So, let’s mention it now and include a photo, in the hope that I will be forgiven. DH
Ryan hits 5 as Bromley Green end with a league win / Hamstreet edge sporting game with Bromley Green Colts
A resounding win over bottom side Wye Juniors completed the Ashford & District Youth Football League programme for the club this season. Credit to Wye who approached the match in the right spirit and gamely fought throughout with a player short.
Hamstreet have some useful players and deserved their win in a splendid friendly against the Colts.
Two excellent matches watched by an enthusiastic crowd.
Two home games this Saturday for our Under 10s
Two home games this Saturday (10 March) with the Green lads having their final league game of the season against Wye Juniors (kick off 10am) and the Green Colts welcoming Hamstreet for a friendly (kick off 11.15am). Latest times to report are 9am and 10.15am respectively.
Please feel free to attend the Youth Project Meeting on Monday at 6.30pm when we will outline our plans for the coming season
Colts complete double but perhaps a draw would have been fair
Marvellous entertainment at Waterside on Saturday morning saw the Colts hold on to win 4-3 after another exciting encounter between our two Under 10 sides. Well played to everyone!
A 1-0 loss for the Colts at Mersham and a 3-2 defeat at home to Pilgrims only tells half the story as both teams deserve praise for performances that demonstrated just how far the players have come in the past few months. A few images below … and there will be more on Under 10s Photos 2011-12 .
Will all managers, officials, players and supporters please not to use the Swan Centre Car Park this weekend. This means we will all have to use the churned up car park so please drive slowly so as not to make the situation even worse. The Executive is doing its utmost to get the car parking and other issues resolved with our friends at the Borough Council. Many thanks.
The club wishes a happy birthday to Ryan Harris who is 10 today (Saturday).
Ryan has been amongst the goals in his first season at the club playing for the Green Under 10s.
Well done to the 23 lads that attended training on Thursday. Brilliant attitude and you all worked exceptionally hard. Jayden [left] gives it the thumbs-up. This coming Saturday, we have cup games which are Green at home to Pilgrims and Colts away to Mersham. Green to meet at home by 9.30am please and the Colts to meet at Waterside 10am at the latest to travel to Mersham for an 11am kick off. Below are three images from Thursday’s training … more photos to follow on the Home page and U10 photos 2011-2012.

One of the ideas was to have an U10s area on the Notice Board and Natasha Carter has sent the following message for parents and children:
Reminder: Waterside Youth Project meeting is on Monday 16 January at 6.30pm. Parents are always welcome.
Good luck to both sides tomorrow as the Green meet the Green!

Over £200 raised for charity
Well done to everyone involved in the Christmas Charity game which raised £223 for our chosen local charity. More pictures on the Home Page and on Bonus Photos [you will need to scroll down on the tab until you come to ‘2011 Charity games 27 Dec and 30 May’].
From the Honorary Patron Dave Homewood: To all Under 10s, parents, families and friends on Christmas Eve
Firstly, a huge thank you to all the parents who have become a big part of the Bromley Green FC family. Yes, it is a family, I have been here for over 46 years for starters! Some of the ‘old boys’ that appear at the ground to watch played for us 50, even 60 years ago so we must have done something right!
And my point? Quite simply that you are at the best club for many miles around. That brings with it responsibilities for behaviour, instilling a sense of your own empowerment for self-development, and to understand that the core ethos at Bromley Green FC is loyalty. When I was a kid [yes, many years ago!] my manager impressed upon me to face the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune and that friends and lovers come and go – but a caring club is for ever. How right he was! Several businesses and careers, my own great kids, a divorce, five grandchildren later and what is still always there for me? Yes, my, our, football club. It is about looking out for each other and hence the motto on the Clubman of the Year Shield: “Friendship in distress is the essence of virtue”. Maybe in time one of you will win the coveted award which is named after the first Patron [Mr Bill Mickelborough].
I am very proud of the massive steps you have all made in such a short space of time and it is my dream that one day some of you will be wearing the famous Green shirt as a senior.
For now, just enjoy your time at Bromley Green. I will see most of you on the 27th. If not, training starts on 5 January at 5pm. Keep up the good work lads!
