breakthrough with Izzy G shooting low to beat the goalie after twenty minutes and then doubling the lead five minutes later with some nifty footwork. Aileen got back on the goal trail with her own brace in the late half to give Bromley a comfortable lead; although the home team pulled one back just before the break.
The BG Girls quickly got into their stride in the 2nd half. Two more early goals from Aileen putting the game beyond doubt, although Long Lane pulled two more goals back to keep the Green girls on their toes. The Londerners’ keeper did keep the deficit down with a string of saves to deny the girls a scoreline their attacking dominance deserved.
Squad: Abi, Shannon, Ciena, Izzy R, Jodie, Keeley, Lucy, Izzy G, Tia, Abbey, Aileen.
Goalscorers: Aileen (4) Izzy G (2)
McDonalds POM: Izzy G
All note that we will be training at North School tomorrow (Monday) from 6:00pm & weather permitting on Thursday at Waterside from 6:00pm.

Update: Sunday please meet in the clubhouse by 10am

Please note that the draw for this season’s Tina Marshall Trophy has been concluded and the fixtures are now posted on the website.
First round matches for most age groups start on 7th December 2014.
This date has been listed on fixture sheets as “Cup Weekend” since the start of the season.
If you have any issues on your fixtures, please speak with your Admin Officer in the first instance.
For those of you who may be unaware I have also included below some back ground on the Trophy and on Tina Marshall and the reasons behind the naming of the trophy.  Please forward this on to your team managers.Tina Marshall – Background
In 1994 Tina was involved in setting up a girls team. With only a few teams active in the Medway/Maidstone area they got together to play friendly matches. During that period Tina had been in contact with Medway Council to gain funding for a girls league with the few teams playing. Tina successfully gained the funding and the Medway Girls league was set up .
Whilst developing her own girls club, Tina also gained support from the KFA. It took many meetings to convince the KFA that girls football was here to stay and needed their support. Tina was a determined lady and made sure the support came her way to move forward and so the Kent Girls & Ladies League was born. She attended meetings at the Football Association to represent our region and so the league grew and grew with teams from all over Kent applying to join, spearheaded by Tina.
Without Tina’s dedication to the leagues development and publicising girls football we may not have been where the league is now and we all owe a great thanks to her,
Some years ago it was decided that the League should name a cup competition after Tina, which she agreed to and was overjoyed at presenting on Cup Finals Day. As some of you may know, Tina unfortunately passed away a few years ago and has been sorely missed, but she has left behind a legacy of which we should all be grateful for.
Tina Marshall Trophy
The Trophy is a second cup competition run each season for the U11 to U18 Age groups. The draw is made for all teams except the 4 sides that have progressed to the main League Cup Semi Finals.  Where numbers are lower, the draw will be made for all teams except for the 2 League Cup Finalists (this is the case for the U14 age group in 2014/15).

Update and match report from Alan

This weekend we will be entertaining Anchorian Angels at Waterside in the KGLFL League Cup.  KO time is 10:00am, so normal arrangements, if we can all meet by 09:15 for a warm-up.

Squad:  Abi P, Shannon, Ciena, Izzy R, Jodie, Keeley, Abbey D, Tia, Lucy, Izzy G, Aileen.

Disappointment all round after Sunday’s defeat spoiled our so far excellent start to the season.  I thought both keepers played very well on Sunday, unfortunately for us it was the difference in a game we dominated.  So we’ll pick ourselves up and get on with the season.  As you are all aware we have been struggling with our training night, with some girls having left during the summer, and girls at PDC or Kent Schools which has left us short on a Monday night.  So on a  positive note we will be changing our training night to a Thursday 6-7 at Waterside under the floodlights.  Hopefully you are able to support this change so we can get as many girls as possible back training together every week, restoring our famous Bromley Green team spirit and showing this league we are the best U14 girls team in Kent.

Any problems please let me or Phil know.

21.9.2014 Alan Paggett reports on a crucial win in Thanet
With a tough game expected, as always when we visit Thanet, the BG Girls were looking for a positive result this morning at Margate,  last seasons league winners, to continue our good start to the new season.  With both teams defending in strength, there were few chances in the first half. The Green girls went close having a couple of chances cleared off the goal line, until a fantastic volleyed goal from Aileen broke the deadlock. Abi P saved well from two long range efforts before Margate were awarded a penalty and equalised just before half-time.
The second half kicked off with both teams playing some excellent football and Margate broke through, taking the lead, after another long range effort rebounded kindly for their centre forward to score from close range. This spurred the Bromley Green girls into action, piling on the pressure with Izzy G, Ciena, Abbey and Aileen all going close before a well worked corner was flicked on by Tia and Izzy R slamming in the equaliser. Despite wanting to push on for another goal, the girls remained patient, shutting out all Margate’s attacks in the closing 10 mins and pushing the opponents back with quick counter attacking on the break. With just two minutes remaining, Abbey D linked up with Lucy for a quick one-two down the left wing and, stepping inside the last Margate defender, slotted in the winning goal for a well deserved victory for Bromley Green.

