Thanks from The Patron!
Having endured a somewhat difficult few months, we are moving forward now and in a few weeks our fantastic players will have a stunning new-style, state-of-the-art kit provided by McDonalds. Those that are loyal to this old club when the proverbial hits the fan always gain their reward in the long run – I should know after having been a ‘Green Boy’ for half a century!
It was heartening to hear, when the boys were recently being enticed into defecting to other pastures, Callum affirm “I like it here and I am not going anywhere”. Good man! When the squad starts winning things, and it will, success will mean so much more because it is your club, our club, and something we have all worked towards together. I have no time for club-hoppers who always think the grass is greener elsewhere. Also, it is great to have two recent signings on board in Freddie and Paddy who have fitted in perfectly with our regulars.
It can sometimes be too easy to take for granted the great strides the players have made and the expertise of Sean, Sam, Jimbo and Levii has much to do with that; four footballing friends that give up their time willingly for the right reasons and I sincerely thank them. It is clear the boys love them all to bits and I am delighted that Sam has committed himself to taking a leading role with the boys in the future; thereby ensuring even more stability [I hope he does not mind me spilling the beans … but what a boost for the lads!] It is not simply about football; equally important is having role models the children can relate to as they develop as people as well as players. Once all the holidays are over, I look forward to a full complement of players at training at each session.
Finally, as the new season beckons, my thanks to Jane for putting up with all the stress she has organising things and Barrie, who of course has a wealth of footballing knowledge, for stepping in to supervise on match days. The help of Brian, John and the other parents is invaluable … please keep up the good work!
Off to Margate then and enjoy … win, draw or lose there will be unhealthy food and a warm welcome back at the clubhouse!
Players please meet in the clubhouse at 7am – sorry but we have to register at 8.30am! Parking is free at Palm Bay Primary School, Cliftonville, Margate, Kent CT9 3PP. Organiser Nicola Shannon 07801295062

Yes, we have confirmation that Santa Claus will be at our Children’s Christmas Party on Saturday 21 December from 2.30pm bringing gifts for everyone. He will be meeting the Little Ones [3-7 year olds] between 2.30-4.30pm and the U9s and U10s from 5-7pm. The fun and games, food and disco will take part in the Waterside Childrens Centre hall by kind permission of our friends the Salvation Army. As a bonus, our very own famous Mark ‘Spud’ Smith will be coming along to help with his games and balloons etc. Tickets are on sale now at just £5 per child fully inclusive and because of fire limits please note NO TICKET = NO ENTRY. Adults do not pay as this is a day for the children but the clubhouse will be open all day for teas, Christmas drinks etc. Remember under no circumstances should alcohol be taken outside of the clubhouse.
The Patron reflects on Saturday’s ADYFL Cup event and an ad hoc visit to Homelands … here is a short slideshow
Firstly, I wish to say how well behaved all the players were during the whole day … they are a noisy bunch but were indeed a credit to our club. Because of making arrangements at the last minute [with the inclement weather, we were ready for a postponement], some of the lads were unable to come to Homelands as mascots/ball boys and that is understandable; but there will hopefully be another opportunity.
Secondly, as far as the Cup matches in the morning are concerned, even with the limited time I have had to watch the squad it is clear to me that confidence is building quickly and that is absolutely key to progression. So well done to our coaches and parents for their marvellous support and encouragement.
Thirdly, I may have a sponsor lined-up and will be having talks on Monday night … so fingers crossed! I will keep everyone informed. If any of you out there know of firms or individuals who may be interested in ‘getting involved’, whether it be in kind or cash, please let me know.
Fourthly, we do hold a number of social events and you are always welcome to join in. If any parents are willing to start organising a Christmas Party for the U9s/U10s please speak to me … I will support it but am seriously running out of hours in the day!
Alteration to youth training arrangements
[from 28 October when clocks altered] … please confirm with your team manager(s) the exact days/times of training now the clocks have altered … thank you
Weekly fee remains at £2 per person
Match date: 21 September 2013
ADYFL Under 9 Division
Report by Jamie Hurst
Bromley Green U9s looked really positive going into this game against Biddenden Juniors with new signings Igor B and Oliver Turrell who has really impressed at training. Also with a brilliant performance the week before away at Park Farm we finally started to look settled and like a team. Unfortunately today just wasn’t our day with our main striker Callum Waters carrying a heavy injury I was forced to take him off just 3 minutes into the game; but full credit to the boys they still kept their shape but had no outlet to hold the ball up so it was just being put right back at our box. No credit is to be taken away from the visitors as they dominated the game with some really nice neat football. We have a free weekend this week but then we travel away to Grasshoppers which will be tough but we must be prepared.
U9s and U10s … you will all be training together on Thursday [12 September 2013] with Connor Robbins, Connor Gower and Matt Jarvis. Usual time of 6-7pm.
Friendly on Thursday 5 September 2013 against South Ashford. Players please meet 5.30pm sharp for a 6pm kick off.
Training on Tuesdays and Thursdays is with Jamie and Matt