My personal thanks for all their work go to my dear friends Ian Mace and Matt Coniam, who are passionate about Bromley Green FC; and I know how desperate they are for the boys to do well.
May I wish you all peace at Christmas and fulfilment in 2012.
Dave Homewood [Honorary Patron]

Local parents: you are cordially invited to the Waterside Youth Sports Project meeting on Monday in the clubhouse at 6.30pm. There will be tea and coffee provided plus some sandwiches etc. Do come along if you can as it is your and your children’s club. Thanks Dave

Duncan and Claire would like to thank Liza, Rae & Martin, Tasha & Kev, Tasha & Darren, Jamie, Sarah & Shane and of course Hana for all their help and contributions to the Halloween party! Also all the parents and children for coming along and joining in and the Club and senior members for supporting this event. With a kind added donation from Duncan’s parents the party raised £100 for the club!!
Message from The Patron: my sincere thanks for all the hard work Claire, Hana, Liza and I am sure many others put into making the Halloween Party a great success. I can only apologise again for not being there but personal circumstances ruined my plans for Sunday. Rae has sent me some great photos and I will upload them as soon as possible. I have also sent photos to our local councillor, Ashford Borough Council, and the Children’s Centre so they can see the good work you are all doing on behalf of the young people in the local community. Thanks again. DH
Training Saturday [22nd] please meet at the usual time of 9am. Training will be on both Tuesday and Thursday every week now [5-6pm on the MUGA] until the Christmas Party on 20 December. It might be advisable for the lads to wear some old bottoms on the artificial surface to minimize risk of grazing.
This Saturday, the Green side are away to Wye Juniors at Imperial College Pitch 2 (11.30am ko) while the Colts are at home in a friendly against Headcorn (kick off 10am, so please meet normal time of 9am). Welcome to Rhys who joined us on Thursday.
Matt will be collecting in tracksuits tops to have initials [maybe names … have to speak to Matt] and sponsors emblem printed on them. As a result of Shane gaining excellent sponsorship support from Sauflon Pharmaceuticals, we will be offering the next 4 matches free of charge (=£20). In effect you will then have received the top free. We have to draw a line somewhere and only registered players for the Green and Colts squads are entitled to the reimbursement and free printing offer.
Training on the MUGA under lights starts on Tuesday 25 October and we will have sessions from 5-6pm every Tuesday and Thursday up to and including 15 December. This will remain free to all children that wish to be a part of our plans both now and in the future as the club is footing the bill to Ashford Borough Council. Our U10s Christmas Party will be Tuesday 20 December … full details nearer the time.
Latest: well done to both our teams last Saturday against South Ashford and Mersham respectively … magnificent effort by all of you. Lots of photos are on the U10s/Photos 2011-2012 tab.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Connor and what better present than our great victory at Waterside!
More fantastic photos to follow … keep checking the U10s Photos tab!

NO TRAINING THIS WEEK ON EITHER TUESDAY OR THURSDAY … NEXT SATURDAY [8th] IS CONNOR’S BIRTHDAY PARTY AFTER THE GAMES …
Message from The Patron
I want to thank all parents and friends of the club who contributed to a splendid day on Saturday [1.10.2011] … I will not name everyone but please be assured that your efforts are appreciated. Also, I was very proud of all our players who observed a minutes silence before the games in memory of a departed ‘old boy’. Well done to you all. DH
Anyway, have a good one and well done on your goalscoring record
Thanks to Duncan and Shane who supported Trent at the SWAN Community Group meeting on Monday night. We made a good impression, with many locals very appreciative of all the work we are doing for local children … well done!
This coming Saturday (1 October 2011) both of our Under 10 sides are at home with the Green meeting Smeeth & Brabourne and the Green Colts welcoming Pilgrims. Players to meet at the usual time of 9am with the first kick off at 10am.
Images from ‘Green v Green’ on Saturday 24 September 2011
We continue to welcome new recruits to the youth section, although some are a little too young or a bit too old to register for the U10s in the league. Latest lad to join us is Harley. Everyone is welcome as we are gradually assembling enough players to have more age groups next season such as Under 7/Under 11/Under 12/Under 15 or 16.
To all those who do not currently fit into the two-year age bracket for our U10s, please be patient, enjoy the coaching sessions, join in our fun events and as soon as possible we will look at establishing further age groups.