Match date: 14 September 2014
KGLFL U14
Tunbridge Wells 1-2 Bromley Green
Report by Alan Paggett
The BG Girls kicked off the new season with a tough away fixture against Tunbridge Wells Ladies this morning. With limited players, due to absence and squad withdrawals over the last few weeks, the girls knew this was going to be hard work at the Ridgewaye ground but were determined to get a positive result to start their new campaign.  Bromley Green had the run of play throughout the first half, the Tunbridge keeper saving shots from Izzy G, Aileen, Lucy & Tia. Strong defending from Ciena, Shaz, Izzy and Abi limited the opponents to a few half chances, keeping the scoreline all square at half-time.
The second half kicked off in much the same vein, Bromley on the attack and the keeper saving well on numerous occasions. But after slick play in the midfield Izzy G broke free on the wing, cut inside the full back and smashed a low drive into the bottom corner to put the visitors ahead after 10 mins. A second goal was always on the cards and, Player of the Match, Izzy added another after more good forward play had created an opening. Keeley almost capped her fantastic 2nd half performance with a long range effort that just skimmed the crossbar, but Tunbridge were given hope when the Green girls lost Aileen to injury and pulled one goal back after a defensive mix-up gifted them with a free header. Despite the nerves and being one player down Bromley held out to take all the points.
Final score: Tunbridge Wells Ladies 1-2 Bromley Green (Goals: Izzy G 2)
Mcdonalds PoM Izzy G
Abi P, Shannon D, Ciena C, Izzy R, Lucy S, Keeley F, Izzy G, Tia B, Aileen W.

Information update from Alan
Please note that next week’s training [7 July 2014] will be starting back at the normal time of 6:00PM again (just for one week).  As a whole year has passed since we joined Bromley Green the time has come around to renew our registration documents with both the club & league.  I have emailed you all copies to print off, sign and complete beforehand, if you can all bring them along to training on Monday I can get all the paperwork submitted to meet the end of July deadline. I will have copies available on Monday if you want to fill them in at the ground.

For the league form we will need two passport type  photos (different to last year’s) and the completed form.  NO COPIES OF ID REQUIRED AS WE CAN USE LAST SEASONS REGISTRATION NUMBERS.  The pictures need to be head & shoulders and can be ones that you copy & paste from a digital photo and print at home, rather than spending £5 at the photo booth or if you want to send me a copy I can print them off at work.

For the club registration you will need to provide the £25 Annual Subscription.

Any problems let me know.

Kent Girls & Ladies League Cup Final
Bromley Green 2-0 Real Gima
Alan Paggett reports from Cobdown on an historic day in our club’s history
Bromley Green Girls U13 were victorious this weekend in their Kent Girls & Ladies League Cup Final.  Despite a nervous start and an early injury to Keeley F, Bromley Green took control of this match in the first half and dominated throughout creating clear goal-scoring chances for Izzy G, Abbey D & Alieen W, only to be frustrated by the Gima keeper time and  time again.  At the other end the Green defence stood firm, limiting Real Gima to one strike, comfortably dealt with by skipper Abi P in goal.  But for all  their possession the opening goal would not come and the teams went into the half-time break all square.

Green attack during a goalless opening half ... but it all came good in the end ... more photos to follow and also on the Home Page

Green attack during a goalless opening half … but it all came good in the end … more photos to follow and also on the Home Page

The second half began in much the same vein, Bromley Green pushing forward looking for an opener, which eventually came after good work on the right from Izzy R & Tia B and when the ball fell for Aileen W in the penalty area and she stroked home her 47th league & cup goal of the season; much to the relief of the Green players & supporters.  Real Gima, now running out of time, were pushing forward looking for the equaliser. Bromley Green centre back Ciena C picking the ball up on the edge of her own penalty box, sprinted into the opposition half beating three or four Gima defenders and with space opening up, moved forward and put the result beyond doubt with a fantastic solo finish.

Final Score: Bromley Green Girls 2 – 0  Real Gima
BG Girls Squad: Abi P, Shannon D, Isabel R, Ciena C, Keeley F, Izzy G, Tia B, Abbey D, Aileen W, Lucy S, Jodie F, Lucy S
Goalscorers: Aileen W, Ciena C.

Fantastic effort from all the girls at the weekend rounding off the league season with another great win.

Just to confirm there will be no training next Monday.  We will return to training on Monday 28th at Waterside 6:00 – 7:15ish to start preparing for the cup final on 11th May.   We are trying to arrange a friendly prior to the big match and I will keep you posted on details as I have them.

Also we have been invited to the Inter-Counties (Kent, Surrey, Hertfordshire & Essex) Champions League Competition in Brentwood, Essex on 8th June.  Obviously a great opportunity for the girls to play against the top U13 teams (Top 2 from each county division) in those area and a massive compliment to Bromley Green Girls (the best U13 girls team in Kent in my unbiased opinion).  Hopefully you will all be available for this day so we can send as strong a squad as possible.  Let me know availability as soon as possible so we can confirm arrangements with the hosts at Great Danes YFC.

As always thanks for all your support throughout the season now we  look forward to the Cup Final & Summer Tournaments.

Best Wishes to you all for the Easter break.

One last effort for the league Girls!

Bromley Green 5-2 Real Gima
Report by Alan Paggett
In a dress rehearsal for the May Cup Final, the BG Girls were back on form this morning at Waterside, against Real Gima.  With all the girls fired up after last weekend’s disappointment, they started off  determined not to concede a goal.  Defending in strength and closing down the opposition quickly,  setting up counter attacks down both wings, Ciena & Keeley were the stand out players in the centre of defence.  Izzy R, playing in the unfamiliar right back position, kept the main Gima attacking threat quiet throughout the match.
With the Green Girls on the attack again, Aileen was tripped and the referee pointed to the penalty spot.  Aileen dusted herself down and stepped up to strike home and put the girls ahead.  Growing in confidence the BG Girls continued breaking out from defence, with Tia & Izzy G always threatening on both wings and Aileen twisting and turning through the middle causing problems for the Gima defence.  The Bromley girls went further ahead when Lucy struck again for the fourth straight game, by chasing another loose ball it paid off and she bundled home from close range.
The visitors hit back just before the break and the girls went into half-time with a well deserved lead.
With the game still close in the opening 10 minutes of the second half with both teams battling to control the midfield, Gima pushed forward looking for an equaliser.  The BG defence were caught napping from one corner and let the away team back into the match briefly…
From the re-start Izzy G took the ball on the left wing and surged into the opposition half, taking a left foot shot from outside the area and flew into the top corner of the goal to restore the Green girls lead.  Surely a contender for goal of the season?  From there on in, the Bromley Girls were on top and Gima had no answer to Izzy G.  Two further goals completing her hat-trick and a well deserved player of the match award.
An all round terrific performance by the girls,  great teamwork throughout,  defensively by Abi, Shannon, Jodie, Ciena, Izzy & Keeley and in attack from Lucy, Tia, Izzy G, Aileen, Lucy.

Title hopes dented … cup final opponents at Waterside this Sunday
Alan Paggett reports from Waterside Sunday 16 March 2014
The Girls league title hopes were dented after a disappointing home defeat against Thanet Colts Green.  The visitors got off to a flying start, scoring in the opening five minutes, when a long ball pumped into the Green half beat the defence, who struggled to cope with the hard ground all game.  The Thanet forwards reacting quicker to the high bounce for an easy headed goal.  The BG Girls battled all match, actually getting the ball in the net once when Izzy R struck a long range free kick, only for the ref to disallow the goal for an infringement in the penalty area. But struggled to break down the packed Thanet defence, who once again used the long ball to great effect later in the half, taking a two goal lead into the break.
A change around at half time paid off when Lucy S, playing alongside Aileen up front,  pulled a goal back for the Green girls.  But for all their hard work, pressure and possession the girls could not find another way through.  Thanet extending their lead further after being awarded a free kick late in the game, the resulting strike took an awkward bounce and bobbled over Abi in the goal to complete a miserable morning for the team.
Hopefully just one of those days. Heads up Girls, next weekend we entertain our Cup Final opponents Real Gima at Waterside for another tough league match.

Meridian 2-5 Bromley Green
Report by Alan Paggett

9.3.2014 BG Girls PoM Keeley Finn2At last the sun is shining, but it seemed to make the girls a little sleepy in this morning’s outing to Chatham.  Going behind to an early goal meant the girls had to battle against a strong, quick  Meridian defence throughout the game.  Putting the disappointing start behind them, the Green girls soon started to wake up and levelled the scores with Izzy G finishing off a well worked move with a low strike beyond the Meridian keeper’s reach.  Despite the majority of the game being played in the midfield area, Bromley kept plugging away with further goals from Aileen and a stunning long range strike from Tia,  giving the girls a comfortable 3-1 half-time lead.
The introduction of Lucy S after the break produced more Bromley Green chances early in the second half and all her hard work was rewarded with a goal after 15 mins.  Meridian did manage to pull one back, but the Green girls were relaxed in defence, lead by Ciena, Izzy R (who was denied a goal after a rocket shot hit the bar and bounced back out from the goal)  & McDonalds’ Player of the Match Keeley F.  Tia B rounded off a hard working victory with a curling goal straight from a corner and the girls saw out the remainder of the game without incident.

Revised fixtures for the remainder of the season

Match date: 2 March 2014
Kent Girls & Ladies Football League
Bromley Green 7-3 Ridgewaye
Alan Paggett reports from Tunbridge Wells
The Bromley Green Girls beat-the-winter-weather tour of Kent continued this weekend with a hastily re-arranged HOME match in Tunbridge Wells, finding the girls up against Ridgewaye FC.   The team were forced into re-shuffling the defence, Ciena & Jaz with family commitments and Jodie & Madi falling ill and having to withdraw from the team on Sunday morning.  The rest of the squad pulled together in difficult, windy conditions to keep out the Ridgewaye attacks during the first half.  Defending their position at the top of the league, with few chances in the game, Aileen W put the Green girls ahead with a breakaway goal  but Ridgewaye, taking full advantage of their home pitch knowledge, equalised with a long range down-hill strike that flew in to the net on the strong wind; the girls going into the break with a well deserved 1-1 scoreline.
The half-time substitute, Lucy Smith, made an immediate impact putting the Bromley Girls ahead within two minutes of the re-start, only for Ridgewaye to draw level again.  Using the advantage of the slope of the pitch and the wind to their favour this half, the girls pushed forward again and again. Another two goals in quick succession from Abbey D and a second from Lucy giving them a more comfortable lead; with the opposition tiring, the girls attacking, McDonalds’ Player of the Match, Tia B set up Aileen & Abbey for one goal each and Izzy G, with a lovely half volley from the edge of the penalty area, put the final result beyond doubt.
Well done to all the girls, great effort today; the defence Abi P, Shannon D, Izzy R, Keeley F & Izzy G who all worked their socks off and Lucy, Lucy, Aileen, Tia & Abbey for great attacking teamwork.
Scorers: Lucy S (2), Aileen W (2), Abbey D (2), Izzy G