Lots more photos can be seen by holding on the Under 10s tab and scrolling to Under 10s Photos
Saturday’s fixtures see the Bromley Green Colts at home to Wye (10am kick off) and the Bromley Green side away to Mersham (11am kick off). As usual, all players please meet at our ground at 9am.
Hannah will be going round with the club’s ‘Collection Box’ at both junior and senior home games. This is not designed to coax more money out of parents and supporters but any loose change that you are able to donate will be appreciated … it all adds up and helps us to provide football for all ages.
Kirsty Lopez is asking for parents to share transportation of the children on training and match days. Please see Kirsty at the ground to make arrangements or liaise through the Welfare Officer Terry Perk.
Thanks to all those who attended the above meeting … lots of good ideas came out of the meeting and we will be enlisting further support soon from parents and friends of the club. Thanks to Martyn for staffing the bar and Hannah for dunking the hot dog rolls.
Terrific effort by everyone on Saturday and as we keep saying, don’t worry about the scores at the moment. We are just starting out and our time will come. We welcome our new signing Jakub to the club. For more photos, please click on the Under 10s photos tab.
For the first time in 23 years, we now have Under 10 sides. Remember boys, Bromley Green FC is 81 years old, it is YOUR club so have fun and importantly please always wear the famous Green shirt with pride and passion.
Two good games today, well done, with goals by Ryan and Owen.
Thanks to Adele for this photo of the Colts player of the match Jack
Our photo shows a very proud Jack receiving his award from sponsor Phil Wedge. Allison Wedge has kindly offered to sponsor the Green player of the match trophy.
GOOD LUCK FROM EVERYBODY AT OUR CLUB TO BOTH UNDER 10 SIDES ON SATURDAY … PLAY WITH A SMILE AND JUST ENJOY YOUR FOOTBALL … SEE YOU ALL BACK AT THE GROUND AFTERWARDS PLEASE FOR THE PRESENTATIONS. THANKS DAVE
TRAINING TUESDAY 13th AND THURSDAY 15th THIS WEEK AT 5PM
Thanks to our sp0nsor Steve Bennett of USR … next week will feature our own Jamie Allan and his shop CHEAPJACKS. Please do promote our sponsors whenever you can as remember they have put their hands in the pockets to make this such an exciting and professional start to the season.
Saturday the Green are at home to Pilgrims (10am) and away to South Ashford (11am). Good luck boys and remember we just want you to enjoy yourselves. After each game the plan is for everybody to meet back at the ground and have a quick presentation to the ‘Player of the Match’ for each team. We have two small trophies and my thanks to Timpsons for their efficient engraving service. Phil Wedge has offered to sponsor one of the awards and, as we are only talking about £20, I would like another friend of the club to come forward please with a score. ‘Every little helps’ … but I am working on Tescos next! DH
Please note: the Butlins trip cannot go ahead as uptake was too low … mainly due to a school trip that clashed and the very short notice we were able to give … some have expressed an interest in going at a later date, so I will look into that and get back to you.
Please note the annual subscription should now be paid as soon as possible. It is £25 once a year which covers insurance, league fees, training, membership, equipment, pitch hire etc. Match fees are £5 for each game which should be paid before each match … this helps to pay for the referee and laundry fees. Anyone having severe financial difficulties should speak in confidence with Dave Homewood as we practice inclusion policies and will do our best to ensure no child misses out for monetary reasons.
TRAINING ON THURSDAY 8 SEPTEMBER AT 5PM FOR ALL UNDER 10s … anyone unable to attend is asked to contact their manager as soon as possible please
Best wishes go to Zak who came off his bike and sustained nasty injuries on his way to the ground last Wednesday night … stitches were needed … he was of course very brave.
30 August 2011: Training tonight and Thursday starting at 5pm
Advance notice: parents and friends are invited to a meeting on Monday 12 September at the ground at 6.30pm. This is a chance for parents/supporters to hear what is going on at the club and for those who wish to volunteer for roles to come forward. Everyone welcome but on this occasion no children please.