Six of the best from Bromley Green Girls
Alan Paggett reports from Dane Park, Margate
Thanet Colts Yellow 0-6 Bromley Green
The BG Girls continued their recent run of impressive form at rivals Thanet Colts Yellows on Sunday.  With the fixture being re-arranged due to the current conditions at Waterside, an unexpected trip to Margate provided another tricky away match for the girls.  After an early injury to their keeper and Thanet defending in numbers, the BG Girls struggled to make headway and were beginning to show signs of frustration, but after 20mins they finally found an opening through Aileen W and then doubled the score two minutes later, both goals set up by Mcdonalds Player of the Match, Abbey D.  Aileen completed her hat-trick with a superbly worked goal, started by Izzy R & Tia in the midfield playing in Abbey on the left wing again, who provided the perfect cross.   Ciena adding a fourth before half-time, taking on four Thanet defenders before slotting the ball into the bottom corner to round off an excellent first half.  Losing Abi P through injury during the break meant a re-shuffle for the girls, with Ciena taking up goalkeeping duties, but the girls set about seeing the remainder of the match out, further goals from Tia B, with a lovely low strike and one more from Aileen, taking her total for the season to 33, rounded off another clean sheet success.  Some credit to the Thanet Girls for all their efforts, after being reduced to seven players meant they had to work extremely hard throughout the match.

Woodcombe v Bromley Green                                               26th January 2014
In keeping with the recent wet conditions, the wind and rain turned up just in time for the start of our visit to Sittingbourne’s Woodcombe Youth.  Despite the terrible weather, the girls worked hard from the kick off; Aileen, Tia, Izzy G & Lucy S all producing good attacking play but being frustrated by the packed Woodcombe defence.  The deadlock was broken after 10mins when Aileen played in Tia on the right for a fine strike into the bottom corner.

With the home team continuing their defensive tactics the BG Girls started to dominate the midfield areas, Ciena & Izzy R especially taking advantage of the extra space created by ever deeper defending.  Izzy R scoring two goals from long range either side of well worked goals by Aileen & Izzy G, meant Bromley Green going into the break comfortably ahead 5-0.

The second half began in much the same vein, Madi N starting her first game in defence for the Green girls alongside Ciena, Keeley F, Jodie & Shazza, helping Abi P in goal to their second straight clean sheet.  The mud, rain and cold wind definitely hampered the girls on both sides but the Green girls dug in and continued to play their passing football throughout the match.  Izzy R completed her hat-trick with another long range shot, Ciena now pushing forward from defence scored two more goals and Aileen added one more which capped a fine all round display from the girls. As this was the only match this weekend that beat the weather means the Girls close the gap on the top team; the three points sending us second in the league.

Well done Girls!

Slight change to the arrangements for this weekend.  We will now be playing AWAY at Woodcombe on Sunday.  KO for this match is 11:00am, can we all meet up at the clubhouse for 09:00.  We’ll be aiming to arrive at the ground for 10:15.

Looking towards the weekend with Alan Paggett

This weekend we have a very important home match against Real Gima, our opponents for the cup final in May and currently undefeated in the league, so we’re hoping for a big performance after the excellent result on Sunday.  KO is 10:00.  Can all the girls please meet at the clubhouse for 09:00 to get ready and warm-up.

Obviously this will be subject to weather conditions, the pitches are still very wet at present and with more rain forecast it will be touch and go.  We’ll let you know once we get any news and Dave updates the website regularly, so keep an eye out for pitch inspection information.

12.1.2014 Great win at Anchorian Angels today
Report by Alan Paggett
Despite a very heavy pitch and freezing wind the girls kicked off the new year with an impressive 12-0 win in Gillingham yesterday against Anchorian Angels.  After a slow start to the match the girls began to build on their defensive strength, counter attacking through excellent play on both wings from Abbey D & Izzy G and took the lead after 15 minutes through the seasons leading scorer Aileen W.  Regardless of the difficult conditions the girls kept plugging away and the Anchorian defence worked hard to keep each attack out.  Further good work from Tia B & Izzy R, in central midfield led to the Green girls creating plenty more opportunities, Aileen completing her hat-trick before half-time.
The girls came out for the second half all fired up (probably trying to keep warm!) and  netted 3 goals in the opening two minutes.  There was no coming back for Anchorian after this and the Green girls flooded forward, Abbey D (2) Lucy S (2), Izzy G (1) and Aileen completing a personal tally of 7.   A very good all round performance and excellent preparation for the visit of Real Gima to Waterside next weekend.

Green Girls march into the League Cup Final
Match date: 8 December 2013
KGLFL U13 League Cup Semi Final
Meridian Girls 1-6 Bromley Green Girls
Report by Alan Paggett
Bromley Green Girls overcame a strong Meridian team this morning, securing a place in the KGLFL U13 League Cup final in May 2014.
Having to contend with a sloping pitch in the first half, the girls knew that they would have to work hard against the Meridian long ball tactics.  The defence worked tirelessly for the opening 10 minutes, quickly closing down any attacks; Ciena & Izzy R sweeping up any loose balls in central defence and Abi commanding her penalty area saving three times at the feet of the Meridian forwards.  As the girls’ confidence started to grow, they began attacking down more often using both wingers to take the game to Meridian.
Player of the Match, Abbey D, opened the scoring after a great team move, which finally settled the cup nerves. The Green girls kept working very hard, always building from their strong defence, passing through the midfield and creating chances for Lucy S and Izzy G before top scorer Aileen hit two more in quick succession to extend the BG Girls lead.  A free kick just outside the Green area led to Meridian pulling one goal back, but this only stirred the girls to raise their game again; Abbey scoring again and Aileen completing her hat-trick before half-time.  The Girls led 5-1 at the break.
The girls carried on in the same vein during the second half, always keeping any Meridian attacks at bay through strong defending by Keeley, LuLu & Shazza. Breaking forward as a team and creating more chances for Tia, Izzy G, Izzy R & Abbey.  Ciena scored one final late goal to stretch the lead but all the hard work in the first half had paid off and the cup final place was safe.
Well done girls! Phil & Alan, in fact the whole club, are very proud of you all for reaching the cup final.  The date for your diaries is 11 May 2014.
Back to League action next weekend with another tough away trip to Thanet Colts Green.

KGLFL U13 League Cup
Bromley Green Girls 4-1Thanet Colts Green
Report by Alan Paggett
After a three week break due to half term and last weekend’s miserable weather Bromley Green Girls returned to action this weekend in the KGLFL League Cup, hoping to maintain their recent winning run.
The Green girls began slowly and struggled to break down the Thanet team, who played with five in defence for the majority of the game. During the opening twenty minutes Tia, Abbey, Lucy & Aileen worked hard in attack without creating a clear opening, but after a pinpoint corner from Player of the Match Tia, Abbey struck the opening goal to put the Green ahead.  Thanet had one or two chances on the break; Abi saving bravely at the feet of one attacker to keep the Bromley advantage.  Although she had little chance with the Thanet equaliser, a great strike by the Thanet winger into the roof of the net from 18yrds, sending both teams into the half-time break all square.
With some changes required during the break; Izzy reverting to centre back, Lulu playing left wing, Tia moving to the right and Aileen upfront, the team started the second half much stronger. Pressing the Thanet defence back into their own half and creating plenty of scoring opportunities, particularly from Tia’s crossing & passing on the right wing and Lulu on the left.  Aileen pushed forward again and again before finally striking two goals within a few minutes of each other; the second set up by Izzy’s long through ball, the pick of the two.  Again, Thanet responded and Abi made another brave save to stop any chance of a comeback.  Ciena wrapped things up with a fine strike to send the girls through to the League Cup Semi-Finals next month.  Well done girls, another good performance, especially the defence (Abi, Izzy, Keeley, Shazza, Jodie & Ciena) in the 2nd half today.
Team Line-Up Abi P, Shannon D, Keely F, Jodie F, Ciena C, Abbey D, Tia B, Lucy S, Aileen W, Lucy S, Jaz W
Final Score:  Bromley Green 4–1 Thanet Colts Green

Bromley Green Girls 5-1 Meridian Girls
Report by Alan Paggett
Bromley Green Girls continued their recent good form this morning at Waterside against an improving Meridian side.
As expected, with both teams currently in the top three of the league, the game began with both midfields cancelling each other out.  Once the Green Girls got into their rhythm, they started to stretch the Meridian defence and create chances.  The deadlock was broken on fifteen minutes after a sweeping Bromley move involving Shannon, Abbey, Tia, Aileen and was finished by new signing Izzy G, putting Meridian on the back foot as they struggled to contain the BG attackers.
Despite the blustery conditions the defence held firm, not giving Meridian any chances of note in the first half.  With Ciena, Shannon and, player of the match, Jodie winning challenges time & time again.  With the supurb passing of the Bromley midfield and forward running from the wings, Izzy G & Aileen were able to extend the lead further; the Green leading 3-0 at half time.
The BG Girls were fired up for the second half and instantly took the game back to Meridian, piling on the early pressure with Aileen netting her 13th goal of the season. Izzy G completed her hat-trick with a stunning volley from 18yds for an impressive debut.
After those early goals, The Meridian Girls started putting up more of a fight, closing down the Bromley attackers and restricting the girls to longer range efforts.  Abbey D, Ciena & Tia all went close with fine strikes and Lucy S was denied twice by the opposition’s keeper.  Meridian did manage to break through on one counter-attack reducing the deficit, but were later frustrated by Abi in goal, saving bravely at the feet of the Meridian No.9 to keep us comfortably ahead.  With the introduction of Keeley F & Lulu in midfield Bromley saw out the rest of the half defending strongly, not giving the opposition any chance to settle on the ball or create any further chances.
All in all, another very good performance against a strong team.  Well done again Girls.
Team Line-Up Abi P, Shannon D, Keely F, Jodie F, Ciena C, Abbey D, Tia B, Lucy S, Aileen W, Lucy S, Izzy G
Final Score:  Bromley Green 5 – 1 Meridian Girls
Scorers: Izzy G (3), Aileen W (2),
McDonalds Player of the Match: Jodie F.