For plenty of photos [and parents/friends do ping me yours please] click on the link kindly provided by Matt Coniam
Thanks to all the players and parents who supported the party this morning … also great to see Steve Bennett of USR who sponsored the kits. Also a mention for my good friend Jamie Allan who has helped us with the finances to get the project off the ground. We have a great bunch of lads and whilst I hope we go on to build winning teams, the main thing is that they enjoy their football.
Thanks to ASDA for providing the food.
See you all Tuesday at training
We now have our opening league fixtures and we begin at home to Pilgrims while the Bromley Green Colts are away to South Ashford We have two sides, so one will be called Bromley Green and the other Bromley Green Colts just so we can distinguish between the two. To see the teams in our league and all the fixtures, please click on the link below
The party invite is here
[Shane has provided some hard copies but please feel free to print your own or return it to me electronically]. I need to know the final numbers for catering reasons by our training on Saturday 20 August please.
The new kits have arrived and thanks go to our sponsor USR
Parents are asked to make sure the club [either through Ian Mace or Dave Homewood] is informed of any holiday dates, or sessions that the children are going to be absent from, to help with planning. We do have a duty of care and it is worrying when lads are away without our knowledge. Thanks and please remember to keep the morning of 27 August free as you will shortly receive an invite to the party to launch our youth teams.
Great news! New manager appointed for a second side in the league
Former player/manager Matt Coniam has accepted an invitation to become manager of a second Under 10 side and, together with his wife Adele, to work with Under 10s boss Ian Mace. This is great news as we can now hopefully keep most of the boys happy with plenty of football.
So, we have new sponsored kits for both teams [they have arrived already] and my thanks to Steve Bennett. We also have financial backing from Jamie Allan and, when he returns from his latest holiday, we will be looking at what the lads still need before the season gets under way in September. A special mention for all our sponsors will be featured shortly but we still need loads more of course as the bills keep pouring in!
Please scroll down for the latest news and photos …
Waterside Youth Centre Official Opening
Well done to Aaron, Thomas, Ship and our senior coaches Tony Gawler and Tom Head for their splendid work on Saturday. Also, a number of parents are now ‘getting involved’ and Liza, Shane, Martyn and Kev are just four that have been most helpful in recent weeks. I can’t finish this little piece without also thanking the boys themselves. Their behaviour – with so many ‘eyes’ on them – was a credit to our club. DH
So everyone had a good time at Sonny’s birthday match and activities on Saturday and thanks to Martin for providing the boys with footballs. Rae has pinged me some photos and you can see them by clicking on the Under 10s tab, hovering the pointer and clicking on 2011-12 photos. DH
Please send any pictures of tournaments/parties etc to Dave Homewood at email@example.com
NO TRAINING ON TUESDAY (12 JULY) AS IAN IS ON LATE SHIFT
NEXT TRAINING IS SATURDAY (16 JULY) AT 9am

The new Under 10s have their first taste of competitive football
Update by team manager Ian Mace
This Saturday, 4th June, sees the first competitive action since training began 4 weeks ago for our Bromley Green Under 10s team and we are at Westlands School in Sittingbourne. The format is six-a-side so we can only take 8 players this time round out of 11 to choose from. Don’t be disheartened if you have not been chosen this time as you will get your chance the following weekend at Deal. I am pleased with the way training has been developing and this will be a good test for us but the main thing is that the boys enjoy playing football and have fun.
Squad: Zak Cowley, Sam Duke, Connor Maher, Sonny Wirt, Alex Allan, Owen Mabb, Jack Hollumby, John Kellam
Meet at Waterside (Bromley Green FC home ground) at12 midday sharp
First game is at 1.30 pm
Venue: Westlands School, Sittingbourne, Kent ME10 1PF
Don’t forget there is no training on Saturday 4th June due to the tournament. There is training on Tuesday 7th so please be ready to start at 5pm. On Wednesday 15 June, The Patron (Dave Homewood) and your U10 Manager (Ian Mace) will be attending a meeting at which we hope to be elected into the Ashford & District Youth League ready for next season. We will publish the news on here as soon as we know.
All your news, photos and fixtures will be on this page in future. Soon we will take part in some tournaments – be patient as not everybody can play in every tournament – so just enjoy it when you have your chance.
Above: a good turn out for the coaching session on 21 May 2011