Ridgewaye FC 2-4 Bromley Green Girls
Report by Alan Paggett
Bromley Green Girls overcame torrential rain in Tunbridge Wells to record their first away win of the season at Ridgewaye FC this weekend.
The Green Girls fielded a changed formation this week with Izzy R dropping into defence, Tia playing a more central role & Aileen starting out wide on the right.  Despite the changes, BG Girls took the game to Ridewaye early in the first half creating plenty of chances with Aileen, Lucy & Abbey going close. It didn’t take very long for the Girls to open the score with the ball being played out of midfield by Ciena to Aileen on the right, who cut inside her marker and slotted it in from close range.
Ridgewaye did have their moments and capitalised on a mix up in the Green midfield to break out and score an equaliser after twenty minutes, but the Green girls kept on pressing forward and, despite the soaking weather, kept passing the ball around creating chance after chance. Aileen won the “crossbar challenge game” after her third shot rebounded back off the woodwork. The players & supporters’ frustration grew as the Ridgwaye keeper got in the way of more shots from the BG attackers; eventually the Green girls re-took the lead after another attack was turned in by a Ridgewaye defender for an own-goal and Bromley Green went into the break leading 2-1.
With the rain easing off, Bromley Green came out attacking at the start of the 2nd half and immediately put on the pressure, penning Ridgwaye into their half of the field for the first twenty minutes.  A lovely sweeping move started by Tia’s accurate pass out to the left, finding Abbey D, who crossed for Aileen to finish with a volley for the goal of the match.  Jaz, Lucy & Tia went close with more opportunities and Aileen hit the crossbar…again, before Abbey D added a well deserved individual goal to put the game beyond Ridgewaye.  Even though with 10 minutes left they did pull a goal back, the BG Girls played out the remainder of the game. The defence staying firm and the excellent Izzy ensuring that anymore attacks were blocked and The Green took three hard earned points in awful conditions.
All the Bromley Green Girls can be very pleased with their contribution in this game and should take confidence from the performance into next week’s tough game against Meridian at Waterside
Team Line-Up Abi P, Shannon D, Keely F, Jodie F, Ciena C, Abbey D, Izzy R, Tia B, Lucy S, Aileen W, Lucy S, Jazmin W.
Final Score:  Ridgewaye 2–4 Bromley Green
Scorers: Aileen W (2), Abbey D (1), OG (1)

Thanet Colts Yellows 4-3 Bromley Green
Report by Alan Paggett
The Girls awayday woes continued this weekend in a seven-goal thriller at Thanet –   The first half was close fought and end to end with both teams goalkeepers being called into action throughout.  Thanet took the lead after fifteen minutes after a quick counter-attack down the Bromley Green left, but the BG girls didn’t give up and took the game back to Thanet, equalising after Shannon played in Abbey with a defence splitting pass through the Thanet defence, Abbey smashing in a shot from the edge of the penalty area.
Both teams started the second half in much the same way, with Aileen, Abbey & Tia all going close before Thanet took the lead again and extending it further shortly after.  At 3-1 down the BG Girls knuckled down, putting the Thanet defence under pressure, attacking down both wings and forcing plenty of corners before Aileen pulled one back and then minutes later Tia bundled a corner over the line for a deserved equaliser.
Once again Thanet broke quickly and took the lead, the Bromley girls went on the attack again, peppering the Thanet goal without luck.  We thought we had equalised in the last minute when Aileen went through and buried her shot in the bottom corner, only for the referee to pull the play back for a dubious offside decision.
Despite the disappointing result this really was an exciting, entertaining match and the girls should be proud of their efforts. Keep playing like this and the results will come.
Well played Girls! You deserved at least a point.
Team Line-Up Abi P, Shannon D, Keely F, Jodie F, Ciena C, Abbey D, Izzy R, Tia B, Lucy S, Aileen W, Lucy S,.
Final Score:  Thanet Colts Yellow 4–3 Bromley Green
Scorers: Abbey D 1, Aileen W 1, Tia B 1
Player of the Match: Ciena C

Saturday 28 September 2013: The BG Girls have been offered the opportunity to lead out the 1st Team on Saturday at Homelands and look after ball-girl duties for the match. We can also have a training session on the pitch beforehand, which would be nice for the girls as we are hoping to arrange a match there later in the season and it’s good local coverage for our sponsor, McDonalds.  If you’re free on Saturday afternoon it would be great if we could get as many as possible along to support the 1st Team.  Meet time is 12:45 at Homelands, match KO is 2:15.

Admission for the girls is free of course and The Patron will treat them all to a drink afterwards. All persons aged under 16 enjoy free entry to the stadium and the facilities but please note there is a nominal £3 admission charge for all adults.

Sunday 29 September 2013: away to Thanet Colts Yellow with a 10am meeting at our ground. Kick off at Hartsdown Park is 12 noon and the postcode is CT9 5RE.

Bromley Green Girls 12-3 Ebbsfleet United
Report by Alan Paggett
Bromley Green Girls returned to ‘winning ways’ with a comprehensive victory over Ebbsfleet Utd at Waterside this weekend.  After last week’s disappointment, and with Fleet coming into the match on the back of their first win, any early nerves we had were soon settled when Izzy swung in a corner from the left for Aileen to score in the opening minutes. Bromley, looking the more comfortable of the teams, kept pushing forward and two further corners resulted in a 10min hat-trick for Aileen.
The Green Girls, fielding a changed formation this week, broke quickly from defence with Izzy & Ciena finding the front players time and time again. Tia & Abbey went close before Lucy beat the keeper with a low shot after being put clean through on goal by Izzy. Abbey added another couple; one a twenty-five yard free kick which curled in after Ciena was fouled.
The Fleet were limited to a few chances in the opening 35mins. Abi saving well at the feet of one attack, a close range shot scrambled away from a corner and a great finger-tipped save onto the bar.  Ebbsfleet did manage to score late in the half with a cracking long range shot flying into the top corner. From the resulting kick-off Bromley attacked and Ciena increased the lead again, the Green leading 8-1 at half-time.
The Girls moved Tia into a central role in the 2nd half to counter Ebbsfleet’s more defensive line-up and after a slow start two the Green soon got back into their stride. Two assists from Tia provided Abbey with her own hat-trick goal and set up Ciena for another long range strike and another Green hat-trick.
Despite the score-line, Ebbsfleet kept pressing and responded with two strikes of their own later in the match.  Again, the Green girls responded with Izzy firing in a sweet shot with the outside of her foot and in the closing moments one more corner delivered from the left by Abbey gave, Player of the Match, Aileen the chance to rifle in an unstoppable volley to wrap up the game.
One final mention for Shannon, Keeley, Jodie & Jazmin for all working hard in defence restricting the Ebbsfleet forwards to just a few opportunities in the game and for keeping their concentration throughout.  Keep it up girls!  Another tough game next week at Thanet Colts.
Team Line-Up Abi P, Shannon D, Keely F, Jodie F, Ciena C, Abbey D, Izzy R, Tia B, Lucy S, Aileen W, Lucy S, Jazmin W.

Real Gima 6-1 Bromley Green
Report by Alan Paggett
The Girls first away fixture of the new season turned out to be a good competitive game – but a bitterly disappointing result for the Green. Despite that, the game was an excellent advert for girls’ football with both teams producing some great attacking play particularly in the opening 30mins.  Bromley Green went close to scoring with Tia, Abbey, Aileen, Izzy & Lucy all having attempts either well saved by the Gima keeper or kept out by the woodwork.
Abi, Shannon, Keeley & Jodie in defence were keeping the Gima attacks at bay but against the run of play. Player of the Match, Abi P, pulling off at least three brave saves at the feet of the Real Gima forwards. Real Gima scored two quick goals in the closing stages of the first half; one, a corner that caught the wind and bounced in off the post, summing up Bromley’s luck on the day!
Real Gima started the second half brighter and capitalised while the BG Girls went in search of a goal adding another two in the first ten minutes.  To their credit, the Bromley Girls kept pushing forward, not giving up and working hard.   Despite a missed penalty and great Gima defending they finally got a consolation after twenty minutes through an Aileen W strike.
Despite conceding six goals the girls kept their heads up and carried on playing through to the end.
Well done Girls!
Team Line-Up Abi P, Shannon D, Keely F, Jodie F, Ciena C, Abbey D, Izzy R, Tia B, Lucy S, Aileen W, Lucy S,.
Final Score:  Real Gima 6 – 1 Bromley Green

Bromley Green Girls v Anchorian Angels
Report by Alan Paggett
Bromley Green Girls, sponsored by McDonalds, secured an opening day win with an assured performance against Anchorian Angels. This game had the potential to be difficult for the newly formed BG Girls, though in reality it ended up with Bromley Green being the most likely to make a big score.
The Green Girls fielded a very strong team starting with an attacking formation as well as a strong defence. The defensive trio of Shazza, Jodie & Keely started the match to make a formidable defence with Ciena in the anchor role in front bossing the midfield.
BG Girls made some good early progress and immediately started to pass the ball around. It didn’t take very long for the Girls to open the score with the ball being played out by Izzy in midfield to Abbey D on the left who played it down the line, smartly turned her marker and slipped it passed the keeper.
This goal was a signal for Bromley Green Girls to settle down and go hunting for more! Abbey D added another, Izzy with a great solo run and shot plus a cracking twenty yard drive from Ciena, the pick of the bunch.  Another two goals and at least six shots on target – all being saved by the Anchorians keeper, with many others going just wide.  One effort resulting in Keely F taking the full force of Izzy’s close range shot before being substituted on half-time
Anchorians did have their moments too with their forwards linking up very well, forcing a number of corners on BG Girls’ right side. The Green defence held firm and keeper Abi P was rarely troubled and the girls led six – nil at half-time.
Once again, Bromley Green came out quickest and immediately put pressure on the Anchorians defence, with Izzy, Tia & Abbey in midfield taking control of the game and passing the ball around setting up plenty of chances. The second half saw wave after wave of Bromley Green pressure and attacks and the Anchorians were virtually penned in their own half.
Of course, Anchorians hadn’t given up, despite being 8 goals down and having few decent chances in the first half, they did manage to score. With their player running through on goal, and despite a brave save from Abi, they scored from the resulting rebound.
Bromley Green kept pressing forward; Aileen adding to her first half strike, Ciena turning in a corner from Izzy and Abbey D adding a couple more. Anchorians did play their part in this game, even with BG Girls’ dominance and if they continue to improve will finish in a good league position this season.
All the Bromley Green Girls can be very pleased with their contribution in this game and should take this form into their next tough test against Real Gima.
Team Line-Up Abi P, Shannon D, Keely F, Jodie F, Ciena C, Abbey D, Izzy R, Tia B, Lucy S, Aileen W, Lucy S, Jazmin W.
Final Score:  Bromley Green 11 – 1 Anchorian Angels
Scorers: Abbey D (4), Ciena C (3), Aileen W (2), Izzy R (2)
Player of the match: Cienna Carpenter

Well caught Abi!

Well caught Abi!

A strong Bromley Girls U13 team warmed up for the new season with a fantastic win against Woodcombe Girls this morning (Sunday) at Waterside. After a slow start the girls started to dominate getting their passing game going and creating more and more opportunities. Strikes midway through the opening half from Abbey D & a flowing team effort finished off by Aileen W settled the nerves for the newly formed team. And after another three goals the team took a comfortable lead into the break.
The second half continued in much the same way with Ciena C, Izzy R, Abbey & Aileen adding to the score and the defence working hard to keep a clean sheet. A final minute strike from Lucy S wrapped up the goal scoring for an encouraging first win for the Girls in preparation for next weekend’s KGLFL opening round of matches.

We’re lovin’ it … McDonalds to sponsor Bromley Green Girls!

By Dave Homewood [12 August 2013]

McDonalds archesOne of the world’s most famous brand names has signed a deal to sponsor Bromley Green Girls as we all look forward to the 2013-2014 season in the Kent Girls & Ladies League U13 Division. Wearing the famous McDonalds arches adds to our profile and the girls have everything in place now to build for the future.

The agreement, which means the company will be sponsoring a total of five Green youth sides next term, comes as a result of a highly successful first year of partnership.

In addition to a new kit, there will be a Player of the Match awards ceremony after each game [home or away, all of our teams meet and finish at the clubhouse as part of our family orientation and ‘one-club’ policy].

There will be an opportunity to act as ball girls and mascots, wearing your McDonalds kit and leading the senior side out at one of our home games at the Homelands Stadium.

The boys Under 13s have already enjoyed this experience … it may also be possible to organise one of your league or cup games up there; but I will talk with Phil and Alan about that.

Vouchers for free meals will also be presented to each Player of the Match and there are special birthday deals [usually buy one get one free, including adults] … let me know in advance when you want McDonalds to stage your birthday party and I will set the ball rolling.

Always take lots of pictures of the players and parents enjoying themselves and please send them to my home email address which is dhomewood@yahoo.com

They love pictures by the way! In the Europa and Orbital restaurants you will see BG shirts and screens with images … it could soon be you being viewed by all of their customers!

McDonalds are also sponsoring your Player of the Season award, which is a fantastic trophy and will be presented at the Awards Night next June.

When the kit arrives, we will have a get-together in the McDonalds conference suite at their High Street restaurant for a photo shoot and short power-point briefing and something to eat before you and your managers/coaches set about really showing Kent that we are the best!

See you all on the 19th for registrations.

These are the teams that will be in our U13 Division in the coming season: Ashfordians Angels, Bromley Green, Ebbsfleet United, Long Lane, Meridian, Red Gima, Ridgewaye, Thanet Colts Green, Thanet Colts Yellow, Woodcombe Youth.

Thanks to all those who attended the ‘Meet and Greet’ on Monday 15 July 2013 after training. The good news is that we were elected into the league at U13 level the same evening and can now prepare for the big kick off on 8 September. You girls are going down in history as the first-ever female Green side to play competitive football and you will be expected to wear the famous shirt with pride … after meeting most of you briefly over the past two weeks, I know you will! Most importantly, work hard, play hard, have fun and the results will come. So, down to business now but welcome once more and I know that, like myself, your coaches and managers can’t wait for next season!

Here are a few more photos from our much-loved Paul Carter who gives up his time [free of charge] to be our official photographer.
